The Vessel & The Void

I keep feeling compelled to write little musical meditations and self-reflections. Is this song wholly representative how I feel today? Not really - I'm just digging into past bits and bobs that stuck out to me. I've made it a long way since January 2023, and writing has helped inform and document that progress. So, from time to time, I may post that writing here for the Internet to pry into.

Authentic voice, Carson. You wrote a really good song, and you're the voice to sing it. As I listened, a song in the movie 'Jeramia Johnson' came to mind. This song comes in and out of various scenes through the movie, it seems. Perhaps the singer performs several songs, but his voice, like yours, has its very own signature. I grew up in two gas stations dad owned, one after another. The radio was always on (days of AM radio) and the stations were frequently changed depending on who was listening. At fourteen, I bought my first eight-track tape - Bob Dylan's Greatest hits Vol I. I was hooked and every album Dylan put out, I've owned it. Others, 60's - 70's mellow kind of stuff like Joni, Prine, Buffett, GFR, Spirit, and many more, but the country, easy listening songs on the radio (Roger Miller, Cash, Haggard, Willie, Aretha, etc.), too. Alison Kraus and Robert Plant discovered pure gold together and your voice is of that caliber. Keep at it, you will be found!

Carson is an exquisite poet. The Vessel & The Void (lyrics) I've learned to carry my guilt like a newborn child, So immaculately built of my own blood and vile. Safe from smothering, for if I killed it, what would that make me? I've tried to swallow the sea to quench my thirst, Fill the emptiness in me, but it made things worse. I am the vessel, and I am the void. Don't get lost in me (X4) by Carson McKee

Yes, good questions for Carson. He seems pretty philosophical and he sure put us in a zen mood today. I love how he plays the Harmony guitar. Hey @mikem668, is it the flag that moves or is it the wind that moves?

@@MaryAnnBeaven I like your koan, better that mine. It reminds my of Blowin in the Wind. It took years for me to realize Dylan's double meaning. Growing up I thought he only meant a favorable wind was blowing. Now I think he also meant something like who knows? The word translated as vanity in Ecclesiastes, where Turn, Turn, Turn comes, also means wind. The Vessel and the Void also picks up on the Buddhist idea of emptiness. And warnings. When pointing at the sky, mistake your finger for the moon. Or the moon's reflection for the moon itself. Which isn't trivial if the distinction itself is an illusion. Thou art that. And where does the self come from? Old and deep ideas. Knowing yourself isn't easy. I hope Carson knows we aren't poking fun, but enjoying his thoughts on the mysteries of life

bravo, carson. your song remind me of the mark strand poem keeping things whole Keeping Things Whole BY MARK STRAND In a field I am the absence of field. This is always the case. Wherever I am I am what is missing. When I walk I part the air and always the air moves in to fill the spaces where my body’s been. We all have reasons for moving. I move to keep things whole.
