The Cuckoo
I love arranging traditional tunes because there are SO many versions to pull inspiration from. It can be like a step beyond simply covering a song - I have a decent degree of control over how I want the story to unfold. Pick a verse here, omit a verse there. I even ended up adding some lyrics of my own this time around...

Is there a song out there anywhere that you can’t turn into absolute magic? Doesn’t appear so. Well done Carson!
Carson- don’t ever stop man. Everything you touch turns to musical gold. ❤️
Far out!
Great song and what a set of pipes, WOW!
No murders, but a rambler and a gambler and sweet-talkin’ lady’s man. Oops, wrong song.
I’m sure Ramblin Jack is enjoying this version as much as I am.
Love your country songs. Well done and no one died!
The sound quality of your recordings is fantastic!
Nice! I first heard this song on Rory Gallagher's version!
Excellent, as always! Thanks, Carson!
Classic, for sure. Think Dylan recorded this in early 60's. Well done, Carson, troubador extrodinair.
Do the rest of the Cold Mountain soundtrack any time you feel like it 👏
“Murder… I don’t know… I’ll have to investigate that.” 😂
Oh, I wasn't familiar with this song. Love it! Love the guitar-ing.
I love it Carson everything that you have done is always excellent, but I think that you have stepped up to a greater level of skill, bravo sir!
Carson, I know you probably don't even see all the comments but man, this was just honey to the ears. The guitar playing, especially the little hammers, and even the song brought back memories of early Joan Baez and the kind of songs she chose. I really enjoyed this. Thank you......and more please.
You’re in fine voice Carson! When are you coming to England?😊
This sounds great. I love your interpretation of this traditional material. Well done.
Outstanding
I think your voice is very well suited to this style of song and the drop-D tuning adds just that little extra bit of lovely resonance complimenting your vocal. Well done!
Check back from time to time 🤪😱😂. Progressing rather nicely. I can still remember “blowin in the wind” days🤪😱😂. The guitar playing in this performance was excellent. Keep em coming, son…
This young man is super talented period!
love this guy's voice
Well done 👏 ✔️ Any plans to get on the road?
That was great!
Love it. ❤️❤️
That was flawless. ❤
Awesome !
Carson, you are ten or twenty-dollar bill YOUNGER than me! But, YOU are a huge influence on my own music since I discovered you! (I just audaciously cover/murdered "Time In A Bottle" by Croce! I might NEVER had the audacity without YOU being the impudent person of influence.) (OMG! YOU ARE ALWAYS AWESOME!) ...real-life reaction when I hear you sing and play (Oh, how I wish I was as good!)
Just great!
Fantastic Carson. Stellar.
Hello Carson that was fukin brilliant what a great voice thank you best wishes Kinnon.
I love this song. I think this is one of your best covers.
terrific tones, vocal, instrumental, a resounding interpretation of that song!...well done poster!
Love to hear Carson sing “Me and My Uncle”- Dino Valenti ( Quick Silver Messenger Service ) wrote it and played it on a 12 string.

No big deal, but “Me and My Uncle” was composed by John Phillips (pre-Mamas and Papas)
Carson, Carson, Carson you blow me away every time. That voice is just amazing. Great video
Oh man you do that song good! I love that tune man. You have a great way of doing it and you play it well too.
Amazing as always
🔥oh yeah 😇
Love your version!
Very nice, Carson! Are you ever gonna be playing down here in NC any time soon? Would love to catch a show.
Would love to see you do a collab with the Brothers Comatose band.
Love this song and your arrangement of it.
Good stuff, Thanks for sharing.
OMG, you are a great discovery for me !
Excellent!
Bravo !
Way cool! Cheers.
Lovely! 😍
Outstanding!
Freak'n great!
Great job, enjoyed that!
Love to hear stuff from the Anthology! And you nailed it beautifully. I hear a hint of Harvey Reid in your pickin'.
Well done! 👏
This is real music
Sounding great!
Muito bom
Well done 👍
Fabulous Carson!
I’ve been obsessed with this song for a couple of weeks and have been watching all your videos. This is a sweet surprise! Love this. I’m going to see if my ukulele band will practice and play it. ❤
Fantastic! I can actually feel the song because of the way you sing it.
Good job!
Carson!! Nice. Cheers\=/\=/
I've only heard Billy's version before this...I'd be interested to know which lyrics are yours. Nice Job Carson.
Love it! Thx, youtube for the recommendation!
I’ve never heard this…. but I love it!
Nice.
Absolutely amazing
Superb! Love your interpretation, Carson!
Reminds me of early Dylan.
Outstanding arrangement and performance! Sure would love to see Carson do a lesson on how to play it. I can't figure out what key he is in with the unusual fingerings he is using.
Well done Carson, very good.
👍👍❤️👏👏👏 Thank You!!!
Great music and singing Carson.
Excellent
Please come back to Milwaukee ❤
👏👏
This was so beautiful Carson. I never heard it before. Also, I am the 445th like, that 444 keeps following me everywhere I go and do not know why lol Julie
Great guitar work 😊
Great sound!
Merci ❤
hey! love your music, do you & Josh still tour around? Loved your guys' London concert video and would love to see you guys live
Excellent. Where did you find the alternative lyrics?
🔥🔥🔥
Is scowling like that the secret to singing so well?
👏👏👏👏👏
Lovin' it Carson! Definitely has a "harbinger"-vibe. DADGAD tuning right?

Thank you!! It’s actually double drop-D, so, DADGBD.
Excellent! Would you mind sharing the equipment info (guitar, mic, etc.). Also just curious if you have a favored pick (brand, shape, material, gauge)?

Yes!! I usually put most of that in the video description but apparently forgot this time around 🤦🏻♂️, so I’ll edit that but also post here: Guitar: 2013 Martin 000-17SM Vocal mic: Warm Audio WA-47 Guitar mic: Warm Audio WA-14 Room mic: Audio-Technica AT813a As for the pick, I almost always use a Dunlop 207. It’s a rounded triangle shape, plastic, 2mm. A hefty boy, but it fattens up my overall tone and has a kind of “creamy” pick sound (all picks make a percussive noise when they hit guitar strings…some more than others, some harsher than others).
Super nice sounding chords. Drop D, double drop D?
Hey Carson, any chance you can do a little technical video on how you record and mix your acoustic songs? You always get such a great sound. You must get a lot of spill into those mics, how do you deal with it?
Hi Carson! Wonderful! Is that a Martin 000 15SM?
:)
Are you ever coming home to NC?
My wife's boyfriend is a cuckoo
Whats that martin you are playing?
Is this mic standard on this guitar ?

If you are referring to the pickup in the sound hole it's an add-on.
