Me too, since I know them in the late ninetees with that Urban Hymns. Then I discovered Verve and all their records and... Wow!. I tried to tell everyone about them but people are stupid. They only want to hear what others do (basically oasis-blur in that time). But you know... Time puts everyone in their right position and nowadays everyone knows "the verve" (or pretend it) and knows that they were special. Great to hear it now because we (as proper fans) were right since the beginning or at least since they were active in last ninetees.

This period of the Verve is simply one of the best guitar bands ever. McCabe, the real genius of the band, on absolute fire

@bibsma3401 I'm sorry but have you heard of nick McCabe and the rest lately? They're a sound effect that richard out of respect stopped using after they parted ways. Everyone knows he wrote all the songs and yes, excellent musicians but that's where they stop.

Ashcroft resembling Jagger right there. The Verve before Northern Soul were compelling, abstract, bad, bonkers, beautiful, powerful, sensitive, fragile, intimate, widescreen, sexy. I was hooked. Oasis and cocaine were a terrible influence on mid to late 90's music.

I've seen this 28 years ago and started one more band... There are some of the greatest basslines ever. Now i'm nearly 50 🙄 I listened to bands like Slowdive, Telescopes and old grind core - Napalm Death, Dahmer, Hemdale... but i never forgot Verve.

One of the most underrated bands coming out of the shoegaze scene but making their own sound. Hum toured with them years ago, can you imagine how good that show had to be?
This has always been one of my favorite boots. I always loved it because of the three new songs and superb fidelity. I had no idea there was video until now. This is precious.

It’s not just that each member was fundamental, it’s that each member in balance was fundamental. The way that McCabe lays thick landscapes over some of the most awesome grooves, and Ashcroft somehow navigates all of that like a ballet dancer is what made the early period so compelling and amazing. Unfortunately, ego tipped that, and while it led to success/singles/all the rest, we lost what was an incredible band that mixed real rock soul with ambience like no other.
да крутые парни ,сейчас такое не сыщешь,просто взрыв мозга,свобода,стиль,мощь,,мотивация жить и наслаждаться оной.
Man called sun always with its lysergic effect on the crowd! What an intimate gig this was! We’re all here because we love verve but cmon… these guys made for such a mystifying revelatory experience. Most “britpop” bands didn’t delve to these depths, and with such ferocity and animalistic transcendence.

I'm an American.. Grew up with the clash.. buzzcocks.. anything Mick Jones or Joe Strummer.. In the early 90's yeah.. blur.. oasis. sure.. but why would I listen to those guys when I've got jane's addiction and smashing pumpkins.. and the fucking Verve man. This cat is compelling.. Absolutely beautiful arranging and vocals. I'm with you.. Why blur and oasis are put up as the voice of G. B. at that time when this sonic virtuoso was putting out music I have no idea. I saw Ashcroft on something a couple years ago.. The show had some heavy talents. I can't remember the line up.. But Ashcroft was not the main cat. He came out prior to the main act. I wish I could remember who they were but all I remember is Ashcroft came out with only an acoustic guitar.. Sat down on a chair and I swear I felt sorry for the headliner. He was fucking amazing. I had no idea he was such a good guitarist. After all these years his voice was absolutely perfect.. I literally felt bad for the headline band. Ashcroft just tore the roof off the place with just his voice and an acoustic. One of the all time most underrated cats for sure. All the hassles w the stones. This guy is a bad ass. Cheers from San Francisco.

Good to get stoned to. So a friend tells me.
it's ironic that the Verve got pigeonholed for Bittersweet Symphony as a 1-song wonder, when they deserve the same status as Radiohead (or actually even higher, imo) for the strength of their 90s catalogue. Thom Yorke shrugged off Creep in a way that Ashcroft was not able to do with his own huge commercial hit. Anyway i'd appreciate if you guys would take a quick listen to my Bittersweet Symphony acoustic cover here on YT... got to keep the bills paid. Peace out.
