The music stirs things inna my soul that come risin’ to the surface of my mind from a very mysterious and deeply emotional place; it is as if the world has changed and become a new reality. The old familiar reality has become a wondrous phenomenon, as if the things of everyday life have been painted on a huge curtain, that slowly and hardly noticable, starts to wrinkle in tiny waves; in movements not unlike those of the cars in the black and white scene of the clip. And any moment now, that curtain might fall away, uncovering other things hitherto unknown, not perceived, maybe announced by the radar of the soul, hinted at by inner senses. It creates an awesome, impressive silence in me, reducing me to a very little creature, and yes, maybe even awakening a renewed, dare I say it, innocence? Many pieces of music can evoke an emotional experience in me, but not like this. I can remember 2 similar experiences, one evoked by a painting from the lengthened hand of Rembrandt, and one by watching a film of Fellini. Experiences evoked by visual stimuli. In this case, the music adds an emotion that had been absent of the visuals: sadness does not capture it … Grief? Sorrow? Lament? But there is also excitement, excited sorrow? Like in my dreams as a young boy, of about twelve years old, in which I found myself all alone in the world that had come to a miraculous standstill; the anguish overpowered by the exhilaration of the prospect that I could now be the driver of the tramcars through the tramways all over the city, that I could walk into a greengrocer shop, for instance, and just take an apple whenever I felt like it. And I must say that the scene pictured in the clip, fits the mood of the song like a glove a hand, very well done! Thanks

It's always been one of my personal Velvets staples. And this crude live recording so nails it's emotive brilliance. Such a beautiful (not so) coincidence that a musical genius like Robert Quine had the intuition to capture lightning in a bottle. Talk about being at the right place at the right time! Magic.

Why do you categorize music such a boring way?(but still whats your criteria for something to be considered a 'classic'? To be age of at least 100 years?)

Looking for another chance for someone else to be Looking for another chance to ride into the sun Ride into the sun, ride into the sun Ride into the sun, ride into the sun Where everything seems so pretty When you're lonely and tired of the city Remember it's a flower made out of clay Oh, the city... Where everything seems so dirty When your sitting at home in self-pity Remember you're just one more person who's living there It's hard to live in the city It's hard to live in the city, oh - oh - oh It's hard to live in the city, oh - wow - wow It's hard to live in the city

@@djpants Thanks for your words...there are days that a simple comment from an unknow person can makes you smile at least. Today is a rainy day, and i don't want to be where i'm at now. Sometimes, i don't want to be in this world either, but that's not the sense of my comment at this moment, i meant especifically at the place (the city) i'm at this moment. Anyway thank you for your comment and for worrying about. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Various versions of "The Ocean" are kind of like this song in terms of distortion+melody+mainly instrumental... also The Quine Tapes as an album is pretty great for jammy distorted + catchy and beautiful impressionistic stuff.

@djpants on searching, I think they are online. They came originally from a 1970's Italian bootleg 7", but I think the first is on the expanded Loaded. I've recorded mine, but it's so amateurish I'm not sure about uploading it. There's a great alternative Beginning to See the Light on the b-side, but that's probably on the 3rd album box set.

This was recorded in late 1969 when Lou Reed was certainly in the band. He didn’t sing on this song but it’s still the Velvet Underground
