The Value of Emotional Truth

Ойын-сауық

A video essay on the value of emotional truth, and how emotions can be just as much a source of truth as logic and rationality. I consider the writing of John Ralston Saul, Voltaire's Bastards, Iris Murdoch, and responses to Trump and the 'post-truth' world.
In this essay I breakdown the ways emotional truth can unveil different ideas and perspectives that are missing from our dominant educational theories of logic and rationality.

Thank god! Someone that understands that there are shortcomings to logic, and by extension science. My thinking is that because of our increasingly digitized lives we are moving away or less in touch with our emotions and those of others, and going towards the belief that logic and science have all the answers. Well unfortunately there is no room for love in logic. Logic being cold and detached fits well into the big data world we are currently living in presently. These days a boss will rather look at an employee's performance stats than sit with him/her and ask them... "How's it going?" I don't want to sound all doom and gloom but this is going to get worse before it gets any better. I've made it a point to slowdown my life. Not take on so much at work. Not be running around doing errands or going to happy hours schooze-fests. This way when I run into someone I have the time to stop and say hello, and if they have the time maybe strike up a conversation, and really ask them how they're doing. But I'm swimming against the current here and often times when I say this to people they node in agreement all while staring at me like they would from behind the glass as the nut job in rubber room. Great video and your thoughts are well developed. Thank you Joshua.

Thanks so much for this. I agree with your observations and think that form of compassion and time is sorely lacking of late!
