I don't understand why people hate the idea of getting Tua just because of an injury. The Lions didnt have any problem reaching for Tavai who had a season ending shoulder injury in last years draft and taking Kerryon in 2018 who has also been injury prone throughout his Football career. So why is Tua's situation any different? Mike has clearly stated that this scenario is that if Tua is cleared by doctors and looks good at the combine. Why not do a Patrick Mahomes deal where you sit him behind Stafford for a year and see what happens? Then if you have a bad year (most likely) you have a head start on the rebuild and these clowns are gone, if it actually goes well next year then you have two good quarterbacks and can trade one or the other moving forward.

  • @jdavid1027

It's the type of injury that Tua had, Lionz. Besides, I'm not sure that the best pick for the Lions isn't Young! We need DEFENSE. Chase young on the other end from Tre Flowers is instant fear for opposing QBs. Then go and resign Suh to scare the shit out of them in the middle and you finally have a defensive line again for the first time since we had Suh the first time. Fear The Roar!

We can't draft a quarterback because of a hip issue and we don't get a backup because Stafford is "the man" despite a broken back. This is why my dad and I have seen the same number of playoff wins in our lifetime. If we're not winning now what's the harm in continuing to not win? Take the chance on actually getting a good talent. If Tua is there, you gotta grab him for when Stafford eventually just gets broken in half.

But to say he’s been garbage and assuming you’re claiming he’s a bust already and hasn’t even played a full 16 games is laughable. The Lions went with Okudah who has rarely seen the field let alone helped the defense turn it around. Long term they’ll both be studs in the league, but when the Lions are looking for a quarterback to replace Stafford and the Dolphins are set for Tua. They’ll regret not thinking long term.

Not to mention how worried “fans” get about Staffords back(and expect to trade him with said injury) yet ignore the severe hip injury that Tua suffered.

  • @massenergyspacetime

Hip dislocations are a different beast altogether than any other fracture. The problem is that 1/4 minor hip dislocs lead to avascular necrosis of your hip which is game over for Tua (see Bo Jackson). Compound this with the fact that he also has a fracture of his hip for which we dont know any details and it makes him a very high risk pick. A fracture of the acetabulum itself is enough to cause significant debilitating arthritis. No one knows the prognosis because no one knows if he will get AVN of hip or arthritis or have loose bodies in hip joint etc etc. My own personal opinion and take it for what its worth is that he was told about these risks in the future but was told he has an excellent prognosis. It would be too risky to return to Alabama and all he has to do is get picked in the first round to get a big paycheck regardless of whether or not he plays which is yet to be determined. I say don't draft him as much as i like him and his career at Alabama.

For those Lions fans who are against drafting Tua and basing it on Bo Jackson career ending injury I'd like to ask this, when did Bo get injured? Do you think today's technology and years of new research and medicine may have helped Bo at the time and possibly allow him to continue being very productive. Also what about Stafford, seems like a lot of ppl don't want to draft a guy who once was the consensus top pick to replace an aging QB we don't even know will be coming back or will be the same for his limited amount of years left in the league and being capable of winning games for us. We don't get this opportunity to draft someone this talented unless we get the 1st pick which isn't easy to do so if Tua comes back and during the NFL combine, pro day and tests come back with reason to believe that this won't affect him long-term, Lions HAVE to draft this guy!!!

The NFL is such an unbelievably demanding sport on your body, and some people are just not built for it. Look at Marcus Mariota. A year later and the Lions made the right choice passing on Tua, Okudah sucks but Tua would not not have been the right pick either. Stafford about a top 7 QB for at least another 5 years

Jeff Okudah or Isaiah Simmons maybe...? Like fuck, how about we think about fixing the actual problem on our team which is defense. I don’t disagree with Mike about Tua at all. The hip is a non factor in this discussion and he’s a top 3 player in the draft... but he doesn’t play defense. Obviously a trade down is what you want but taking Okudah at 3 isn’t the end of the world if nobody bites. You’re getting a blue chip player at a premium position in the game who will also be the best available DEFENDER on the board... why are we acting like staying at 3 means you take Tua or it’s a bust? Okudah is going to be one of the best corners in this league in the next few years and if the Jalen Ramsey trade taught us anything it’s just how valuable elite corners can be...

The caller is right here...and MValenti is wrong...NO player with a serious hip injury has EVER performed at a high level in the NFL...so MV is wrong and Andre is right...Detroit has an incompetent radio team that is PERFECT for the city of the Lions...and i could go out on the street in any city of size in the US and get a radio host AT LEAST as good as MV and these guys...
