He’s mad because Dantonio left the program in the exact same place it was in before he got here and before John L Smith was fired. 2. The press conference was announced AFTER Dantonio’s tweet about him stepping down from his position. For those of you who are a little mentally slow, Mike does a live show. He reports things as they happen. The tweet and news of the retirement came in BEFORE the press conference was announced. The fact that Mike explains this multiple times and people still say “He did announce a press conference” and “You whined about him not retiring and now you whine when he does,” ...some of you need to work on context clues.

The real story here isn't Dantonio leaving: it's Sully's haircut 😮

We all thought this was his last year and I was surprised when February came and he was still at MSU. But, you are correct, this stinks more than a beach with red tide!

Sometimes Mike hits it out of the park. This is one of those times.

I'm a Valenti fan, and have been for over a year now. Leaving before the ceiling caves in? At first glance, it's eerily similar to Pete Carroll, at least IMO.

No sound fx? WTF! You got Mike just pressing a computer screen with NOTHING coming through!

Podium: I assumed he would - & he did.

This rant ranks right up there with Notre Dame 2006, and it's 100% deserved. But at least we got a good replacement in Mel Tucker. It's worth noting that not only did Dantonio leave the school itself hanging, he also screwed over his own assistant coaches. The new regime's cleaning house, and given how late it is they're going to struggle to find work. It's pretty ironic for a guy who was famous for being overly loyal to his assistants.

Door #4 the higher ups asked him to resign because they didn't want to fire such a good coach but wanted him to step down with dignity. That would also explain why he didn't show up for Mel Tucker being named head coach. And didn't want to call a press conference.

Definitely not buying the spend more time with my family excuse now that his children are all grown up. He may just have thought that this Blackwell thing would go away, and he has experienced firsthand what a distraction this stuff can be to a football team and didnt want to put this team through that again. I will always be thankful to Coach D for reviving this program, but he should have resigned at the end of the season so MSU could make a hard push for Pat Shurmur before the Denver Broncos made him their OC!

At least he didn't pull the old Uncle Urban and step down due to " health issues ". Uncle Urbs needed time to recoup his health and be with family but there he is on FOX NCAA Game Day every week.

I'm just glad Dantonio is going, he could've dragged this out for years if he wanted. He was amazing from the time he was hired to ~2015, but he's been mailing it in for years (2017 was a fluke), protecting his doofus church buddies. Thanks for everything Mark, but not sad to see you go. MSU needs to move forward and out of the stone age. Mark did leave MSU at the worse possible time though and left a dumpster fire of a program in his wake. He took his 4.3 million and ran lol, new yachts aren't cheap though. Mini-Tressel better only ever be interim head coach, MSU desperately needs to clean house and start over fresh. Best bet is Fickell if he can be convinced to come here and coach against his alma mater in OSU every year. Urban is a pipe dream. Campbell from ISU could be interesting. He is currently being investigated for recruiting violations. His players that he recruited were getting suspended on a regular basis for steroids and assault. He took his bonus and ran.
