Ma Rainey inspired alot of female artist. It's very disrespectful that the occupation on her death certificate displays "housekeeper" instead of singer/entrepreneur.

Big Mama Thorton, Memphis Minnie, Ida Cox, Bessie Smith, all inspired music we hear today..google them and listen to some, its incredible!!

Thanks for this! This was more informative than the Ma Rainey movie! After watching the Viola Davis film, I still didn't know anything about her, except she was a successful blues singer in the 1920's. Which is why I was underwhelmed and wished the film was more about her.
