The Doris Bither case, also known as the Entity haunting, was a 1974 investigation into alleged paranormal phenomena in Culver City, California, experienced by a woman named Doris Bither. The case inspired Frank De Felitta's 1978 book The Entity which was made into a 1982 film of the same name.

You're right. And not only are they not believed, they are sometimes belittled and mocked. I've been a paranormal investigator for over about 15 years and quite often the home owner requests that we never divulge their information. Sometimes this is just so other people don't bug them about letting them investigate, but a lot of times it's because they're afraid that they'll be called crazy and don't want to risk their reputation.

Are we to believe whatever people tell us. It looks to me like that this case should have been investigate by the police. I'm in way saying people should be mocked or belittled but everyone should have a healthy amount of skepticism especially when dealing with fantastical stories. If evidence exist then an honest objective investigation of the phenomena should be done by qualified investigators.

As someone in recovery and who has always been sensitive I can confirm this. The things I would see and experience would literally feel like the purest evil. I’m not talking little shadows here and there. I’m talking scar you for life things. Whatever, or whom ever it was, didn’t want to let go. I had always felt closer to archangel Michael even as a child and he was the one I called out to constantly in my recovery process. I swear without him and God darkness would have had my soul. That was 7 years ago and I still celebrate him and pray to him daily to thank him. The creepiest thing I ever saw and experienced was a woman in the shower with me. Out of nowhere. Her jaw was long and broken from my face. She was yelling but nothing was coming out. Her head was shaking like she was really really yelling at me. She had her eyes covered with some type of rag. Her hands were above her head bound. This was the most scared I have ever been in my life. I could scream nothing would come out. I fell out of the shower and when I looked back.. of course she was gone. It scared me so bad she’s burnt into my brain.

The system failed this woman and her family. She needed an exorcist, not researchers. Her experience is comparable to the Smurls or the Amity ille case. Her son Brian is still alive and supports his mom's story 100 percent. He called it the hell house in an interview and said everything happened just as she told it. I'm thinking the ghosts that haunted her at her previous house followed her then the more evil spirits on that land were the ones doing the attacks. She should have listened to the old woman who was attacked herself there as a child. I feel sorry for Doris having to suffer so much so long. She also needed treatment for her addictions which I'm sure made her more vulnerable. I've had my own poltergeist manifestations in various houses. Like objects getting knocked over and thrown in front of me or in another room. It's happened in front of friends too. Also the same streaks of white light that flash and go through ceilings and walls. I've learned protection spells and have friends in high places so they never touch me. I wish her family had known what I know or could have found somebody like a shaman or priest who could have cleared that up. I only hope she isn't still being tormented on the other side and she's got protective angels or spirits now.

Protection spells is why you experience it. You can’t fight witchcraft with witchcraft. Only God and in his name then you’d never experience it again. I’ve seen things to when I was far from God and I know it’s all real. I haven’t seen or experienced anything frightening since prayer on it long ago.

So tragic. The vulnerable, especially those with mental health struggles are often ostracized and not believed. Her struggles were clearly real whether she manifested them herself, or they chose her to exploit her vulnerability. A huge cry for help that went unheard. She suffered, her children suffered, and all that came of this was a broken family, and people who sought profit from her decline. Whose the real "demon" in this case?

Oh my gosh! My favorite "haunting" of all time. The most terrifying movie I ever saw, second only to The Exorcist. I completely believe Doris' story. So terrifying in the type of assaults she faced. Thank you so much Kody. For giving this case well deserved coverage. I was 17 years old when I saw the movie in theatres. It changed me as far as realization that entities can and will have the strength to harm violently. It's horrifying enough that women face the assaults by real people, but a ghost?...terrifying! I always wondered if it may have been her deceased lover. She did say he had been very abusive. As bad as the movie was, the book by Frank D. scarred me for life 😂

My children and I were followed by spirits from home to home for years. Every home we lived in had some sort of haunting. I believe a spirit or spirits attached themselves to us. Thankfully it has died down now that my kids are now young adults. Entities are very real and I wouldn't wish these evil ones on anyone.

I have 2 different thoughts on this case. Number one is that negative entities will take advantage of and be drawn to people with addiction problems and or are experiencing mental health struggles. So in this case it could have been a double whammy. It seems to be implied that she may also have been through some physical abuse in her past as well. This can definitely draw negative entities in because the person is easier to manipulate and take advantage of. Number two is that she may have actually created this entity because of her past and present situation.I heard about an experiment with researchers that made up a story about a spirit they named Peter. They created an entire story about him. They acted as if the story was real, even though they all knew it was fake. They actually started receiving answers in the form of knocks and table tipping. Something else to think about is that she may have had some type of psychic ability that she didn't know about and drew these entities to her.

I've heard a theory about various mental health issues and psychic abilities. I've always wondered about it. It's a theory that people who have a 6th sense often also are depressed etc. It's almost a what came first the chicken or the egg thing. Did they develop anxiety or depression etc because of their inability to cope with their abilities at a young age, or did the existence of anxiety or depression make them more susceptible to another realm.

This story looks like a well documented case so the fact that I havent heard of it is super weird. With that being said, what a creepy case! I cannot imagine enduring something like that. Those poor kids. 😢

I remember this case well. It rankles that, although several people, including family members, were documented as having experienced paranormal phenomena in the house only Doris' mental health was ever questioned. Also, it seems more than a little unfair to bring up the absent oldest child and to speculate on the cause of her absence even going so far as to contemplate that it had something to do with Doris' supposed psychological problems. That might be good for a 'scary story' but it deals less in facts and more in defamation.

I sometimes wish to go back to homes I used to live in that have very negative vibes due to abuses that took place and also paranormal activity...and I want to tell the people living there to watch out.
