Competing in the Original by Motul category is undoubtedly the toughest challenge of the Dakar Rally. Competitors in this class don't have the support of a factory team behind them and must do all bike maintenance and repairs themselves, or with the help of other riders.
Join us as we follow Paul Neff and his friends of the American Rally Originals through the early stages of the 2023 Dakar Rally.

Work with #netflix and make a “Ride to Survive” series! The #dakar such a unique and grueling test of man, machine, team.. but these unsupported guys are the TRUE endurance champs. Just finishing as unsupported should come with the same notoriety as the Factory teams. The Sahara, the Atocama, the Saudi deserts are unforgiving. Imagine getting marooned out there. It’s almost a death sentence

@@wyattchampion Ciao Wyatt, Yes, for me Heroes, Because to wake up at 3 in the morning to do 800 km a day in the middle of the desert, in the stones etc. maybe in the rain like this year, and then instead of resting you have to do maintenance on the bike yourself ... going to sleep late ... you have to be special people, and I see these special people as modern heroes, capable of doing things out of the ordinary.

@@wyattchampion Well yes, the idea of going against the odds, competing against others that have it easier, but not cowering and doing it anyway without whining. That is what people admire for a good reason.

Much love for Paul neff!
ALL you originals you are the essence of this adventure good luck to you all.
The drivers are there own mechanics, techs, engineers and drivers of their vehicles... the true motor/ car guys
I see only one left out of five in the final stage. Congratulations to him and to the team 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Amazing! Would love to see more of these guys. Huge respect to all finishers and participants!
I can’t LIKE this enough.
„We have a red box“. Love these guys. Well done.
@0:15 you say no American has finished the Dakar unsupported. Chris Jones finished the Dakar in 2007 unsupported. There's probably been a few others as well.
I've raced against Paul Neff. He's fast a F, boi
An incredibly humbling experience. I've been dreaming of Dakar myself. Well done guys. Been riding since i was 6yo,but don't reckon i would survive a day. Respect.......

I'm also a little disappointed by the lack of coverage for those who do the Dakar without assistance!! They are indeed heroes of this endurance test💪

It's been an amazing race so far!
Carlo de Gavardo was the first American in Malle Moto, in fact he was the first privateer, and the first American who makes podium in Dakar Rally in late 90's, only half an hour of some Italian guy called Fabrizio Meoni (Multiple Dakar Winner, who tragically lost his life, racing the Dakar a few years later), his assistance by the time of the Podium, if I don't recall bad, was a close friend as Mechanic and his Dad, in a privateer KTM 660 Replica, against all the KTM Factory bikes of that time, and Some Yamahas After that accomplishment came the KTM Factory Team and give Carlo official driver Status, Carlo was instrumental in developing the KTM 450 Rally, before that, all the bikes were 660cc He was the first American, he was so respected in the Biouvac than knowing him was instrumental in the decision of moving the Dakar to America in late 2000's

This is just completely unbelievable, that people can do this... that people choose to do this. Bravo.

Why not show the unsupported Lady of the race? Kirsten Landman....

I love it when people from all parts of the world get out of their own ponds and find adventures that their neighbours not necessarily knows anything about. But those that know, they know... 🥰

How awesome is that! Being able to have a go and follow the dream.
Awesome job lads. What a journey that must be Good on yas
The real heroes of the Dakar
We need more of this!! How did he finish?
This category is too little promoted, generaly speaking, including the other channels too, Dakar ch. especially. And they do the real Dakar race, being drivers, then in the 2nd part of they day, mechanics.
This is the true spirit of the Dakar rally. For me.
Absolutely amazing
Nice work boys!

It should be titled "The unsung heroes of Dakar". The limelight on the stars is so huge that the passion of motorsports is lost.

What are the official requirements to enter and ride the Dakar like this team? Can 'anyone' enter? Are there qualifiers? TIA :)
i wish there were more field(bivouac) repair video's how guys do that on the trip etc.
This is what Dakar and rallying is about.
Warriors!
This is me, rocking up to every race, BY MYSELF, tool bag in hand, ready to kick ass alone. Idk what to do to get sponsored. It would be nice to at least have a team though...

The race is only half of the effort. The logistics of it all is the hard part. Customs, credentials, your gear & bike is a massive undertaking that obviously takes place long before race begins.

I want more of this. This is real racing. Couldn't care less about million dollar prototypes driven by people who have never had a real job.
Is riding a bike a standard for armatur racers or it can be any vehicle.
This is the only category I have watched for awhile now. Dakar lost a lot of it's luster once bigger names got into it.
No offence to this guy, but Malle Motto category in Dakar has some regular competitors who do reach finish almost every year. And they do make a big story out of it by the huge media house, do not wear gear with gold accents, work on their bike purely by themselves, and do not wake up in a tent with the clipped mic being turned on :D So it would be nice to cover these legends.
It's a different thing when you cant just throw money at it.
Kinda weird a company with the biggest budget in sport across the globe running a story on unsupported competitors, perhaps you could help them out a little 🤦♂️
You should be very proud of yourself
The Dakar as it once was, an extreme adventure only for private drivers and motorsport freaks with money. Today the Dakar is a gigantic battle of materials with the best professional racing drivers, but no longer differs from all other major motorsport events. Even if there are still enough private drivers, you won't find them in the reports.
Just wondering, why do most Americans love cars that are either running around in circles for hours or race in straight lines in less than a minute ? I'm really curious
