Sandraiders 2023 Pt.3. Riding the dunes of the Sahara plus what it takes to do this event
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
117 riders entered Sandraiders 2023 to experience riding on 1600km of tracks used in the legendary Paris-Dakar race during the eighties and nineties.
I entered this year on a Yamaha TT600 while my son Charlie took his Honda XR600R and in this video you get see what happens as we scramble through some of the greatest scenery Morocco has to offer over the 7-days the Sandraiders event runs for. Dunes, dust lakes, rocky passes, they're all here!

No need to apologize for making this series so long, Harry. An event such as this needs a series of videos to really cover it, as well as the beauty of the surrounding scenery. Thanks again for sharing it all with us! 👍👍👍

Totally agree 😁
I am a car guy & as such normally have little to no interest in bikes or bike events but somehow this one completely fascinates me! Expensive to take part in but if you have the money & the commitment, what a trip! Bucket list stuff!

I think you looked the price up wrong? 2700 euro inc 8 nights hotel, bike transport, all food/water, full mechanical support and support vehicles…… it’s far from Expensive and very good value

Might also be factoring the cost of bike modifications. 15k! Ouch!!

Dakar comes back to life. Cheers Harry, Charlie fair play you are doing some wonderful adventures and taking us along.
Not long enough , absolute fantastic series , thanks for having us along, to You, your son and the group you went with a big thank yous for the footage and narration. It is an incredible event to have an insight into from upon your viewpoint on the bike.
A huge thank you from me for all the effort you and your son have put into filming and editing this Harry. I enjoyed all 3 episodes very much
What a fantastic series. Thanks for putting it all together 👍🏽
Not into bikes but I loved this series

Testament to the quality of this film... I would not describe myself as even the slightest bit interested in bikes/Sandraiders etc. ... but I watched every minute of every film. Great stuff.
Wow! Phew! Respect, and we’ll done all! Thanks Harry
Great adventure and so good that you were able to record and share it with us Harry 👍 More importantly what a fantastic adventure to do with your son, this is what memories are made of! Charlie will remember these sort of times shared with you for the rest of his life 😊
I don't ride bikes but couldn't stop grinning watching these videos
A superb series with some stunning video footage and narrated with Harry's characteristic self effacing understatement. Well done to all three, but especially Metcalfe senior. I'm 63 and I'd be lucky to manage one stage of this, let alone seven. Hugely enjoyable; thank you.
Brilliant, loved the series and especially the nitty gritty of competing.
I could just about manage Day 4...a man must know his limitations ! Excellent Harry thanks.
I am seriously jealous of Charly for the lifetime of memories he collected and will be collecting with you Harry. I think its a massive prevelage an d God send. I never knew my father not even a picture. Godspeed.
Not really into bikes but these videos have been excellent. Harry’s enthusiasm for this is infectious, by the end of the video I’m thinking about buying a bike 😂

James ! Go for it ! Plenty of off-road schools in the U.K. too! Get lessons first … then take advice from the instructor as to what bike to buy. You won’t regret it.
Hat's off to you Harry and your friends for hacking it out to the end. I really enjoyed the updates throughout this grueling run I think the heat would have done me in. See you on your next video. Well done Harry.
Thank-you so much for posting these video's Harry! I rode dirt-bikes decades ago and seeing the footage of you going through the river-beds and sand in that heat exhausted me just viewing it! What great memories for a father and son to make together.
I have avoided this channel because of my neighbour! He loves cars and mentioned you a LOT. The booga never told me you were into bikes as well. This is just the stuff I love, THANKS.
Really impressive to do this with the young guys!...😊👍
Huge respect to you for completing this event Harry. Quite an achievement.
thx Harry n Charlie for another great Sandraiders. hopefully u both can do it all again next year. hope all is well with ur 2 mates who couldnt finish. well done to the Sandraiders Organizers for another top event n bring on 2024.
You're a deadset legend Harry... best automotive content on the net by far 🤘
absolutely love this- massive respect to you Harry for doing this! not a walk in the park. i have loved Dakar for 30 years and now I've found this event at 56 i think I'm asking some mates if they fancy doing it with me for 2025 maybe.. NOW... what bike???? mmmm
Hi Harry don't worry about how long the video is it's the best thing you do and it must be such an experiance Kev
Amazing series from Sandraiders, thanks very much!
Excellent series of videos. Huge respect to all who do this. Thanks for filiming.
Great job "Old Man" I gave up dirt bikes years ago or I should say my body did. Still ride at age 70 and have no plans of stopping. Maybe you should dip your bikes in loc-tite for this ride.
The internet made more wholesome. Thank you for sharing this amazing experience, Harry & Charlie! It'll be Sandraiders 2024 in no time ;)
Huge thank you to you and Charlie for chronicling your experience on this event. It’s been a fantastic watch and I loved all the videos. Keep up all the great work guys the channel goes from strength to strength 🏆🫶🏻
Good old dads ay.... always saving the day with the fuel!!!! 😂😂😂❤❤❤😂😂😂❤❤❤😂😂😂
Don't apologize for the length of video, this series has been fantastic. Already looking forward to 2024. The best part of this is seeing you and your son making lifelong memories together. The smiles said it all.
That is a proper adventure and makes me want to give up 30 years of sports bike and buy a trail. Thanks for posting the videos and we'll done on completing it guys 😁
Utterly brilliant Harry. You and Charlie should do a TV documentary.
Harry Hardcore! That was amazing, much much respect.
What an amazing event and videos chaps - do not apologise for the duration of the films they were great. I’m feeling inspired by the various 4 wheel versions of the events 😊
Absolutely fantastic Harry. Could have watched that for hours!
Hi Harry, Really enjoyed the sandraiders series! Must be great doing this with your son's. I'm glad you introduced me to sandraiders. Thanks. Roy.
how I look forward to Harry's vids, especially the adventures.
Excellent, thanks for taking us along for the ride
Excellent, love this sort of thing. Thanks for taking the time to record and edit.
Epic Harry! I expect to see your name on the Dakar entry list soon! 😊
Brilliant to see the interaction between father and son . 👍👍
Loved every minute of all 3 episodes. It's very nostalgic for me having had a Honda XL600R & XR650L in the past and really miss those bikes. Great coverage and respect to Harry for hanging in there. I would love to do it with my KTM 690R but the entry, bike prep plus shipping my bike from South Africa makes this event a costly affair.
Ant apology is totally unnecessary. A tremendous effort, with spectacular rewards. Many thanks for shearing the moments with us two wheeled lovers Harry. Bw from the Forest of Blackness, Mike
looking forward to the after-action report, where your bike gets taken apart and see what little problems were pending... thanks for taking us (arm chair adventurers) on the trip!
Congratulations for finishing Sandraiders 2023, well done!
Well done boysthankyou so much for bringing me along... just such a mind Bogle 😊 epic video, kind regards from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Harry - this is your best work yet. I have really enjoyed the longer detailed Sand Raiders series. It was as close as I could get to riding it with you. Please do more bike videos and keep up the great channel.
Enjoyed these Harry (and Charlie!).............. and I'm not even a Biker!
Thank you for this vlog, really enjoyed it. Harry's Garage is by far the best motoring channel on YT. Sandraiders is definately an event I will enter; unfortunately I'll need to be retired and a tad fitter! Thank you again.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'll be there in 24!

@@harrysgarage Sorry if I did make it sound like I already signed up. I didn't. What I, in fact, did was impulse buying a KTM 620 Adventure R and will start prepping it. You said, "start early". Sign-up doesn't seem to be open yet. It might be a bit early, anyway. Thanks again to be an accidental inspiration! :)
Superb mini series, thoroughly enjoyed watching it. You certainly didn’t sugar coat it in the end on how difficult it is, look forward to watching your next adventure.
what it takes 😂 , a product close to quality ... - what a adventure similar to cars not made in germany ; have nice days ...✌️🍀
Love these Sandraiders videos - thanks Harry and Charlie for the great content. I don't ride myself, but my father did so I know how challenging/fun it is . . . and doing it all while capturing the experience so professionally on video for an audience, just amazing work. Congratulations on finishing!!
Hard to describe my admiration for what you, Charlie and the others put yourself through to accomplish a finish. I really enjoyed watching last year’s adventure and was looking forward to the return. Somehow, even though you posted much more video, this year’s event seemed less engaging somehow. I think part of that was giving less emphasis to all of the peripheral things involved, like the logistics of getting the bikes transported, the overnight stopping sites and those who took care of participants, and the general area. Last year came across as a fun challenge. This year seemed like a much bigger challenge but not very much fun. Biking over rock-strewn dry rivers or miles of powdery sand in 40 degree heat seems a bit much. Congratulations on getting through it without bad things happening. And as always, thank you for the quality video content.
That was such an amazing series of videos!! Thank you. I would have watched this on TV, it was that good.
Just awesome. Thanks Harry. This is a goal for me to do I think. Great job to film It all too. This is real and an experience to rival few.
That didn't feel like a long video, and I don't even like bikes that much! Just amazing to see the scenery, comradely between riders, and Harry managing to complete the event! Yes, it looks tough and I'm not sure why someone wouldn't think so. All day on a bike, off-road, is tough. And as you get tired, you stop flexing as much. That's when it gets dangerous, and I know that from skiing where I break up the day with a few hot chocolates. I'm really impressed Harry kept up with Charlie!
What an amazing adventure and them old school bikes without all the bells and whistles of the new machines are looking awesome.. Thanks for sharing this epic trip..... ✊ Braaaaapp..
Brilliant well done guys for finishing, have loved the videos of the whole Rally.
Can't beat the sound of a TT😎
Thanks for filming all this, could have watched it for hours. Looks like loads of fun.
Wow, my body hurts after watching that, those sand sections must have been so tough!
What an adventure, loved every minute. Thanks for taking the huge amount of time and effort this must have taken to film and edit Harry. Loved it.
Absolutely loved these videos. What an amazing adventure and endurance!
NICE ONE HAZZA!!!😊😊😊😊
Great series!! Fantastic wrap up at the end of Part3!! 👍😎👍
Absolutely superb 3 videos Harry and crew well done
Great to see you living the dream.
Best Series ever 👌👌
Congrats Harry. That is a hard event. The heat takes it out of you and out of the bike. Things break with that level of heat that would not break in temps much lower. The things that break here in summer in Australia that never break in the cooler months. At 77 I think I will give it a miss. But thanks for the videos Harry, I rode with you every time you turned on the video camera.
Elegant man Harry, wearing his good t-shirt for the sum-up and outro :D
Amazing series, my favourite on the channel, thank you Harry and Charlie for taking us along!
loved all 3 of these! thanks Harry!
Brilliant videos Harry, really brings the difficulty home.
I’m definitely not fit for event. I got exhausted thinking about it while watching. Fantastic content
What an epic, epic trip and thanks a million for taking us more normal, regular folk along for the ride Harry. I can only imagine the level of fitness and stamina you would need to survive and just get to the end of it all, you obviously did your prep Harry, you looked as fresh as a daisy at the end Harry 😉 No bother to you to keep up with the younger fella's at all. I'm sure you will be looking forward to seeing the green hills and fields of home after all of the dust, rocks and extreme heat Harry. Watching you all speeding along the vast open dessert plains half way through this video, reminded me of a young Anakin Skywalker, blasting across Tatooine in his speeder 😀 The memories that were made on this adventure will last a very long time I'm sure. Glad everyone got through it in one piece...mostly.
Wow! What a great effort to bring a little known (to most of us) grueling event to our attention, we are entertained. I would love to participate but I'm probably a bit passed it. Anyway Harry, you Charley and Oscar made it through with some great footage, Kudos and to all those who took part wether they made it to the finish or not Bravo!.
Brilliant --just brilliant!!
Sensational riding presented sensationally - bravo, good sir, bravo
Absolutely blinding set of videos, Harry! So much respect for your efforts and sharing with us! I want my old 34L Tenere back and have a go!
Thank you Harry and Charlie for taking us along for the ride. I must say it is an epic event, and deserves the time effort and enthusiasm in bucket loads your filming provides. Certainly an event I would like to do myself. If your show was 6 hours long, I would still watch every moment!
Absolutely brilliant lads, well done👍
thank you for sharing your adventure with us,
Really loved this series about Sandraiders, maybe in the future.....
Loved this series again. Who cares how long these are when they are so great!
Just unbelievable guts and determination guys - all of you. Love this!

Enjoyed that and no apologies needed on the length. The wrap up was a great touch - hearing about the prep you did and fitness training.
Thanks for bringing Us along
