We had two astra h estates as our two cars up to recently. First one we got 11 years ago, it was the 1.3 diesel with the 6 speed. It was fairly sluggish alright, but didn't really give much trouble up to about 260k miles. Bought it for just over €6k euro and did 180k miles for me before we scrapped it in the end, really didnt owe me a cent. Possibly could have been fixed but it nearly had 300k at this stage and there was a few bits rusted, was just time to say goodbye to it! The second one is a 2011 (still a h though) 1.7, also with the 6 speed that we have for about 8 yeara. Has about 180k on it and still going strong. Both of them ended up being great buys! Also added cruise control to both of them, dead handy! Neither of ours were as high of spec as yours, but you're right about the practicalities of it, great for the kids and the dogs and the ikea trips! we'll definitely miss it whenever it does five up the ghost!

Yes the Astra MK4 and MK5 are fantastic cars all of them, had countless variants of all them over the years. This is perfect version to when Z17DTH (no DPF) and with the solid F23 gearbox used in V6 Vectra and so on. Has a few 1.3 and 1.7 (A17) stuff good cars but those M32 gearbox’s can become troublesome. I've owned a 2007 astra H SXI 1600 petrol. Great car, it's done 149k miles, had it since 15k with no major problems. Its a punchy engine in my opinion, great on the motorway and returns around 44 mpg on a run. Has never failed an MOT on anything other than a bulb or a damaged tyre. As you say, great cars.

Yeah they are fantastic cars, nothing wrong with the petrol variants, way less to wrong. But when you get used to the torque, fantastic MPG and half price tax of the diesel, it’s hard to go back to a petrol one. But running gear wise, they are never any bother, odd broken spring, shocker or brake Cal that’s about it. Suppose with the petrol ones they will be clean air zone compliant as well

love my astra van . had them since my first D reg . gutted they stopped them . my H is going to have to keep going ..

Very good video Dan. Never thought to look at a Vauxhall estate in my ongoing search, maybe because I need auto and perhaps they are not so good or just hard to find in the diesel version. Anyway; very enjoyable and made me think back to the Omega Estate you had…should have offered you on that. Live and learn.

Any diesel without a DPF is far more reliable than a diesel with a DPF….. that’s from been brand new to present. Long as the car it’s self has been looked after buy a good non dpf car it would far out last a dpf version

Yeah they are alright engines, but rather gutless, poor MPG and high tax in comparison to the Z17DTH in this Astra, almost double the MPG to the petrol, double the torque, half the tax cost….. plus the diesel will do 300,000/400,000 miles before it even shows any significant wear, petrols ain’t good much past 100,000 unless very well looked after

Dan. What’s the best version of a Vectra diesel (in automatic) to look for ?

2.0/2.2 DTI are fantastic with the auto but hard to come by, unfortunately the 1.9 CDTI (Fiat) rubbish took over. I personally would go for nice 3.2 V6 auto Vectra or Sigunm 👌🏼 They do 3.0 V6 diesel Isuzu mostly all auto in the Vectra/Sigunm but they can’t be problematic Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Yeah if it’s 6 speed it’s the M32 or I forget the code exactly the same as the M32

Did they do the 1.7 with Automatic box?

They did after 2008, but from what my automatic gearbox Specilist says avoid avoid avoid lol

I love the mk5 estate it’s stylish van like is very appealing I will be getting one I have had the normal hatch version sxi but estate far better My current vehicle is a 11 plate combo (c) ex Royal Mail

Cracking vans the old combo based on the Corsa C especially if they are 1.7 Isuzu I personally prefer the MK4/G Astra, check my facebook page my little Astra G van just sold
