I absolutely understand why we love the music. But i wish we could give him his privacy and peace he deserves. But at the same time i am obsessed with this man

Thinkin’ Bout You, Bad Religion, AND Forrest Gump are also likely about male partners. Specifically, the unrequited love from Bad Religion, is likely that of his summer fling with a friend who was straight, but he fell in love with. But the friend cared for him, and was vulnerable in a way that heteronormative culture would never allow publicly. That’s why Frank’s openness was so groundbreaking, especially within the music industry.

Definitely agree with you. I always thought bad religion was the more interesting and revealing song that could be about a same-sex relationship, but everyone seemed to gravitate to Forest Gump, probably because it directly mentioned a male love interest.
@braedenhunter6501

@@QualityCulture The importance of this video, and discussion of the vulnerability in general is important, because it can hopefully help suppress this intrinsic reaction of the heteronormative to erase the experience of homosexuals/bisexuals/pansexuals. Whether it be through dismissive comments like, “They’re just friends”, “It’s a joke”, or “He’s just singing from the perspective of a woman,” actually discussing the reality of it is incredibly helpful, and it’s helping us move forward. I just came back to this comment and video after I received a notification from a like on KZread and it reminded me. Great job, dude.

What if the “male partner” is actually just him…
@braedenhunter6501
2 жыл бұрын
@@cmooreHD Either way, his romantic interest is often a male throughout the album, and prior to the release of his album he released an open letter on Tumblr coming out as gay. Since then he has revealed himself to be bisexual, with a romantic interest in men primarily. He’s effectively revealed the romantic aspect of much of the album is about this friend he fell in love with.

@@braedenhunter6501 I understood. All I was just saying was a “what if” option. I didn’t say it was factual. Also this and many other videos suggested that he hasn’t officially stated his sexuality. Or its not truly identifiable. So apparently we are all just assuming which isn’t right to just throw a label.
all these years and thus my first time hearing Frank talk!!!!!?? His voice way deeper than I thought. I love love love this dude
I'm a hard core Frank Ocean fan, and I legit teared up at parts of this. He has some of the most emotionally resonant music I've heard from a male artist in so many years. I feel the themes so heavily, and you really articulated much of what I've felt for him over the years.

I love Frank Ocean, no lie. None of my current life matters unless i'll be able to look back and say i was living for my self and toward my purpose. That's the inspiration I get from Frank Ocean. Try new things, be open. Be humble and new. Let life happen to you and express it thru your own creative means. Be you. Live genuinely. Don't let any external influence stop you from loving who you are and have been. I love you. You dictate your day. Make it a good one. Same with your nights. It's all up to you, how you feel, whatever legacy you intend to leave here. I love you. Have a great experience on Earth🌴
I could wait half a century for Frank’s next drop and I seriously doubt I’d be disappointed
@noripapaya

I literally don’t care how long we have to wait or if he ever makes anything again bc we’re just lucky to exist at the same time as him
My favorite detail off blonde is how “nights” divides the album in two after the switch giving in the theme of the album (duality)
Appreciation for giving time to endless. Most videos on Frank, completely go over that by "it's a side project, that was before blonde" while it's a holy experience of it's own.
Wow, I haven’t thought of Frank Ocean in a while. Last night, I listened to his mixtape all the way through for the first time. Great video, so glad to see that you’re uploading!

Thanks for watching, its much appreciated! I recently listened to his mixtape for the first time since it first came out, its pretty wild how much hes evolved since then and also all the potential he had that was just starting to show itself.
The song “At Your Best” was originally performed by The Isley’s Brothers. Aaliyah’s was a cover as well. Just FYI. No shade. Dope vid, otherwise. 👍🏾

I loved this. I think that a lot of us fans don’t feel like we did when we were waiting for Endless to come. I remember feeling so much frustration waiting for the project to drop. It might be that we’ve all gotten older but I feel like we’re all a lot more patient.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I remember the fever in which people were demanding that Frank drop again after Channel Orange. Now 6 years have gone by since Blonde and it doesn’t feel nearly that long. Of course I yearn for a new album but I’m also content knowing that we may never get new album ever again. I keep thinking about why I feel so much differently this time around but I can definitely appreciate the patience this time around.

@@aliyyahjackson He's headlining Coachella in 2023, so there's reason to hope for new music. I think we're just used to it at this point. Frank gave us such a good album and good singles to where it's going to be worth the wait whenever the new album drops.

In regards to the full motion picture fantasy/lies quote: That was in regards to his music going forward. The album that was going to be released before the tragic events that transpired in 2020, on a global level (the pandemic), and on a personal level (the untimely passing of his younger brother). Dear April is one example of a song that’s purely fantasy. It’s literally like a movie scene. And Blonde is in stark contrast to that, it is completely autobiographical (according to his NYT interview) However, channel orange is depicting his real experiences, through fantasy. So it’s not the same concept as a full-fledged fantasy, which he was going to explore in the yet-to-be released/possibly scrapped project.
@QualityCulture
2 жыл бұрын
While he was definitely talkin bout his music goin forward, I think channel orange was already like that. Maybe he would get more fantastical and abstract in his next project, but I think that’s been a way he’s expressed himself since his mixtape, with creative license
@noclue5345
2 жыл бұрын
@@QualityCulture no. Channel orange expressed a lot of his life through fantasy, meaning: there were real autobiographical elements embedded in the fantasy. With the new music, he wants it to be pure fantasy, because he’s tired of beating the responsibility of being too forthright on record. There were definitely some songs that were pure fantasy on CO though, but in general, it drew from real life experiences and he conveyed that through the fantastical elements of the songwriting. Some examples of fictional stories in the album are: lost, pyramids and Sierra Leone. Some examples of real songs: Forrest Gump, crack rock, super rich kids, thinkin bout you, and of course Bad religion (the most poignant and heartbreaking reflection on the secret he’d been keeping his whole life).

i just love video essays these days they keep you thinking while you relax and entertained oh and also i love this one i found you through the weeknd one which was peak.
i really loved this one mate, thanks! keep it up :)
I’m very new to Frank Ocean’s discography but his moon river cover was smashing I had to listen to more. I gotta take time to let the albums sink in (this video is motivating me to do so-). I love bad religion the most…it spoke to me on a very personal level as a queer atheist person who is hopeless having one sided love. I’m not sure how to explain it but the unrequited love is just so,,,honest and real and the visceral emotions that go through when listening to it is emphasized more in the lyrics and I would probably cry again from listening to it ngl.
Great video man! Deserves more recognition
This is insanely good, informative and for me, a Frank fan since nostalgia, not only a great trip down memory lane but a really great look from a different perspective. I’ve been watching a bunch of video essays during this latest finals season (partly for background noise and partly because I have ideas in my head for my own lol) and this one is definitely one of my favourites. Amazing vid
Good vid, I like your more nuanced approach to examining Frank's music and persona instead of obsessing over the whole endless switcharoo or trying to derive some grand narrative out of his work. And kudos to actually looking into endless instead of writing it off as just being intentionally obtuse or filler to get out of his contract. Btw there's some footage you used near the end, around 22:09, that looks like handheld film camera footage and has an indie/diy vibe. What's that from? Never seen it before.

Thanks, I appreciate that! I always wanna focus on the music in videos like this, especially for Endless because people tend to focus on the behind-the-scenes stuff and ignore the artistic aspects of it, so I just wanted to acknowledge that. Been looking for this video to watch it againn. As a huge Frank Ocean fan watching it felt so different.
I ain’t gay, I’m straight af but I LOVE Frank Ocean music. In a age where people DO NOT BUY MUSIC ANYMORE. I bought Blonde, Novacane, Chanel, and Swim Good. I may not be able to relate to falling in love with another man but I can relate to falling in love with a woman and it not working out well. It’s the beauty of taking someone’s experiences and not prying. Even if I don’t 100% relate, I take aspects of it to my personal life and enjoy it. Relate to it or even change my perspective to take in a new feeling to the music I’m listening to.

I understand now ! At the end of Channel Orane he sampled "ATL" in the Song "End" which was "At Your Best'' the original song played in the car scene in ATL. Now leading to the next Project "Endless" he follows through from where he left off . I see now .

what i'm worried about is that the reason why we haven't gotten another album is that he knows how good blonde was and how much we loved it and now is too worried about his next one net being as well received as blonde and thereby people spewing hate. but for the record i know that whatever he does he's doing on his terms so fuck yeah frank, do you.
