R: Racing Evolution's "questionable driving" in replays is most likely a quirk of the emulation, same happens e.g. in Gran Turismo replays and license test demos. These replays most likely look fine on real hardware.

God, the callback in the "completing Heat as a ricer" video was great

I used to play Evolution GT and boy do i have so so many childhood memories of it,none of them in which i won anything tho cuz the game was hardd or at least hard for the young me who didn't know much other than "press button thing goes woo wooo" so the game beat me instead of me beating the game but still so so many good memories with it aswel as 4x4 Evolution 2 which i probably played hundreds of hours of and even finding exploits and such by myself. Good old days of lack of internet and lack of "don't know something then google it" back when if the games were hard you had to have the will to not give up and find out everything instead of today's games that hold your hand and even so most ppl think they're too hard XD

Total Immersion Racing for the PS2 released in 2002 was another of those titles that featured GT & Prototype racing on real tracks, this was the first game that I remembered a console featuring Sebring, but compared to Gran Turismo at the time the handling & graphics weren't up to par

I remember TIR as well, got the game for PC in a cereal box. I put a lot of hours into it, interesting car selection too.

When you reviewed R Racing Evolution, you forgot to tell us what game you were actually talking about at the start LOL

It's not really a clone but the handling has enough depth to not be an arcade racer. The best "GT clone" (in this case, competitor because the XBOX needed something to compete with GT before Forza) is Project Gotham Racing 2. I'll never get over being able to go into your garage and walk around ALL your cars in first person mode, then take them out on the test course that's literally next door. Has any other game done that since then?

Automodelista or "auto mona lisa" as i hear from the menu has timeless visuals

I do like what these games tried to do to set it apart from GT though sadly most of them have been axed. It's just a shame that these were lost to time, some were pretty meh gameplay wise but there are some gems among them like Auto Modellista. Great video as always Dove, props to you and Sharicite for pushing out another video to help brighten up my day.

Auto Modelista hands down is my favorite from the bunch. It really isn't a GT clone IMO. The only GT thing about it is maybe the UI which resembles older GTs. It's its own thing really. The AI is ridiculously annoying though in later championships especially in rain. Luckily wall riding ain't so bad in this game and you don't lose too much speed.

13:35 I wanna correct this section. Hidden track in original JP release is Tamiya Circuit (and I guess EU version is basically the same) and didn't feature 2 oval tracks. I also have JP release of US tuned. It has 2 oval tracks from the beginning of the game (even have races in there from level 1) and hidden track is also Tamiya Circuit.

I wish more devs would use cell shading graphics.

Also, I have found a copy of everyone of these GT clones this includes the original Sega, GT for the Dreamcast and Metropolitan Street racer for the dream cast, and Sega GT two for the original Xbox and I quite like them I like collecting racing games in general I’ve yet to get the Corvette GT evolution one but I’m probably gonna pick that one up now that I’ve seen it

My older brother didn't want to play Corvette GT Evolution because he didn't want a game limited only on one brand. Now I found out it wasn't limited, just got poorly titled XD

Don’t forget about Enthusia professional racing by Konami on the PS2 it has some of the best driving physics and driving video game in my opinion even today it’s very good but it’s very hard to beat that game but that’s what makes it good

Well, sadly I didn't own any of the GT competitor games, but back in the day I had Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo bought in my local kiosk, but for some reason I couldn't run it on my PC ;( On the other hand I'd love to see you trying other niche game that I played more than 14 years now that is Total Immersion Racing. You should try it, I had it on a CD but it snapped so I couldn't play it, and even worse the cracked version from the Internet wasn't working without the serial number which I couldn't find online.

I remember getting R: Racing Evolution for GameCube because it was in a retail store bargain bin, and I didn't have a PS2 yet at the time. Auto Modellista is a game that I really wanted to like, but the changes Capcom made with the US Tuned version just made the game absolutely unplayable to me.

I played A.M and R:Racing Evo and I liked R:Racin more.

Enthusia is a clone that was better than Gran Turismo for me specifically, but maybe not for everyone else.

All these GT wannabe games seemed good in my opinion, but idk each of those games may literally having unique characteristics and it's quite forgetful for comparing the Gran Turismo wannabes to Gran Turismo. But R: Racing Evolution is still ok tbh as it's a pretty good idea and it's typically an blend between Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo...

I tried so hard to like sega gt. I wanted to like it so bad, I loved my Dreamcast and I gave that damn game so many shots but the handling of the cars was just terrible and I couldn’t get over it.

Forza Motorsport on og Xbox is pretty good. Sega GT2002 is a bit boring and doesn't want to work with a component cable.

The best racing games for PS2 : Kaido battle 1 Kaido battle 2 Chain Reaction Kaido Battle 3 Touge no Densetsu Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix Shutokou 01 and 80% people dont know about these , for me each of those is better than gran turismo 4 . but GT4 is amazing game no doubt .

I'm not one of these people who make a big show of being against fan service in video games. I find that shit pretentious, but I will say that I personally wrote R: Racing Evolution off as low budget crap when I first saw it in catalogs just judging by the cover art. Something about the combo of the jank McLaren 3D model that's inferior to what's actually in the game (although the overexposed yellow Viper wasn't much better) with a hot girl didn't exactly scream "quality product" to me, even as a kid. The Pantera cover should've been the only front cover for that game.

But closest to Gt was Enthusia Professional Racing - Remastered Physics Featurette - PS2 kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKCX2dKqm8q6itI.html great handling and with challenging licenses. BTW Sega Gt was a turd with cars handling like a boat.
