The Unintended Consequences of Playing God

Our attempts to make scientific and technological advances often leave us confronting the harm they can do. Genetically modified food can make food more accessible, but it threatens economies and environments in places like the Congo. Lab-grown meat reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases but puts farmers out of business.
These are the unintended consequences of playing God.

This was excellent! I have a brilliant Chinese National student living with me. In order to develop critical thinking skills, I've worked with him to do a quick mental exercise: Whenever he hears or reads about an issue, he thinks up 3 pros and 3 cons. @@AbdelkaderMoussaoui-fq3dq I understand, however I think there are two questions. First question is this: is it really bad or does it just lead to change? As we eliminate jobs for farmers, we need to take care of them, but removing a hard labor job leading to jobs that are better for people is, in my book, a good thing. The second question is this: does doing something new really make us loose everything from before? Email doesn't cut our ability to write letters. In fact it makes things special in its own way. So overall, I would say the majority of changes create overall positive change that doesn't eliminate what came before.

Most of this video is just supporting free healthcare and an univeral income. NASA only uses half a cent per person per year, and have made technology like the phone camera or advancements in computers. They are part of the reason we know as much about climate change as we do. The problem lies more in "Humans dont really need to work anymore" rather than "This could put people out of their jobs". There are reasons companies now use the four day work week and lowered the working hours. The only problem is profit seeking companies that would rather watch the world burn before they loose a percent of profit.

@@richardscathousenah, he just acknowledges that the issue of people losing jobs isn’t as big as it’s made out to be. In America we have more empty homes than homeless and could feed the world with what we waste. Housing, healthcare, and income all being universal isn’t a pipe dream it’s actually more than possible. The issue isn’t that we can’t produce what’s required for those to exist it’s that our entire economy and political system prioritizes profit over everything. The profit motive only serves the interests of cooperate higher ups, share holders and politicians. No one should have access to a billion dollars when others need to work 2 jobs to eat 3 times a day. Especially not when those billions were produced through the labor of the employees, and the profiteers simply set the system up to syphon the value of their labor into their own profit margins. Profit is simply unpaid wages, idc if the ceo had the idea, it isn’t them producing the product or service, it’s them having control of the means of production while backed by a system that’s still trying to convince people 15 an hour would ruin the economy so they can continue to farm us for our labor.

I'm happy the EU has a very hard stance against these developments. GMO foods are available only in limited form, and with heavy restrictions. Opposite to the US's FDA...the EU's Food Safety Organisation requires ALL food products to be proven safe before they're allowed. There's strict products regulations anyways, to ensure that producers strive towards better products. Sure, there are lots of GM altered food products, but overall the food quality is pretty high.

Our history of upliftment and it's trajectory are vital, and when it comes down to it, the only true obstacle to it has always been willful ignorance, and the solution to it is knowledge. I had a surgery that stopped me from dying and knew that god wasn’t something separate from humans. If god is not us, there is no god. Because if there was a god who made claimed to not makes mistakes, and they made such a mistake, they can’t actually be perfect. But if god is us, well we are only human. So the chance there would be flaws is acceptable. But if we are also god it means we have the power the alter those flaws for the better. We are god

For every action there is a reaction. 300 years ago if an advancement was made it was kept in small circles, these days if someone makes an advancement its common knowledge within 3 months globally. Therefore, our responsibility as a species needs to be exceptionally high, for every advancement what happens when you apply it to the whole population of the Earth? It doesn't matter if its biological, technical or social. Our freedoms will be our downfall, because everyone is racing to improve and nobody is racing to see the after effects.

Allow me to present my opinion my self. I respect your opinion, and respectfully answer back. My understanding of your use of the terms "play like a god" is: I have power over some thing or some human and I exercit that power. I agree with it, and allow me to expand this understanding with the statement that to play like a god(or to play like God) means that humans define what is good and what is bad. Example: God forbids something because it's bad, but because I redefine what is actually bad, I go against God and say that it is actually good. As I have understood your definition, I think it doesn't apply in all context and situations because God Himself says that the rich have to help the poor. Based on your definition and mine, I think that advancement in meddical field is great. We have that capacity and we use it. Though, I do not agree with CRISPR, Meat lab and other altering tehnologies because they have a flawed motivation behind. I think you question fits you video and this context, Just because I can, I shall make it happen?

@r4raced4doom2 The test is how we USE that intelligence. For example, if your father gave you a pocket knife as a gift, you can use it as a tool as it was intended. Or, you could turn around, and use that gift for killing animals and even people. Was the son justified in doing evil because he could? I don't think so. Thus, gifts such as our intelligence can be used for good, or evil. Never should people think because they can, they should.

I knew farmers in the 70's who buried bibles and guns in case it happened in their lifetimes. We never considered the possibility of bibles being changed, let alone being **_supernaturally changed!!!_** But that's exactly what has happened, and we have overwhelming proof too. Several prophecies besides this one have also been perfectly fulfilled that we previously misinterpreted, and the films in my playlist point them all out and show proof on many of the most important changes...there's thousands of them!* *God commanded us to ''prove all things'' but only the WHEAT obey this commandment because they love truth and the Holy Spirit leads them into all truth this way. Forget about the budget of space exploration, look at the American military budget 😂. To be fair, to some extent that's also just how a lot of advancements are made, like how F1 racing advancements eventually make it into normal cars, same with military tech (i.e. gps), hopefully it'll be the same with gene editing where it gets more and more accessible as the technology develops. Lastly, I think it's important not to get lobster syndrome: when you catch lobsters always put more than one in the bucket and they'll stop each other from climbing out. In the same way, progress is a process and doesn't happen homogeneously (everywhere at the same time at the same pace), and if we stop each other from doing better because we can't have it now as well, no one will (Ps. I also get that people can just be greedy, but I think that's another matter)
