Most artist follow the feeling of the music with lyrics. The music projects a specific mood and a "story" which is why it's awesome. The void of lyrics leave it open for them to interpret the art and relate it however they wish.

I find it awesome that he is playing all of this modern music on piano to I'm assuming (from the all gray hair crew) the older generation. It's really a testament that music is beautiful in all forms. They may not have listened to the original but this absolutely beautiful and there is no doubt they are enjoying it, whether or not they know the original.

The moment when 70 year olds discover that metal can be beautiful music: priceless....

Yup, it's a half-step down from the album, E-flat minor. Metallica had often performed it live a half-step lower (in their case by tuning the guitars down).

Yeah, I told them it was Metallica, and there were plenty of younger people at this show too, but didn't arrive as early and so weren't in the first two rows. Still, before the show was over they were all wanting more Metallica, it was great!

It would probably make me cry to hear this live on a good piano. So awesome. I love all of his stuff. His original stuff is even better! Metallica does lend itself well to this type of interpretation, though.

I actually think this version eclipses Scott's studio version of this track. The piano sounds "warmer" and I think his playing is more raw/emotional. Studio versions sometimes suck the life out of the performance.

These old folks have no clue what he's playing. They went to the retirement living room at 3 PM expecting to watch the Young and the Restless as usual on tv but that guy was there instead. BUT he does a quite amazing job. KUDOS!

Those people don't even understand what the song is. When my generation gets there, Metallica will be what we listen to, and we won't have a clue what's being played for us.

That's exactly what I thought while watching it. These old folks are probably not even aware that they are listening to Metallica. Had they known, they would probably not want to listen to it thinking it's a horrible piece of music ;)
