The first dancer is Uliana Lopatkina. Given that her daughter was born in 2002, this was probably in about 2005 or 2006. She was trained at the Vaganova Academy & danced with the Mariinsky from 1991 to 2017. She is world renowned for her swan, both lake & dying, & in the principal roles of La Bayadere & Legend of Love. And, for Josephine, she goes through a minimum of two pairs of custom made pointe shoes every performance. Check out her Dying Swan on You Tube. HANDS DOWN the BEST performance of this piece, EVER!

The movement is so good for baby’s vestibular development! It’s also very soothing for babies to be strapped to momma while she does what she did while they were in utero. So, it makes sense that the babies of ballerinas love the movement of ballet. I’ve seen the same happen with other types of dancers as well as runners, cleaning ladies, & even a baby with a boat captain for a momma. That baby was soooo fussy for momma’s 8 weeks of maternity leave. When she returned to work, baby boy did too, carried in a baby wrap. He was happy as a clam. The kiddos of professional cleaners I know could only sleep while their moms vacuumed while baby wearing. It’s all so fascinating to me!

What do you do if your baby is fussy? Some parents strap the baby into the car seat, put on soft music, and drive around. I imagine that holding a baby whilst in ballet class is just about the same experience for the little one. But the best part is there is no car seat. These babies are probably just chill because this is the best thing ever.

Sooo many memories of my daughter being backstage with me when she was little. She used to pose in tendu derrière for photos with her wrists crossed low in front because she saw me in rehearsals and performances of Swan Lake 🥰 She just turned 17, and the last two years, we’ve both been in Snow for Nutcracker. This weekend, we perform together in Coppélia (different roles). Sooo many special moments shared through dance!!!

I ended up on baby wrangling duty at work a few days ago for that exact reason. A very grumpy and jet lagged baby and her exhausted Mum came in to my work. I ended up holding baby and swaying from side to side while I sung lullabies to her. She was adorably entranced and went from being a grumbly baby to a happy, sleepy baby. Her Mum got a ten minute break and a sleepy baby, and I got cuddles, everyone was a winner.

Let me give you a little advice.... if you're gonna let your kids do ballet or gymnastics..... watch them like a hawk in department stores. I once took out an entire rack of super fancy little girl dresses because my mom turned her back for 20 seconds and it looked a lot like the gymnastics bars. My mom was mortified, dresses flying like 20 feet in the air in all directions. The sales people were just like *sigh, it happens all the time, don't worry about it. We keep telling them to get rid of those particular racks. (also, I am ADHD)

THE CENTAUR THING: Ok I found it! It is part of an art installation from 2022 called We walked the Earth by Uffe Isolotto at the Danish Art Pavillion. There is a story central to the exhibition about a family on centaurs that the it revolves around, all told through multidisciplinary art. There is an article about it in Juliet Art Magazine.

01:35 It's a hyperrealistic sculpture that was part of the art exhibit "We Walked The Earth" by the artist Uffe Isolotto. He basically creates walk-in art works that tell a story without words. There's no explicit story description though, so viewers have to piece it together themselves like a crime scene. It's really fascinating stuff if you're interested in that kind of thing. What's the relation to the video before? No idea lol, the only connection I can kinda see is that the centaur woman sculpture is mid birth, which you can't see in that picture. But that doesn't explain why you would put it behind a video of a pregnant person doing ballet 😅

If you tend to dance or sing or drive (or whatever) a lot while pregnant odds are your baby will be calmed by that activity after birth. If you're job is to talk with people all day your little one hears your voice and will likely want to hear you talk all the time once theyre born. My mom was a teacher and i still have a tendency to feel calm and sleepy around a bunch of noisy chatter! Lol

I´m not a dancer but I´m a mom and dancing like that with a big baby belly or the kid in the carrier IS amazing. And I´m sure they are in the carrier or on the arm, because that´s the place they behave. My kid always was the happiest when we were out and about and especially when it was in the carrier. So no, you baby wont ALWAYS behave, but it´s a baby, it doesn´t have to and you will find what works best for you.

I went on pointe too early and I am walking proof that it’s terribly dangerous and harmful. “Walking proof” is not just a pun; it’s a miracle that I can walk after everything I went through due to this. I was just thinking about this and thought of cautioning you against putting your child on pointe too early. I’m sure you know the dangers but, it’s something few people talk about from personal experience. I wasn’t going to say anything about this, until you posted this. New moms are often inundated with advice and corrections and horror stories - it’s not my intention nor my place to tell you how to raise your child or live or fear monger. I hope any parents who are reading this who have children in dance (or plan to) will simply understand this message is a caution sincerely from my heart. Not intended to criticize or disrespect or shame anyone. This is why I have not expounded on details about my experience. I don’t want to worry people about dance. If you want to know more about my experience with this, I’ll leave it up to you to decide and I am open to answering questions about this. This video was so wholesome and it’s really what ballet really is about = sharing a lifelong passion for dance with your children or someone you care about and the physical and emotional and mental strength that comes from being a dedicated dancer. Much love ❤️ ❤️‍🩹 ❤️‍🔥
