The Undertaker clears up the Hulk Hogan neck injury incident at Survivor Series | WWE

Спорт

The Undertaker looks back to his match with Hulk Hogan at the Survivor Series in 1991, where Hogan claimed to have suffered a neck injury after The Undertaker performed his signature Tombstone Piledriver on him. The Undertaker reveals that Hogan didn't seem to be totally truthful about the incident.

Completely off subject here but it's funny to think that people really thought wrestling was real. The homie Taker was literally running around with a special move that had like a 80 percent chance of permanently paralyzing someone and people thought (I guess?) that the people being Tombstoned were just really strong, strong enough to be fine after being dropped directly on their heads.

Everyone knew that Vince thought a lot of him and protected him because he was the babyface of the company. But everyone who worked with Hogan quickly realized that Hogan was all about Hogan. The number of clean pins on him can be read on 2 hands. He didn't lay down for anyone and he had zero interest in promoting and pushing young talent. I think the only wrestler from the 80s/90s with a bigger ego than Hogan was Warrior.

As soon as he entered the business he realized quickly how many guys were breaking and busting up their bodies for chicken feed money, and they didn't care as long as they got to be "one of the boys". Warrior didn't care at all about "being one of the boys" and rather than the business working him, he decided he was gonna work the business. And that's why he created a character that took him to the very top and earned him millions of dollars, so he could then pick and choose what he does from then on. In my view Warrior was probably the smartest pro-wrestler of all time.

@@fakename503 Amongst the MANY gimmicked wrestlers over the decades, I believe the argument can be made that The Undertaker may very well be the most kayfabe wrestler the business has seen. That is certainly the case in his era to be sure. ‘Taker protected the business in very profound ways…from his actions as the Montreal screw job was playing out (wrapping the hands and ready to put it down) to his spending years acting as the judge in the (in)famous “wrestlers court”, it certainly can’t be said that he didn’t “live the gimmick” and protect the business above all else. Just listen to how others in the business speak of him. He is spoken of with a level of respect and reverence usually reserved for the most elite of the all-time greats in the business. The way that he carried and conducted himself in, and especially out, of the ring had an incredibly large part in that, by nearly all accounts. Thanks for the comment, I couldn’t agree more and it made me look at his career from an entirely new perspective…I appreciate that. Be well, my friend.

Everyone is so preoccupied by how obviously he didn't hit his head during the initial drop that they don't notice the second half of the move. But that's moreso on how Ric Flair laid the chair down than anything Undertaker did. It was a no-fault accident if anything.

indeed. He did the same to MachoMan if you think about it. He saw that he was gaining momentum and may eclipse him so Wrestlemania IV and V were conjured up and that stopped MachoMan in his tracks. Overcame the Warrior by WrestleMania VII Buried Sid Justice by combining what he learned from the MachoMan and Warrior experience before he (Sid) had time to take off But Undertaker did not go via the Hogan route like Earthquake, so by the time they faced off (out of nowhere) Undertaker was already immensely popular. I hated brother love and yet I loved the Undertaker (that's how good he was from the moment he started) Having said all of that, I still believe we all owe it to Hogan for making wrestling what it is today

*To play devil's advocate here:* Hogan never said "Undertaker hurt me with the tombstone piledriver". Hogan said: "The tombstone messed up my neck." As in, the mere ACT of taking the bump from that move injured him. Hogan was 40 years old when he fought Undertaker, and hadn't taken any REAL bumps like that in the ring for quite some time. He was getting fragile. Also of note: *Your neck can be damaged in one of TWO ways from a tombstone piledriver:* 1.) From impact with your head hitting the canvas (didn't happen in Hogan's case). 2.) From neck EXTENSION. Sort of like a hangman's noose. Your shoulders stop but your head and neck keep DROPPING.

I have to say that The Undertaker was always about respect and knowing how in the business on how to pass the torch and about getting it. He learned from the best from how I hear it from past interviews. He’s one of the many few traditional wrestlers who live by the code. I enjoy watching every interview that he’s in. And I remember him best as Mean Mark in the late 80’s.. My eyes were on him when he visited my hometown in Philadelphia at the Civic Center.. He’s the man.

I have been a wrestling fan since the 60's and I never believed it to be real but in spite of that you find yourself hating the bad guys and loving the good guys and you rarely ever had info about any of the Wrestlers private REAL lives. With that said, I find it amazing that many of the guys you loved were not worthy and many that you hated were guys you would love if you knew the real guy. By all, I know from things I have learned in recent years, Mean Mark, Undertaker, Mark Calloway is the most loveable of all. In a business like that to have so many actually respect you and come to you for advice, never have a bad word for you and he himself be so humble says a lot about a man's character.

Honestly, Hogan's wrestling legacy will always be a huge part of wrestling history, but his own ego will definitely tarnish it. He helped save WCW with the NWO storyline, but his refusal to put people over cleanly ended up hurting him a lot in the long run. He buried a lot of upcoming talent that would have been the future of wrestling. He's his own worst enemy. Taker, however, will be remembered as the guy who was loyal, who had no issues putting guys over for the good of the company, fricking was physically broken and still went out and gave it his all, and despite only having 7 title reigns, still deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling. That's the type of man he is and how much of a legend he is.
