I played the games in chronological order, so when I got to 5 I was really happy to see Dolce Kamiya again in Haruka's plot.

Kiryu definitely seems like the kind of guy to take phone girls to hotels and just talk to them

My only issue is the whispery intro to each section. That's great for spooky stuff. Kinda just annoying here. Other than that, was pretty awesome

It could also be that after he pulls out the bat, his schizophrenia really kicks in and he starts imagining thugs and homeless as ruthless bandits and huge monsters.

I love how in Y7 it seems to be implied that Nugget ascended and became a god that’s worshipped by a cult. Love the Yakuza games.

One more thing about Kashiwagi not being dead is in the Guns of the Forefathers summon in RGG7 : You can notice after the shooting that unlike Dojima, Kazama and Shimano, Kashiwagi and Daigo's legs aren't obscured by smoke, which could be a reference a japanese Yūreis and thus another piece of evidence that Kashiwagi didn't die.

Considering ghosts are cannon in Yakuza, whats to say that Lau Ka Long isn't a spirit in Yokohama. Kashiwagi just simply must've survived based on luck that none of the bullets hit major arteries.

Real talk: Why is it that everyone that shoots Kiryu ALWAYS seems to shoot him in the exact same part of his gut? ... Like, at this point, someone's gonna do an X-ray on him, and there's gonna be a conga line of various handgun rounds all in a line in the same spot.

Since supernatural beings apparently are canon to Yakuza, i'd say that Kiryu being a dragon in a human body is not far fetched lol

It’s kind of hilarious that right after this video came out, they did announce a western release of Ishin, and they also ported Judgement/Lost Judgement to PC. I’m just gonna credit you for it 😅 Thanks for making it happen!

Regarding the events of the end of yakuza 5 where Haruka appears out of nowhere and without any explanation to save Kiryu at the right time, I think that the moment the screen goes dark for the first time is when Kiryu loses consciousness (doesn't mean he died) and that Haruka's appearance was a product of a hallucination, now, how did he survive? probably a random civilian saw him there and called an ambulance

The fact that the creator of the series takes Kiryu's virginity, and his refusal to hit women (to the point of refusing to let him being in freaking Tekken) is awesome.

Considering the women in Tekken are way more combat ready than most women in Yakuza/Judgment i think he's able to join the roster. It's not like he would be fighting helpless women or anything since you've got an insane snakegirl in with multiple stances to fuck you up with

I actually know why Majima's eyepatch is on the other eye in the movie! Majima's Good Eye is actually a weak/blind eye for the actor. So instead of making the actor be unable to see while filming they just switched which side the eyepatch was on.

this video is a liiittle old but i still find the whole "kiryu dies at the end of 5" thing really funny; i genuinely believe they could have meant to end the series there, because if you look closely, there's even only one pair of footprints in the snow either way, the fact that kiryu and a handful of other characters can survive 38749395 gunshot wounds but others keel over in 10 seconds after being stabbed is an almost charming inconsistency imo

59:48 In Yakuza 7 there is a substory where a ghost of Ichiban's girl friend talks to him like they haven't seen each other in years. In the end of the substory it turns out that she was his girlfriend who died in some kind of incident and at the end Ichiban remembered everything.

The "walking black NPC only in Yakuza 3" is real - Yakuza 3 is the only game to feature black pedestrians, specifically in Kamurocho. It's most apparent the first time you go to Kamurocho in that game. Really makes it feel like the city has changed.

Regarding the final point, I never had a problem believing Haruka could find Kiryu. She's been on walks with him. She must know he physically can't leave Kamurocho without a taxi, and while it's not a guarantee he'll be there he's trapped on that map about 80% of the time so it's a safe enough bet he'll be there. If she were resolved to go find him she wouldn't have too much of an area to search.

I feel like akiyama or maybe date could have told her he went to tojo clan hq and she just found him from there. I doubt he was able to walk very far before he passed out

41:46 The issues with Kiwami's completion list are broad, but mostly stem from a lot of it being copy-pasted from 0. You need to get 100/107 weapons in the game, three of which are locked behind a ridiculous amount of shogi grinding and the rest include gambling and coliseum grinding past even the actual completion list requirements for both of those activities. It's easily the thing that game's list is most infamous for.

There also is a substory in Yakuza 4 about a fake akiyama, which instead of beating him up akiyama and Hana do a lil trolling and make him think there are assassins about to kill him and that he has to leave the country

The kiryu never kills always makes me laugh. I mean in 0 there is that entire car chase where he's shooting dudes. He even takes out a chopper with a handgun. I guess technically the explosion probably killed that guy so kiryu still is innocent. Edit 1: I love the ragdolling in kiwami 2. Haven't played judgement or 6 yet but the first time I punched a guy and he flew 30 feet I had to pause the game I was laughing so hard. I had just gotten done with 0 and kiwami which were the first times I played a yakuza game. Also the scene in the movie where majima in peaking around the corner with his eye patch eye gets me every time.

funnily about the Kiwami completion list, I was doing Zero's list with all the mini-games like blackjack and japanese card games. Then when I started doing Kiwami's list, I realized the requirements were much higher also want to mention the part talking about Ichiban's mental health and a "girlfriend" which may be talking about this one substory in 7 where Ichi meets a girl who's revealed to be a spirit or maybe a hallucination of someone that he saved before going to jail

Also if I had to add something to the (already massive) iceberg, it would be what Majima’s left eye looks like. When he wears shades in Y0, you can get a glimpse of it, which is surprisingly without any visible scarring and is just a slightly weird-looking closed eye. Modders have given us a better look at what it looks like since Y0’s release.

I'm surprised the kappa in yakuza 4 didn't show up. It genuinely spooked me and lives rent free in my head since then

0 and Kiwami comics are still available to read if own a steam version of those games. It’s located in “EXTRAS” folder next to “Media” folder where game files are.

I have a theory about the hangman being one of the mister shakedowns from yakuza 0 who went insane in his quest to be the strongest

Fun fact, the yakuza movies were made by Miike who appears in No More Heros 3 (Travis and Bishop mention the yakuza movie in a cutscene), and in Persona 5 Strikers, Makoto mentions a movie called "like a yakuza", meaning the Yakuza games are movies in the Persona universe, and that No More Heros might share the same universe as persona. Which Jesus Christ that would be a awesome crossover

Pretty sure for the Mr Shakedown extermination, when doing premium adventure, etc, a common strategy is to get the Kiryu completion reward that increases money from Mr. Shakedown, and just keep farming him over and over and over again for money.

This was an excellent Yakuza Iceberg, good job!!! I would also add some things; if I'm not mistaken, in the RGG office they had or have in display a statue Sakamoto Ryoma from Yakuza Ishin, you can look it up and find a really cool pic of Kuze's actor possing with it! Also there were some pachinko yakuza games, the ones that I know of are a 4 and Dead Souls ones and the other is a sort of continuation of Yakuza Kenzan, all I Know about the last one is that it had a plot envolving Miyamoto Musashi (KIryu) going through a sort of heaven and fighting along some Gods ( I might be not remembering it well though) and for every jackpot or win you would get a music video and the story would continue, there are some songs available here on youtube, my personal favorite is "Dawn"! Thank you for the effort you put in this!

When I completed y5, I realy had thoughts that Kiryu canonically dies , according to cutscene after the titles and that is next part is Yakuza 0. And i was surprised that this was at the bottom of iceberg. Also iceberg creator forgot about sewer monster creature at the end of Saejima's substory and appears also at one chase in climax battles in y4

The entire ghost sub story is what was cursed for me tbh. I watched the tape but after that the Substory bugged out and I could never get it to continue even tho I followed the steps exactly. That’s the only reason I’ve never finished Kiwami 2 100%

Another tidbit for Today Is A Diamond is that the song is also about Yumi if you listen to the full version. Dead Souls is canon refers to Gary's Boot Camp showing up in a mainline game, forgot which. Ichiban's mental health was broken after his GF's death probably refers to the substory with the ghost girl in white that Ichi goes on a date with. There are multiple entries here that you say are just gags but have information out. I'll have to come back for a rewatch to point the ones early on, later.

Regarding the yakuza comics from 0 and kiwami: in the game files on PC, chapter 1 and 2 of the yakuza: the dragon's path comics (which retell parts of yakuza 0-5) can be found in the extra's folder in the files for yakuza 0, and chapters 3 and 4 in the same place but in the files for yakuza kiwami edit since I forgot to put this: these comics were released as some sort of commercial-type of thing to help hype up the then upcoming release of yakuza 6

From what I hear dead souls is either disliked by the fandom or forgotten, honestly I wanna try it out since it doesn't seem to be a bad game, also the OST is one of the best in the series

Why is no one talking abt the creepy computer voice?

The thing about "kiryu never kills" is that it's completely wrong, kiryu HAS killed people, he just doesn't murder innocent people (like the guy from the empty lot from Y0). For example in Y0 he shoots people while in a car, in YK2 he throws assassins off of 2 moving trucks, in Y5 Kiryu and Akiyama kick two guys which causes them to shoot each other to death, and in YK1 Kiryu uses a waiter as a human sheild and ghere are more examplesof kiryu directly killing or indirectly killing. Of course people say it as a meme but there are definitely people that think its the case when it really isn't.

Great video, but that whispery-TTS title stuff really brought the whole viewing experience down. I suggest you stick to your own voice since yours is great.

Fun fact about the i peacocked your mom part, the text afterwards saying something got "lost in translation" is in reference to how that line is from the og localization and isn't super faithful to the original script. The last 3 month I played 0-7 in anticipation for 8 and then boom you reminded me that Judgment is part of the series

Just a note about waiting 3 years for yakuza 5 after dead souls flopped, not only was it a long wait but it was pretty hopeless at the time because there was absolutely no push or sign of Sega wanting to localize it, as you said it was only after sony injected a shitload of funding for the port - but yeah during the 3 years there was no guarantee and I think a lot of people lost hope for a western release kinda like how we never thought we'd get Ishin..

Sooo about the Yakuza 5 ending. In a way it makes sense as to why Kiryu would have died, mainly from the entire series perspective. I feel like Nagoshi did that on purpose because of how he felt where the series was going, let's be honest tho. Despite Yakuza games being mainstream in Japan, it wasn't in the West until 0's release on PC. Nagoshi wanted his series to get that recognition what so ever. Like after 2, 3 wasn't perfect, 4 was controversial thanks to rubber bullets and Dead Souls nearly killing the franchise. I think in Nagoshi's mind he really thought that 5 would be the last in the series so that's why he has this scene where Kiryu is about to die (or dies when the screen fades out), until he sees Haruka. So what I'm tryna say is. He had given up on Yakuza at that point. But then he didn't stop so. Rest is history.

OOh, showtime, so the Ichiban's mental health because of dead gf is popularized thanks to one substory in Y7, Ichiban finds the girl he saved at the beginning of Y7 in Yokohama and they go on a date, everyone calling him crazy throughout it, they go to a restaurant where the girl doesnt touch any food, a photo booth, and finally the park next to the ocean, where Ichiban is confronted by a cop who thinks Ichi's drunk and needs to spend the night at the station, even though Ichiban hadnt been drinking. The twist reveals that Ichiban never actually went on a date with anyone, but he was just hallucinating, so what if this was caused by a prior relationship where Ichiban's gf died and he never got over it?
