@@colorado_koolaid2625 I don't own the Aldebaran 50 but I do own the 30 and the new 100 Met. The casting distance is really close but you can put the Met. on a number of rods and it balances out better than the Aldebaran and the drag on the Met. is much stronger.

Thanks! The Metanium 100 would handle it ok with light line and a ultra light rod. Shallow edition may be better for that.

Hey got a quick question. I'm getting ready to order a jdm reel from digitaka, I'm looking at the 2022 Shimano Aldebaran bfs model. My question is does it have clicking drag? If not what bfs reel would you recommend with a clicking drag? I'm a Shimano guy but would consider a daiwa as well. Thanks for any help, love the videos buddy

Brass for the 100 models, the Shallow Edition gets aluminum gears.

I can confirm that the JDM 2020 Met B has brass gears. I’m confused why Shimano came out with a 100 size Met 23 when the JDM version of the 2020 Met B already had a 100 size spool. Let us know, if the spools are interchangeable.

According to the official Shimano website and Digitaka, the line capacity JDM MET 20 is identical to MET 100 23. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Regardless, RX Angler should confirm, if spools are interchangeable.

If you're using braid, Definitely use backing. The spool holds plenty of line.

Wish Shimano would come out with a new alderberan (not bfs). The 2020 JDM met has brass gears and is a 100 size spool.

@@cali_cal I love them both for different reasons. The 21 JDM Zillion SV TW 1000H is just soooo easy to dial in, it's smooth, clicker drag. It's great for beginners to experts but with the smaller handle and Aluminum gearing and it's light weight, I only use it for 1/4-3/8 oz. bait like topwater, sm. Spinnerbaits, etc. The 23' Met. Xg casts better than the 2020 Met. It casts a little further than the Zillion and has Brass gears so I use that for 3/8-1/2 oz. baits. It has a stronger drag and can handle the bigger fish and lures better. Actually, I like the 22' Met. Shallow better than the Zillion and the Zillion (For Bass), I'd still pick the 23' Met. All 3 are excellent reels.

I fish primarily for redfish and occasionally a trout or two. I own a metanium and two cal. conquest bfs but stripped a gear on one. If you were to pair the ultimate Shimano baitcaster reel with rod for redfish what setup would you buy. Thanks

Depends on what bait/lures you use. For me personally, I would do the Shimano Metanium 100 and Old 18 Suppressor Light action. This set up is still lightweight so I can use finesse lures if I need to.

The only thing that bothers me about the 2023 Metanium is the lack of DC. How can it be the most versatile reel without DC? However, the Metanium was never developed to be a casting reel. What a tough purchasing decision.

What do you think about this reel or the Aldebaran bfs which one is the best

I still don’t see the real difference between this and the 2020 metanium. So just a different spool? It was cool seeing all three reels next to each other, but didn’t really get much from the video. I’ll watch it again to see if I missed anything. Not hating, just wish there was more info.

@RXAngler - Just got the Met 100 JDM and I’m less than impressed throwing 3/8th to 3/4 oz. My 15 Met DC casts significantly better and I’m kind of surprised. I may need to grab a Met JDM 70.

I think the spools for all three are 34mm/19mm... Just all different line capacities... The new 100 is just the same as the US model. The original 2020 JDM model is like a semi-shallow, and the Shallow Edition is an actual shallow spool.

Would you by the Metanium XG if they do not have HG…. Not too sure how big a difference

84mm on the regular and Hg version, 90mm on the XG. I can't stand the 84mm handles so I'm getting the XG just for that reason. The US version's always have bigger handles.

Spooled 16lb fluoro. Was doing back to back casts between met and daiwa tatula 100 spooled with power pro 30lb + leader Maybe I should put braid on the met

@@silenzioklze Are you speaking of the 23' 100 JDM Met.? If you are, you just saved me $280 bucks. I was going to buy it but I already have the 2020 US Met HG and the JDM Met shallow. I'm happy with those. I did have to buy a Stock 90mm handle for the JDM Met. Shallow because I purchased the HG and it only had an 84mm handle. What is it with the Japanese and small handles???

​@@philipfalco7304yes the met 100 2023 HG as shown in this video. Handle knobs have a weird play as if they are loose, so when you crank, you feel it. Also when I crank my spinner or chatterbait, the reel feels as if I go through some butter, it's smooth yes but it feels dull for me. I am thinking that this has to do with the fact that I spooled fluoro. Normally I spool braid plus leader, so with braid, there is that crank feel, kind of like a resistance feel when you reel.

No such thing as too many reels.

If only it has a drag clicker. I dont understand why shimano dont implement it on this line up. I love the aldebaran bfs and cq line up but the bantam and metanium is a great looking reel probably one of the great looking reel out there but no drag clicker. A let down for me.

I think they don't add it because it reduces drag power possibly. I added clicker to 3 reels and it did that . Maybe that's why the bfs ones have a lighter drag . My CQ 201 has clicker but does not feel like it's true drag rating

Was a big fan and long time customer of Digitaka, unfortunately they now charge additional unexplained fees to customers in my part of the world, they’re now so much more expensive and no longer an option.

nice but underwhelming ... as u said, minute differences ... except for brass gears and heavier... Shimano has a stockpile of tweaks and 'new' innovations accumulated but slowly released over Many models\years

I think some of the commenters have it flip flopped. The 2020 Met B JDM had aluminum gearing while the USDM has brass gearing. I specifically remembered waiting to buy the USDM model for that reason. The 100 size looks like it would be really comfortable in handle especially with the wider spool. I always thought the 2020 Met B spool was a little narrow for my fat thumb but this looks legit.

You have it flipped. All 2020 and 2023 Metaniums have brass gearing (hence they are all the same weight). The only differences between the 2020 JDM and USDM is one is the JDM is a 70 size spool and the USDM is a 150 size spool and bigger knobs. Only the 2022 Shallow edition has aluminum gearing (10g lighter). If that was true, then when I tore into my JDM metanium to add worm gearing bearings, they must have accidentally put brass gears in🤪 So for spool sizing goes, JDM Shallow Edition -> 2020 JDM --> 2023 JDM 100 --> 2020 USDM You may have mixed it up with the Daiwa Zillion which has brass in the USDM and alloy in the JDM

what @MrCoobleng mentions here...the JDM Met20 is a 100 size spool vs US version. it definitely appears to be the same reel with different spool. also, the JDM Met20 has aluminum gears putting it at 6.1 oz vs the 6.7 US version thank to brass gears and larger handle. unfortunately, SLP works steez and zillion reels have ruined my interest in shimano reelsl; my JDM Met20 collects dust currently.

I have serviced my JDM MET 20, and it has brass gears. The weight reduction must be do to the smaller handle and knobs. I went on the Shimano website and the Met23 mgl has the exact line capacity as the JDM MET20 😂. Shimano is trying to pull a stunt here.

You're wrong about the gear material. My JDM Met 20 has a brass main gear and pinion.

Very misleading and a bit disappointing in this video. The 2020 metanium has brass gears, core solid body and a 70 spool for the jdm model. The only difference in this “new reel” is the increase to a 100 spool

​@@skeet6189yes, but I don't dunk my reels. Secondly, the magnesium is coated. I'm in the water 2 times a week with magnesium reels. No issue over the years I've owned them. I'd suggest you do a better job keep your reels out of the water or a better job with your maintenance routine.
