my mom had a sulcata she found in Los Angeles in the early 80's . SHe fed it fruit and vegs daily, hibernated it and she was so social. she would sunbathe with me and sit next to my towel. When my mom died, my sister took her and she dug up the yard and foundation but she's still going strong.

What I really like about you +Kamp Kenan is that you're not afraid you admit errors and mistakes that you've made and learned from, for example the ground collapsing on a tortoise or one killing the other. It's really refreshing to see a professional and public figure such as yourself admit to those things and not pretend to be perfect, so long as you and all of us can learn from those misfortunes. Regards

I'm so glad I saw this. I have a sulcata and he's finally starting to grow when I got him he was a sick tiny baby with bubbles in his nose I've had him two years now and he's finally getting an appetite and growing quicker! Was going to build him an outdoor shelter for summer. Awesome ideas from this and learned more things he can eat!

With the proper care and dedication u totally could. They’ll totally be fine in weather 60 and above when its still a bit sunny out. I live in Portland and my hatching just lives indoors with heat and UV for when weather is too bad for monitored outside time. There’s also someone close by me with an adult sulcata living in their front yard with a little heated house but when the weather is bad she obviously stays inside.

There’s one next-door to my daughters house and he has one borough and he eats all the grasses in the backyard and his name is Darwin and he’s so friendly. We are in California Southern California and he hibernates in a large dog house. I have a California desert tortoise and they are much much smaller only 10 inches on the shell. They don’t interact with humans the way that Sulcatas do though.

This is the first time I am watching this guy Kamp Kenan and instantly, I like him. I find he is a man of honesty and integrity. Unlike other salesmen, all they care about is profits, but this honorable gent is one of the rare ones. He knows the type of turtle he sells is not suitable in the cold climate and he alerts his northern customers they shouldn't get the creature if they live up north, and he also warns folks about the long-term cost of rising a Sulcata Tortoise. I tell you, I can't remember when I have come across a decent fella like Mr. Kenan in my 50 years living in New York City! All the best to you, friend.

@@lizlopez7822 same for me as well I was obsessed with reptiles and lizards when I was younger because they look like dinosaurs and my mum made me research them online for ages and she would question me as well on them as she researched them as well to make sure I was doing it. When I was 13 I got my two bearded dragons Hagrid & Flare and also two leopard geckos as well :) my uncle ended up having my leapord geckos for his children which lived a long healthy life they remembered me when I would visit him and would happily sit on my shoulder and come flying out of their den when I went near their vivarium and opened it, Flying out straight up my arm onto my chest I miss them little cuties 😭😭 I'm now 26 got my own place and am looking into getting some more Gecko's, beardies and snakes soon as I want to breed them as no local breeders here as I live in UK pets at home are kind of like Petco but not as bad because of our laws. I'm extremely grateful for my parents making me research them makes you realise how precious and delicate they are people seem to forget they are a living animal and not just some play thing or toy! Very nice video. You mentioned that you do not recommend keeping sulcatas North of North Carolina because it gets so cold and they are harder to keep. I live in North East Oklahoma and that is very true. I have built my Sulcata his own building that he lives in during the winter time. Housing these things in Norther climates can really raise the cost of taking care of a Sulcata.

Thanks so much for these amazing videos, Id like to add that you are so spot on about chain link fence!! Homer my Sulcata, ripped apart a chain link fence and in doing so he injured himself, resulting in a vet visit, and i had to clip off his injured toe nail, i replaced all the chain link with wood, he can't see the other side and i think that helps him from trying to get though.

Awesome video Kenan, I'm glad you made a video of this sort. It will definitely reach the larger community as a whole - people tend to ask me many times for a sulcata care video, but my audience is no where near as large. Very well done. If you're at all curious, check out my outdoor sulcata setups in any of my recent videos; will show you a taste of just regular old backyard living. I've also got a video of my 100lb adult male drinking water directly out of a pool my running hose was creating (I flood parts of the yard often so that they could do this). My herd is made up of 2 males, one of which is an ivory, and 2 females. I remember back when you had less subs than me, haha - and it's damn well great to see one of my inspirations growing at the rate you are. Keep up the great work bro, the hobby needs more individuals like yourself. Thanks again boss.

Hi! Loved this guide, VERY informative. My wife and I used to have desert tortoises, but after they went into torpor one year, we just never saw them again. Now, by pure chance, we've ended up with a free Sulcata and we've been researching how to care for it! One thing I can't seem to find is information on proper bedding. We have a wooden "Tortoise House" that we keep indoors now that it's getting cooler outside, and we've been lining the bottom with dried grass clippings. Should we be adding soil, and how deep should we be making that bedding?

I can't think of any animal that shouldn't have access to fresh water. Many animals should only have a shallow water dish to prevent drowning, but all of them should have some access to water and it's always better to have water than not, even if they don't normally use it. Purposefully excluding water is a bizarre (not to mention dangerous to the animal) recommendation.

Hi Kenen, my great uncle just passed and he left me with 4 radiated tortoise 2 years old. I don't know too much about them are they a semi arid tortoise ? ( i also saw your video about your 2 radiates) I feed them romaine lettuce and they seem to love it, I also have bent grass in my garden but i dont let them out because there are wild cats in the neighborhood, i keep them indoor with a uvb light. I also can't seem to sex them perhaps they are too young? If you could make a video about juvenile radiates I would greatly appreciate it! Love your videos man keep up the good work!
