The Ultimate Speed Puzzling Challenge | Trying to reach the speed of world's fastest speed puzzlers

Ойын-сауық

PPM, better know as Pieces Per Minute, is my favorite metric as a speed puzzler. So let's see if I can reach the PPM of 20 with a smaller jigsaw puzzle. That would be the speed of the fastest puzzlers in World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships!

Love this channel, youre approaching it in such an analytical manner which is exactly how I like it 😊

I appreciate your comment. 🤩 I always wonder if my approach is boring or interesting. I guess it depends on a person. But that’s definitely what I do and will deliver in my videos!

Oh no so close! I really like your idea of speed puzzling with smaller puzzles. 500 pieces usually take me at least 2 hours and it is tiring thinking of doing that while trying to race and keep up the pace the whole time. But doing 100-300 pieces and keeping speed up seems much more doable. Then I can build up piece count once I'm more used to going fast for longer and longer.

You are right. That’s the way to do it! 🔥 I have the same issue that not only my puzzling and ”fine motor” skills are not yet up to that speed with bigger puzzles but I cannot keep my mind to it. I literally forget that I was supposed to speed race with any bigger puzzles. So it’s almost like teaching your mind and body that this is how it’s supposed to feel like!

Wow, well done Emilia!! 😍 I love smaller puzzles so I'll definitely try this method - but not 20 ppm!! 🤣 I think I'll try to aim for about 8 ppm... Just so that I could finally get that 500 piece puzzle done in under 90 minutes! 🤪

Ohhhh that’s a great goal. And to be honest, I think this puzzle is currently the only one I can reach this speed with. I will need to try another 100 piece puzzle before I can add any more pieces. 😁

Thanks! And yeah, that was stress 🤣 I also ”sing” like that when nurses take my lab tests. Calms me down!

Ooo, you were certainly wired up there! I do wonder if PPM depends on the complexity of the image. I would imagine that a busy image would take longer than a simpler image with less going on. I haven't tried to calculate my PPM yet but perhaps I will when I have a small piece count jigsaw to hand. Look forward to your next video.

Yeah absolutely. That’s why I still need to do more 100 pieces puzzles, this one was pretty easy! But for the speed practise it’s important to practise with easiest first for max speed so yout mind and body will get the feeling of that speed :) My PPM with 1000 pieces puzzles is under like 30% of this 🤣 However I must say that I’m best with busy images and not too good with simpler ones!

Great video. You almost had it at 5 minutes. I too have been speed practicing with small piece counts. I find it does help rather than just starting to practice with 500 pieces. I'm certain I wouldn't be able to complete 100 pieces in 5 minutes but I'll keep practicing and maybe one day I will.

Thank you! Start small and build from there is my tactic! I cannot believe that just four months ago I could barely even do 56 piece in 5mins. Btw I got your message, I would be interested. I haven’t had time to answer and my brain is processing so slow 🤣

Hahaha your dog is going to “either pee on it or eat it”. To entertain my dog I would put her toys in boxes and she would have to rip the box open to get them out. This is a free enrichment for them. You actually have to train it in steps as if you just put it in a box and close it they don’t know the object still exists sometimes

Thanks for the advise! We have had all kinds of activities like treats hidden in an open box with toys and magazines but we haven’t tried out this one yet!

I have not speed puzzled any 1000 piece puzzles for six months I think but one I did last May my time was 2h 42mins. That’s like PPM of 6 😄

Wow! You were so so so close! Either way, great time! To be honest, you've just inspired me to try some "smaller" puzzles as well ☺. I think I'll buy a few and try to practice speed-puzzling on them. It would be cool to reach that 20 ppm... I wonder what my ppm is 🤔I definitely need to check that... I really enjoyed your video, Emilia! It's so cool you didn't make any time-lapses, but puzzled in real time 👍 Marta (from @marta.puzzles)

Awesome! I need to buy more small puzzles to see if I can do them this fast too. Thank you so much for your comment. :) I love PPM because it’s easier to compare different size puzzles and development with that!
