Theirs is nothing wrong with scene music and wish and hope for clean better ones not stereotypical like and similar death metal elements and deathcore
“Don’t tell my boss I use Chat GPT” as the title of a zany metalcore song will be my contribution to the scene in 2023!

Really like the sponsor being some art rather than some generic product. Nice move Finn. More of this please
If you ever think “wow, this is so bad. There’s no way anyone thought this would become popular”, just remember that Romance On A Rocketship was signed to Island Def Jam Records, who also signed artists like Fall Out Boy, Frank Ocean, Hanson, Shania Twain, Sum 41 and Saliva. People genuinely believed they were gonna break out into the mainstream.
Metro station shake it is a certified Hood classic in the Midwest
The seriousness when he says "Gene Hoglans Balls" is untouchable 😂
Sweet! The first band sponsor! More exposure, thanks finn! Thanks gold souls! I get a ton of my new music, old or new, from pretty much finn. And a friend at work. I didn't have a computer growing up.
Forever the sickest kids first album is one of my favorite scene era releases. Interesting song writing and super slick production. Still holds up imo!
fun fact, the dude from Romance on a Rocketship was in a band called Here I Come Falling and also the band Agraceful before starting this solo project and it's nothing like this.

Thanks for being the best scene kid archaeologist in the field! *Finn chisels rainbow raccoon hair extension fossil out of ancient hot topic limestone
Cash Cash was a scene band who surpassed the scene by wisely deciding to stop making scene music, and become DJs. They ended up having a massive hit song with Bebe Rexha, and produced songs for A-list pop stars such as Pink. Now they’re a relevant festival EDM band. All that growth for a band that started by playing Cobra Starship type music.

gotta respect Cash Cash for their progress in the music world

Funnily enough, Cobra Starship kinda went down that route as well. Their 4th album was a lot more mainstream than their earlier material.
The early to mid 2000's was such a weird and experimental time for music. I can't be the first person to have this idea, but I've never heard anyone mention it, I think it had a lot to do with the increased commercial availability and decreasing cost of music production software and equipment. If you were 16 and had a part time job, you and your friends could go in and for a couple hundred bucks get a DAW and an interface and just go down some weird rabbit holes. There's definitely an ambient musique concrete grindcore band I was involved in floating around the internet featuring a box fan on vocals.

I’ve had this exact thought before and I agree, the increased availability of DAWs definitely played a significant role
The people I knew who were into crunkcore definitely partied, but not with hot women, more like desperate 15 and 16 year olds who wanted drugs.

I think the F word duct tape on the guitar balances out the "I swear to god mate".
Loving the band sponsors. What a great way to find new music
The fucking Come To Brazil comment really got me hahahahaha

The funniest thing about the iconic attack attack video is that it's the wrong guy
Who else could it be but Finn to make my day again with his witty commentary?
Good video man!
That was intense. And mildly heartbreaking
No lie for Make Me Famous the song "Earth" actually slaps, it's still on my gym playlist to this day
the fucking lyrics to skin & bones "hush your lips, im about to speak, if i talk real slow do ya think you can keep up with me" incel type rizz lmao
I was rocking out to those first hollywood undead songs, without really understanding what they mean, I loved it (I'm not native english)
I was very happy the second you mentioned Capture The Crown. I wasn’t looking at the screen but I was hoping they were the band you were leading up to. Good shit, Finn
There used to be a venu in Evansville Indiana called Boney Junes that closed down in 2012. Notable bands that performed were Askikg Alexandria, Memphis May Fire, Hawthorn Heights, August Burns Red, Black Veil Brides, and the list goes on. I grew up about 40 minutes north of here. You are correct it’s a very small city in South West Indiana. Scene music was very popular in this area back then.
The fact that I had almost every artist on my iPod back in highschool is so unfortunate
So glad attack attack is playing shows again and brought traitors with them for their last little tour!

I saw then perform a few weeks ago. They were pretty solid too. Belmont definitely took the show though!
I legit thought design the skyline was victory records punking us at the time. Now, I realize we didn't know the gem we had in front of us.
Hey Shorty, welcome to Account Executive World!
Holy shit Finn, I can't believe that you remember Romance on a Rocketship. I went to high school with one of the guys who was the original members and primary songwriter for The Maine. He's now in this badass shoegaze band now called Holy Fawn. We don't have much good local shit here in AZ so everything we get is like a needle in a haystack. They just got done touring with Thrice a couple days ago 😊 makes me so fucking happy to see someone I know really earn the recognition they deserve

From scene to shoegaze, interesting.
Proud to say I’ve probably been to the Walmart where the Dot Dot Curve music video was filmed. Everything about that video made perfect sense to me.
6:04 I can't hate too much on that. One of James Hetfield's most iconic guitars is a white explorer to which he added a strip of masking tape that he wrote 'EET FUK' on. Also the fretboard inlays on that guitar are shaped like hands giving the finger, haha. I love Metallica.
Good video idea homie
The Romance on a Rocketship guy’s hair just made me laugh cry at work, thanks Finn!
Still remember that one time i was listening to Make Me Famous while my old ass uncle was visiting and he looked at my way with such disappointment I totally understand now 😂😂😂😂
Keep the vids coming
I managed to escape Evansville, IN in 2001 to go to college and never looked back... but I am a little sad that I missed the Crunkcore scene there.
I'm so glad you talked about jeffee stars music career, I found out about him through his hair song in my scene days 😭
I work part-time at a dive bar in Minnesota. The Midwest Scene Kid plaid shorts fit is still very much worn by some of my 30-year-old late night regulars. They get mad at me when they play that horrible scene Soulja Boy cover on Touch Tunes at full volume 30 minutes before bar close and I skip it.
@UnhumanNewman
Жыл бұрын
Somewhat related, I was drunk at a bar one night and put a $20 into the Touch Tunes and selected nothing but A7X and Atreyu. After one song the bar shut it off and switched to a regular playlist. At the time I was devastated but too embarrassed to say anything. Now I want to thank the person who pulled the plug because I might have become the first person to die of cringe if it did play.

@@UnhumanNewmanI would have let A7X and Atreyu play haha. It’s just the screamo cover of Soulja Boy… it’s grating at the end of a bartending shift.

A couple of the bartenders at my regular bar are ex-emo girls and we used to have 'Taking Back Sundays' where we would hang out on Sunday morning and just blast emo music in the bar and drink mimosas lol
Surrounded by Silence is the equivalent to 10 different Hot Topics playing their in-store playlist simultaneously in the same location.
That's just about her Tuesday at the Evansville Walmart lol. And can confirm, I wore plaid shorts and neon scene shirts and am in Indiana 😂
Hi Finn. Requesting an iceberg video on early 2000s mathcore. Looking back the shaky jerky peacock haired vocalists filmed on handheld cameras is possibly the most awkward phase in metal music history.
Gold Souls Walk The Other Way sounds like Avenged circa 2004 meets Architects
The great thing about the Stick Stickly video. They hit almost every Metalcore music video stereotype in one video. Running in place, playing in a dessert/abandoned building, random pretty girl in a white dress. Then of course accidentally invented Crab stance at the time 😂 only thing that was missing was raining inside the woods/field/warehouse God Attack Attack! Was great
These songs just became the soundtrack to my summer. No regrets.
Neon pop punk branch full video, we need it Finn!
16:57 thats why I love music, people with no idea on how to make it make music and throwing out the rule booking doing what they think is cool. I live to see artists like that being creative doing what they could with what they have.
scene music was so all over the place cause there was crabcore, deathcore, but also 3Oh!3, Never Shout Never and Millionares
“Spritz me with a hose mate” 🤣🤣🤣 Finn you crack me up 😅
I was listening to Capture The Crown's debut album days ago until you have posted this!
Favourite thing about Scene: it's a Goth off-shoot that somehow has nothing of value to offer
I was today's years old when I found out that Metal Inquisition was Finn's blog. Everything comes full circle it seems
My tattoo artist here in Pennsylvania was the guitarist in Capture the Crown lol he's an awesome guy, huge into the tattoo & car scenes.
RIP Punk Goes Crunk 😂

That produced a couple bangers like the Ice Nine Kills cover of Maroon 5 and The Devil Wears Prada’s cover of Still Fly!
Omg the comments about of design the skyline being every genre of sene music at the same time is so painfully accurate. But I feel it’s not just the music the way they look is like every single scene kid MySpace look. The hair, the piercings, the outfits , the makeup. I feel like I’m looking at every one of MySpace profile pics mixed together. I just but the MySpace scene kid lie was the peak of my 31 year old life tbh.
I remember that design the skyline moment like it was yesterday. I was always hyped for victory releases. Then this came out.
The Alumni Club, Just The Kid You Were Looking For, School Boy Humor, Select Start are my TOP Neon Pop Punk bands they would all play the local coffee shop a town over. I looked like a neon kid myself i love it
design the skyline was a core memory i didn’t need brought back thanks
Best KZread Channel. (From a French guy)
Weirdly enough, a decade later, I have neon strings on my bass, and when I play shows there's always someone to praise that.
We need a part 2
Awesome Hollywood undead shout, with Jeff star, different times;)
lol cobra starship? i always thought Breathe Carolina was a lot more like the scene version of 3Oh!3
That title held me at gun point
When I think of this type of stuff, Etienne Sin always comes to mind
Ah this takes me back to reading SYWH in high school during study hall. What a time to be documenting music lol
Some of the best vocals you’ll hear in music haha
Damn it I've forgotten about so much old music😢
I remember in high school, Marianas Trench made a song that absolutely shit on Metro Stations Shake It. That end of the chorus lives rent free in my head to this day "shake-shake-shake-shut your mouth".
This video gave me ptsd from highschool.
The guy from Romance On A Rocket Ship was in two Metalcore bands. Agraceful and Here I Come Falling
The day I’ve been waiting for
design the skyline was basically from my hometown. still have there album on cd
Brooo this was awesome, I LOVED NSN growing up hahahaha the memories I can’t stop laughing
My scene band would’ve been called one of the following -Beautiful Undead -Shallow Razor -The Never-Ending Nothing -The Mind of Morla -The Southern Oracle or -One of the Following
It's actually so sick to have the sponsor be a band
Im offended that you were spot on with that plaid shorts in Indiana bit... not so proud Hoosier, reporting in lmao
Hey Finn I recently read your book "How to Troll 101" and I have to say that you really wrote it to cater beginners/noobs. However, you somehow didn't mention *A smug laugh after posting a comment on AE's decade old video of him doing a backflip. Eagerly waiting for your next release, keep us posted.

5:21 LOL I used to open a low drawer and put my foot on it when I was a corporate trainer. Standing behind a desk is lame so I brought the metalcore energy to all my classes.
Hey Finn, another really underground neon pop punk band from that time that I’ve never heard anyone talk about is Red Car Wire who have a 2008 ep that’s really good and catchy. But they had like no success at all outside of being at the bottom of a warped tour line up. But their ep is as good as underdog alma mater

I hope my ears will never be subjected to that sponsor band ever. What were they called ? Coldsore?
I found a dot dot curve shirt at the goodwill wore it for years didn’t even know what it was haha
I saw Make Me Famous at the Emerson back in the day, I remember their guitarist had a Brittany Spears head mic lol
I just started but Abandon All Ships better be on here. 😂
needed to add isles and glaciers
Finn, whata your favorite emmure album/s. I lost track of them after their first two. But ive been feeling like checking out some of their other albums if theyre good.
Those songs at the beginning 😅😂
goddamn, you unlocked memories I wish I didnt have of Romance on a Rocketship
As an Indiana native, thinking about our Crunkcore scene, its what happens when kids who have so much going on around them get creative. And yeah, Walmart is all we got, either film it their, in your bedroom, or out in a cornfield
Hollywood undead was at a festival I was at last week and they did not play their old songs, sadly
Enter Shikari have turned into a reliable dance/rock outfit.
