Why go to an outdoor range when Mr SG has a fantastic studio setup to simulate weather conditions (assuming software) 🤔

One test nobody has done is, a salt water balance test. So I decided to do it myself. Out of 3 PXG balls in a sleeve, all balls shows perfectly balanced. No repeated spots at all. As a control I tested a sleeve of Prov1's and found one ball that was noticeably out of balance. Maybe some of the early batches had issues. All balls have them. But the ones I have seem to be perfect.

went to a PXG store today for the first time ever. Gotta say im impressed. Let me hit all their clubs. let me try different driver heads and shafts as well. actually gave me a dozen pxg balls to try as well. Matt, great review as always

They're a great company to get a fitting at tbh. Even though they are there to sell their brand they don't pressure you into it and provide a lot of good info you could take elsewhere if you wanted.

Honestly the most thorough golf ball review I’ve seen. I appreciate your objective approach. Would love to see more of this with DTC balls like Vice, Snell etc

Great video. I think sound on putting greatly depends on the putter... I too use an Odyssey putter with hinge face and usually cannot depict the sound profiles as much as my buddy with a SC with no face inserts/etc. More than anything... ball reviews are hard to do because there are SO many variables to people's golf game... I appreciate you posting your results.

This is an excellent video. Got the impartial numbers from trackman, but also test is done outside so can see the aerodynamic properties of the ball as well. Nice work.

Interesting comment on consistent quality. Easy way to test is the 'bowl of water and spin them' process. You could do that Matt. I would certainly like to see it.

I like the fact that your swing speed and ball speed numbers are human. It seems everyone else on KZread has 125mph swing speed and 187mph ball speed. Keeping it real✌

any chance you can test all the titleist balls against each other ? Would be nice to know the best option for a mid handicapper.

Vice plus same #s as prov1s at 40 percent less switched last yr after i tested on my sim. Pro v definitely top of food chain but now that the avg guy can test them and great reviews like this.. Going to get a piece of ball market pie.

And T PV1X is now $55 or $60 if it has the thicker alignment line… that’s a sizeable difference per dozen

Love your videos, was anyone else excited when rick and Mr shortgame were talking at the golf show that they might have a collab?

This was the correct comparison. The PXG ball is extremely close to the Pro V1x. Your low spin in the first batch of 54 degree wedges was because you were hitting behind it a little. Good on you to hit a few more afterwards, which showed they're basically the same. QC is the big question mark; good job bringing that up at the end. We'll see how they do but it's certainly a strong first effort from PXG.

This is the first time I listened to a review that you have conducted. I enjoyed it so much I hit the like and subscribe button. Even though my swing speed is nowhere near yours I found that the review was very relatable to me. The differences in equipment performance are mostly based on the quality of my ball striking. Some days I break 80 some days I don't. I now play from the forward tees where I can play my own swing without having to bust every shot to keep up with the younger big hitters. A 5 yard difference for you is negligible at my swing speed. Many reviewers only focus on their swing characteristics and not who might find a benefit from the particular club or ball they review in a relatable manner. Keep up the good job

I think it comes down to whether you use the V1 or the V1x as the benchmark - People coming from a V1 probably aren’t going to like it. People used to a V1x will feel the similarities. Great review, Matt!

That was my thought as well. I assumed the PXG ball is supposed to be a ProV1 type ball speed the ProV1X

Rick’s test wasn’t really fair as he compared PXG to ProV1 (and not the X). Nice Review!

Also, he didn’t test the compared ball the same day, in the same conditions. I think people need to stop trying to find a “poor man’s” Pro-V1(x). Its’s a solid golf ball, it’s a fair price, and it has a bunch of premium characteristics. People are missing the forest for the tree, it’s a 3 piece urethane cover ball at a mid tier price. 15 yrs ago, all premium balls were at this price point and paying an extra $15 per dozen for premium was lavish. Now you can get a real upgrade over two piece or three piece budget balls for ~$10, it’s a win for the consumer.

To be fair PXG compared their ball to the pro V1. That being said the X is a better comparison and I really do like the PXG ball myself.

Single digit handicapper would see the difference. Anyone else would just depend how well they played that day. I have shot in the 70's with a Pinnacle and a ProV1.

I like the way you tested both balls. I use Bridgestone E12 Contact and whip all my ProV buddies. ProVs seem hard to me and they mark up too easy. Most people disagree. 🙄

Is the spin rate with Trackman total spin or backspin only? In most tests I am seeing, the PXG seems to have way more curve telling me the sidespin is a lot higher than others. Not great for higher spin players.

Unbiased technology review. I like it.

Ok, now this is a review we can count on. Between Mr Shortgame and TXG we should know exactly how good/bad these are. Seems like they are very similar, but slight nod to Pro V1x, but at a cheaper price. I don't like the tone and color of the PXG, so no way I will use them, I will stick witht he Vice Pro Plus.

Pricing may be off. ProV1 and ProV1X I’m seeing at $54.99 so the PXG is $15/dozen less expensive. Would be better to compare it to that price range ball.

Good call on QC, I bought a dozen and I like them. But, I shoot between 75 and 85, so....its a ball. I like my Snell MTB X. Probably won't switch to PXG (and I play PXG clubs) because....$5 more for a ball that's just as good. I like PRO Vs, but $25 more than my Snell.

I find 5x as many ProV balls in the weeds and water than any other ball. Definitely a waste of money for 5 hcp and above.

Exactly. I’ve given away thousands of dollars worth of em to the scuba guys over the years. LOL.

The scuff marks could have been from the ball picker? 12 shots with 1 ball of each from a sand trap for a durability test after the completion of all other testings for irons, driver, putter, and short game. This could be the ultimate durability test? I thought that the PXG performed better around the green than the V1X...it seemed its carry and roll were more consistent so I was surprised that you didn't find the feel as good as the V1. I think it would be really cool for you to do this exact same test between the Titleist PRO V1 and V1x vs. the Maxfli Tour and Tour x. MyGolfSpy did ball reviews on the Maxfli last year and the Maxfli Tour X version came in 3rd place right behind both the Pro V1 and V1x. The Maxfli Tour wasn't far behind. I've tried both the 2023 versions of the Maxfli and I think they made some improvements to the feel of the Tour version. It would be a really great comparison test. You can get the Maxfli Tour and Tour x at Dick's or Golf Galaxy for $40 a dozen/$ 70 for 2 dozen/$ 120 for 4 dozen.

Some of the other testers noticed scuff marks after hitting out the bunkers. Did you do a bunker test?

I think the ProVs both regular and x are the best wearing ball. The PXG was very close but the color of the PXG is white where the ProV1x looked a bit dusky in comparison. I really like the look of the PXG better.

Matt, they’re saying the PXG’s compression is 108. That’s pretty high. Would an “average” golfer swinging 85-90mph with driver really benefit?

Would have like to see the ProV1 in that test. I tend to find the ProV1X too firm

I played the PXG ball a little last weekend because a buddy bought them and pass out a sleeve to the each of us. After a couple holes the ball had some pretty major scuffs on it.

Huge difference. Honestly, if I had my latest club purchase to do over again, I’d have went with the new Taylormade cavity back. Not because I think they’re better than Vokey. Vokey are the best wedges you can get…….when you can hit em solid. I can’t, and they can be pretty daggum unforgiving.

So PXG at their first go around in ball market knocks it outta park and is on plane w Titleist which cost more and have been doing it much longer. Kudos to PXG. I bought several boxes and love the new PXG ball. I also appreciate the whiter color. Easiest to see and find in rough. Won’t take long at all for PXG to address any quality control issues with the ball. Finally I love how they just have one ball now to rule them all. The ball market is too saturated and the different models give Me a headache. Hats off to PXG. 👍🏻👍🏻

I am curious about psychological bias. It seemed that your brain wanted the familiar ball to prevail as your first SI strikes were more agg. Ive always a stickler for variables and controls. Be cool if someone teed up unmarked balls for you randomly. Having said that, i trust you as always; great review, Who's making them for PXG?

I thought that stat comparisons between balls should always trump what I personally felt about any of them, in that I LOVE Vice Pro's and have been playing them exclusively for over a year now, because on paper they essentially perform exactly the same as a Pro V1. That said, while I probably won't switch from the Vice Pro unless they are changed somehow, they aren't as consistent from ball to ball (i.e. looser manufacturing tolerances, and mygolfspy's tests show that) and they aren't as durable as a Pro V1. All that said, they are almost half the price of a Pro V1, when bought in bulk like I do. I would say that the differences ARE noticeable, even to a 15 handicap like myself, but the price savings are simply more important. If money were no object, I'd literally buy hundreds of Pro V1's, and unfortunately for the PXG ball, they are only slightly less expensive than the top dogs, so unless they were indistinguishable from a Pro V1x, TP5x, etc., I don't see why would wouldn't pay the extra $7 to get the better ball.

So for me, I see PV1x at $55 a dozen in most stores. I will pay $35 a dozen with a Heroes discount for the PXG. Seems like a no brainer for me.

You should have cut open the pxg to see if the core was off-center. That might explain the added curve.

The knock on Kirkland has been quality. Tend to have many balls with off center cores and they lack durability. Performance on centered-core balls is pretty comparable to the premium balls, though.

I’ve been using Kirkland lately. They have a great feel, and (the extremely rare times I hit it well) they fly pretty well and check good. My biggest issue, though, has been durability. Like if I hit the chipping green after the range, they get badly scuffed after a chipping/pitching session. ProV1’s last A LOT longer

I think the durability of a kirkie is understandable Vs titleist .. the Kirkie is like $1.17 a ball and titleist is now $5. I’ll happily chuck a kirkie if it’s too scuffed up

If you learn to like the PXG better stock up. You can only order them online and shipping is slow right now and of course you have to pay for the shipping.

All that shows is the actual balance point. I would vary slightly for every ball regardless of brand.

The sound difference is obvious while putting. PXG has a higher pitch. Sounds harder.

I find for a 10 handi-capper the PXG balls are a great fit. I don't believe most people can hit Pro-v's ones the way the pro's do so it shouldn't matter. Save the money and buy the PXG's

Would love it if you could get in touch with Rick Shields and send him a box from your batch and see if he gets a different result to his first review. Wondering if somehow temperature is affecting the pxg. Your first robot test was done indoors. Where it performed its best. Next outdoors where it performed well and Rick tested in UK winter so I'm sure they were the coldest and performed very differently. Would love to see that tested.

Ive watched a few videos on KZread of golfers testing out titleist quality control. Lets say i was shocked at results. For a box of 12 titleist prov1s atleast 3 were diffective per box.!! Thats terrible for a company that charges 50 per box or over 3$ per ball! 😠 😡

At my skill level and confidence, neither of these balls fit into my price category, lol. Maybe I'll find some along the course, lost by some player trying to look fancy.

Bottom line is the PXG ball is still priced too high IMO. If I'm not going to play a Pro V, I will just buy the Vice Pro +. Vice arguably makes the best golf ball at the respective price point.

Are you worried about comparing the spin rates since the Trackman struggles to capture that data correctly on these balls? I know they recommend a ball like the prov1 RCT for accuracy.

That's indoors. Trackman is perfectly capable of tracking spin of any ball outdoors

Are you saying you know they don't do as good a quality control or you know they don't? Seems you could contact them and try to get an answer to that question. Obviously your not replacing your gamer (ProV1) with this ball nor did it seem you were saying better players would prefer it, did I understand your test results correctly?

Why is the wind effecting shots on Trackman? Can’t you set it to “normalized” and rule out wind and just go off of ball performance data?

Normalizing it would not give us real data. This test was to get the reality of the ball.

The PXG isn't a bad ball. I just don't think its comparable to a premium ball like the ProV1 or TP5

I think this test and especially TPG’s shows that it is directly comparable. Like indistinguishable to the average person because each stat is within the margin of error

come on man the first 6 swings with the pxg were definitely slower and softer swings than the first 6 with the pro v1. Look at the carry distance and peak height, look at the video of your tempo on the swing. If you want to do a more fair comparison you need to show us club swing speed and location of ball impact on club face because they have a HUGE impact on spin , trajectory and distance.

Why does the PXG logo seem huge? No thx

Curious why comparison wasn’t made between PXG and Pro V1 instead of Pro V1x. PXG is a 3 piece ball as is the Pro V1. The V1x is a 4 piece ball and is softer.

Way to expensive for a new ball on the market.

I love your channel and content but this is not a good comparison at all. On your first 6 balls with pxg you were definitely swinging slower and the proof is that you only carried 80 yards with 5500 spin, then you hit 6 pro v1 balls and swung harder and that is why you carried it 85 yards and had about 7300 spin, then you hit another 6 balls with pxg and you swung even harder and averaged about 88 yards carry and about 8300 spin....so your swing speed WAS NOT CONSISTENT...and then to top it all off you averaged the 12 pxg balls with 2 sessions at drastically different swing speeds against the 6 pro v1 balls at a medium swing speed. You need to show us the swing speed and impact location on the clubface to make this a fair test. I expect a lot more precision from you when testing and I realize you are not a robot but you can clearly see that you had almost 3000 rpm difference with the 2 pxg wedge sessions because in the first session you averaged 80 yards carry and the 2nd pxg wedge session you averaged 88 yards....that is a HUGE difference for spin on a wedge with those carry distances. You edited way too much critical information out of this comparison. As braindead Biden says 'come on man'

CHEAPTER?

This is the results i expect from a ball at this price point. They are paying a company in china to formulate and manufacture a ball. It’s not as good, it’s certainly not as consistent and it can’t be or it would be $54.99 a dozen live pro v. It’s plain and simple If you want the best ball the best r and d and the best quality control you have to pay for it. Even when Costco built a copy of the pro v and got sued they admitted they were losing money on the balls.

@@ericfletcher2887 whatever you say sir, its still made in a overseas ball plant where pxg is not in control of the quality of the product which is why all the top balls ie titelist, tm, bridgestone, callaway are all made in the USA where they have control over all the processes.

PXG is nonsense. They started out charging huge prices for their clubs, hoping it would convince players that "more expensive" equaled "better." That fooled a lot of people, but I knew it was a sham when they started massively discounting previous editions. The ball is a below-Tour-level ball. It is comparable to the Callaway ERC, Titleist AVX, and TM Tour Response. Urethane cover, 3-piece, and a little softer core to accommodate slower swingers. (The ones who get suckered into buying PXG.) The ball feels like it is made of aluminum. It does NOT perform like a ProV1x around the greens. Anyone can make a good ball these days--just contract it out.

The PXG ball is like LIV golf, you either like it or you don't. Not as good as the number one ball in golf, TITLEIST. For the record, the best golfers in the world play on the PGA TOUR!!!!
