The Ultimate Local’s Guide to New Orleans || Gatekeepers

Ойын-сауық

On this episode of Gatekeepers, Justin is heading to one of his favorite cities, New Orleans, in search of some new experiences he hasn’t had before. New Orleans native and celebrity private chef, Ashley Jonique aka @Letdatgirlcook, is the perfect person for the challenge as she has both the connections and the confidence to ensure Justin get’s the authentic local experience. As Ashley often tells Justin “I got you.”
In every city there’s someone who’s connected, who knows where to go on a slow Monday night and can get a table anywhere they want on a Friday - in every city there’s a Gatekeeper. In this Thrillist travel show, we’re sending our host across the country to meet up with these Gatekeepers and experience first hand everything you should make sure to do/eat/drink, one city at a time.

32 year old here, born and raised in New Orleans. She has by far the most New Orleanian accent I ever heard. Her accent is half black New Orleans and half white New Orleans with a dash of Cajun. It's beautiful and cannot be faked.👌🏾

Dornish Wench yes I really do. This hipster vibe just doesn’t match with the town. This isn’t about “looking cool” it’s about enjoying one of if not THE most fascinating culture in the United States. He felt pretty disingenuous and she was trying so hard to showcase spots without looking touristy while he was so dry and too much of a braggart. Nonetheless I hope this video really inspires people to visit the city, and I mean all of it not just the quarter.

I am a traveler, many places I have been to are 1 and done's but there is a short list of go backs. The go backs are places that draw you back for several reasons, those reasons being the food, the vibe, the people, diversity of culture, fun, beauty, feeling that there would be more gotten from another trip & etc..Been to NOLA before and always wanted to go back because it ticks all the go back boxes. The local guide reminded me why I liked New Orleans and why I have to go back. In Europe my go backs are Prague, Florence and Paris.

I'm Cajun, originally from a rural tow in Southwest Louisiana (Almost in the center of Acadian Country). I love my Cajun roots, but I am in love and savor the Creole culture of New Orleans (The people, the food, the history, the architecture, etc...). What can I say - Go Cups = Awesome, Jazz = I only clap, snap, or stomp on the 2 & 4, the people are the friendliest in the south and I was born in Cajun country where lagniappe is the rule of hospitality, raised in Texas where the ranchers and farmers kids I went to school with were all in FFA and everyone waives to everyone driving around town...but, New Orleans is the King of hospitality. The history is a rich "gumbo" that is unparalleled, the architecture is unique whether you have the Spanish and French influence in the French Quarter and other areas east of Canal St. and the antebellum south, Georgian inspired architecture of the American sector west of Canal St. (Uptown), sitting by the river whether its by Jackson Square/the Old Jax Brewery or Audubon Park, the lake shore, City Park, second lining, there is no place like it. If I click my heels together and say, "There's no place like New Orleans" 3 times in a row, maybe I'll wake up there? One can only dream!
