I'm so glad you've got a thing for Faber Castell pens. I have a HUUUUGE soft spot for Faber Castell. My sister lives not far from their factory in Stein, near Nürnberg. The window frames of their factory are all primary colours, you can go visit the Faber Castell family's castle and, of course, the Faber Castell factory shop. O! M! G! Pen and pencil heaven! You should totally go, Minnie, and do a vlog from there.

OMG, the sharpener! That is the best sharpener. It makes such a big difference that I will literally not ever use anything else. Somehow it is a total game changer, and leveled up my art, which I know makes no sense, but somehow it's true. I did not know how much energy and effort I was throwing away until I discovered Mobius and Rupert. I now buy them as gifts for people who art, and I keep art least three backups at all times, in case I misplace mine. Never going back!

I will say if you want to start with gouache and already have watercolours I have a great tip. If you have white gouache you can easily make any color opaque and you can actually get really dark colors. I will also say with real gouache I’ve found that my medium price gouache (it the Lascaux 12 set) are fine and rewet on a pallet brilliantly except the black which separates so I have a w&N design black.

I had to laugh when you said you had a lot of colors but really only used 5 when painting. I'm the same, I do like seeing the convenience colors as they're inspiring, but when working, it's so much easier to just work with a few. Color mixing is faster and there's less thinking and more doing. Also PR122 rules. I would also die for quinacridone magenta. Possibly PB29 too. ^^

So excited for your new book! I love love love Faber-Castell Pitt pens - the "greys" set is fantastic for urban sketching. Pro tip: the brush tips are double-ended, so when the original one gets a bit frayed, you can remove it (e.g. with tweezers) and put it back in the other way round, doubling the lifespan of the pen 😀

The velvettouch round 4 is probably my most used brush as well. There really isn't anything special about it, and it's a soft point which is usually the last thing people are looking for, however there is just something about the spring and balance.. that soft point makes edges flow on so smooth, and it holds just the right amount of water. I've gone through about four of them. It's THE brush I reach for whenever I need a brush to do any kind of utility work.

It is really funny to me that most of people get an ensemble of paint color then go smaller and smaller until they only use a couple. I think it is a normal process toward knowing your colors and composition of them, especially if you don't have a ''professionnal'' approach to it from the start. I always used 4 colors and tone with oil paint, which are exactly or almost the same color you are using with gouache. Also, Faber Castell 🥰

Hey Minnie, Hahnemühle is a German brand and I try to explain the pronunciation to you :) let's split it in hahne and mühle which makes it easier. Hahn means cock whilst mühle means mill, so it's kind of a cock-mill probably 🤣 hahn is just a long flat german "A", as in "yard" (I don't know any better example). The "ü" in Mühle is probably complicated to non-Germans, but it sounds like an u (as in uber) mixed with an e or an i. It's also a long vowel. The vowels e are barely pronounced, they are kinda reduction vowels. So it's hahn(e)mühl(e) :)

Ah thank you so much for this! I'm sure I'll still struggle with pronunciation 😅😅 that ü still perplexes me haha

LMBO! I was thinking the other day that it would be great if Minnie styled her hair in a big afro-puff on the top of her head. And here you are... LOL! Congrats on your own/new house!!!
