TAYLOR TACTICAL used to sell followers and mag extensions for Rugers that increase round capacity to about 15. The ones for GSG 1911-22 works great.

i got the Keltec $200 red dot slide and it works just fine. I was at the range today and shot off about 340 rounds and ALL rounds fired off and cycled PERFECT. CCI Mini Mag 36 grain CPHP 1260 fps thats all i use.

I expected that to work well. I just wish they offered a budget option for those who already have a red dot. Maybe, they'll offer the lighter red dot slide without the red dot for cheap one day.

@@deuceandguns When i spoke to the guy at Keltec, he said they sell it with the CTS red dot because it is the lightest red dot on the market. This is to keep the weight down as much as possible so the slide has no issues cycling. He said they decided not to sell the red dot slide without the red dot because people would put their "heavier" red dot on there which could pose an issue with the slide properly cycling and the 1st thing they are going to do is contact them to complain. Its $200 because of the red dot and the labor involved to machine the new slide to accomondate the red dot AND for the KelTec ingraving on the slide to help reduce more weight because of the red dot. By adding that red dot weight, they removed metal from the slide to compensate. When i weighed the oem slide it was like 4.18 ounces and the new red dot slide was 4.62 ounces. I paid the $200 and it works fine for me. I could have went the route you did by getting the adaptor and getting my own red dot but then i thought about the added weight and if it started acting up, then im out the $$ for the adaptor and the red dot. At least this red dot is made by them and they "cover" it and they "certified" it.

Good video, i have a P17 and really enjoy it. I also have the Ruger dot on my Max9. Was supposed to be made for that gun. I went with this dot first because i dont like red dots to begin with. I am trying this one for cost to see if i start liking one on a pistol. If i start liking it more I will get a better dot. Thanks for showing your results on a P17 without buying the separate slide

I am contemplating the Keltec slide/red dot combo. Yes expensive but I have other 22s and I would like to enhance the Keltec. Thank you for the video and it was enjoyable.

i have the slide and i like it, no affect on its performance. I do like the Keltec engraving on the top side.

Keltec actually makes a slide with an included red dot that might be a bit more reliable (i see you mentioned it, disregard)

Hey Deuce, try a lighter recoil spring. I have no idea where you might find one, but I'm sure you find something. The suppressor idea would most likely work as well. Either way have fun and happy shooting.

Ive had my P17 for a few months now, yes it has some issues but today i fired off 340 rounds and she ran like a champ. No issues at all, i was impressed. and i did like 5 mag dumps and she hit every round with ease.

It ads more weight than the springs are expecting. My P17 shoots great with the factory site.

4.18 oz for the oem slide 4.69 oz for the red dot slide made by Keltec If you are NOT using high velocity ammo, that will cause an issue. If you use High Velocity QUALITY ammo, its not an issue.

You probably need to adjust the springs or run hotter ammo to get it to work right.

I wonder if there is a way to change the pre-load of the recoil spring for the added weight of a red dot. There is a European rifle that has a cam'd spring retainer that changes the pre-load on the rifle. And if I am remembering right it is a recoil operated rifle.

I'm sure it would work if a slightly lighter recoil spring we're available but if it goes too light then the action isn't strong enough to strip the next round out of the mag and chamber it. Narrow window of success with failure on either side.

@deuceandguns the only other thing I can think of would be a variable rate spring. I"ve made a few in the past, and it's hard but not difficult to make if you know your spring compression rates. There is a guide that lists them that I've"ve used in the past but I no longer have that reference manual. A good Master or Journeyman Machinist probably knows the book I am referring to. The biggest issue would be proper heat treat and tempering of the new spring.

i have the Keltec Red Dot Slide and it has NO affect on the guns performance. She still runs strong but i do run CCI Mini Mags at 1260 fps so thats enough kick to cycle the slide with the red dot on it.

I'm assuming you've never tried a Kel-Tec P17. You really should give one a try. I have many very expensive firearms, but I find my P17 to be one of the most enjoyable to shoot. It's light weight, but the recoil is minimal, and the trigger is better than it has a right to be.

because its $200 and it runs with the right ammo. I just shot off 340 rounds today at the range, 100% fire rate with 5 mag dumps and this gun ran like a CHAMP ...

Hmmm I don't know. Maybe because for $200 it has a better trigger than a S&W M&P compact, comes with three mags that hold six more rounds. It's light, reliable and affordable. Maybe start with an educated opinion before bashing it.
