Taurus TX-22 vs Kel Tec P17 | Budget 22 Pistol Shootout

Ойын-сауық

We are back with a new video, Taurus TX-22 vs Kel Tec P17 | Budget 22 Pistol Shootout, We hope you will enjoy it.
We put about 500 rounds of various ammunition through each of these today. Both were brand new and unfired. The Taurus seemed a bit more reliable overall, but the Kel-Tec's front fiber optic sight was a nice touch. The biggest difference between both budget plinkers, were the magazines. The mags on the p17 were atrocious to load. The TX22's magazines were very easy and quick to load to full capacity.

    They really didn't want to like the Kel-Tec! Fully loaded magazines vs half loaded mags in the Taurus. A stove pipe IS NOT a double feed. You have an empty case and the round that doesn't make it all the way into the chamber because of the stovepipe. That's all. Also, a faulty .22 round is not a "light primer strike." It is a bad round. Happens with .22 rimfire. A lot. And the "17th round" not feeding from the magazine? Hmmm. It only holds 16...so if he somehow forced 17 into it, he caused his own problem. Sounds a little prejudiced to me.

  • @DirtbagOutdoors

    @DirtbagOutdoors

    Жыл бұрын

    Its not. The guns were bought by each of us with our own money. The taurus was better in basically every way. End of story. The p17 is cool in its own right and also cheaper. The primer of a 22 is the rim. If it goes off on the 2nd try, that's exactly like a conventional centerfire light primer strike. Could it technically be a round where that exact spot didnt have enough to detonate on the first try? Sure... but thats still nearly the same thing as a light primer strike. You're splitting hairs because you're upset the taurus won. Trust me, the guy who just paid for the keltec wanted it more than the taurus and really wanted it to perform better. It was close, but it didnt.

    @@DirtbagOutdoors I have to agree its the buyers choice but the P17 has outsold the Taurus 2 to 1 since it came out and now you cant find one anywhere. I got an email from Kel Tec saying they had suspended the P17 line temporarily but didnt give me a reason. Taurus customer service is the worse I have ever run across. I special ordered a 9mm from taurus with some special items on it that cost me a fortune and had to send it back under warranty for a repair and Taurus stripped it back to basic and I am taking them to court over it.

    One advantage of the P17. I have both, but the P17 with the fiber-optic sight is more accurate. Also, the P17 (lighter and a little slimmer) with a kydex holster and lighter weight makes a better concealed carry gun with the same amount of rounds.

    Plus one more mag comes with the P17, plus it's $60 cheaper, and to me, the biggest thing, customer service is night and day difference between Kel-Tec and Taurus. Kel-Tec will do whatever is necessary to make it right. Good luck with Taurus. There are literally hundreds of horror stories online with Taurus customer service. Kel-Tec is notorious for great customer service.

I think 22 lr semi auto pistols have come a long ways since my day. I’m excited to compare them side by side. I did hear something about charging the kel-tec by pulling the slide to the rear as opposed to using the slide stop/release. Not sure if that had anything to do with a couple of those first round FTF or not. It may say in the manual. Either way I loved the video and I’m going to subscribe. Hope to see many more. The P17’s have 16rd mags. If you force 17 rounds in the mag and then attempt to chamber a round it won’t chamber. P17 = 1 in the chamber and 16 in the mag. I guess they could have kept everyone happy by calling it P16+1. I’m also wondering why the P17 mags were loaded to almost capacity or overloaded, but the Taurus mags were only loaded to 10 rounds, other than less chance for error with the Taurus? Both are fantastic additions to the 22LR pistol world. With the P17 commonly found for $180 nowadays, it’s hard to beat. I’ve had zero issues with my P17, but I only shoot HV 22LR ammo (CCI Mini Mag or Aguila Super High Velocity). I used to buy bulk ammo years ago but the frequent FTF or FTE round every 50 or so just wasn’t worth the $.01 per round savings for me.

    The P32 is not junk. Its one of the most reliable pistols they have made. Thats why its one of their longest running pistols. We have two of them and both have over 1,500 rounds through them and don't fail until the 350 round mark with no cleaning or lube. As soon as a failure to feed pops up around 350 rounds, I clean them quickly, add a few drops of oil, and they are back running perfectly for another 350 rounds. It will feed Hornady XTP hollow points flawlessly as well. Also i carried one, near the coast around salt water plus lots of sweat from humidity and hot summers in the south, and they still functioned fine and look good after literally thousands of days of daily carry. I work outside too, not in the a/c so mine stayed dirty and sweaty. My P32 is rock solid.

I've stuck with higher quality copper coated CCI Mini mag's 1235 around +/- 500rds so far, not one single problem so far , only run copper coated if possible , hotter ammo is better for cycling automatic. Save the led for your revolvers slower firing guns. ( You can check your lands & groves with a bore camera,. I do before and after I clean.). Happy shootn 🤠. Looking at the long holes in the target, bullets are tumbling, you should only see a hole, side sounds dry needs oil. Amazon bore snake camera $65

    I've been looking at the P17 for my wife. She's got really small hands and very tiny fingers (her ring finger is a size 4 if that gives you any indication). The P17 has that really small magazine making the grip appreciatingly more narrow. Plus, the weight of the P17 is very light. The lightest I seen. I've not really looked at the TX22. But looking at that magazine, I'm sure that the grip is considerably larger than the P17 and the gun is heavier just because of that larger magazine.

    I just got a P17, first time shooting it, out of the box, the mags are the only thing that needed breaking in, lol... the P17 went through virtually all ammo except the 710fps subsonics did not have enough to cycle... the 855 subs at 45gr did cycle just fine. 400rds in approximately with no real issues, any issues i did have was from really old bulk ammo that most 22lr have issues with and im trying to just use it up... This is my experience with these 2 guns. A friend wanted to get my opinion on these 2 pistols. I didn't have any interest in either one. We got to the range I put 3 hundred rounds though each. I had no problems with the p17 and 5 jams out of the TX . My friend wanted my opinion. I picked the P17. He went on to tell me about all the trouble with his TX . He had sent the TX back 3 times . The P17 fit my hands much better. But I have extra large hand . I also was more accurate with the P17. So I bought the P17. I have put 3000 rounds though it no problem.

So at 7 yards with my beloved p17 I could pick one of those numbers on your target and make it dissappear with a single mag. Ive never had to touch the sights. You should have received a test target with your pistol proving it's sighted in and they test at 60 feet. Also your p17 came with a manual that clearly states the need for high velocity ammo. I'd thi k two guys who know everything would have known that. If you wouldn't have had budget ammo at first ol p17 woulda ran like a champ the whole time.
