Well said, I watched him and Mahomes play and Elway definitely has a better arm. Can you imagine how good he would be in today's Wide open, offensive, quarterback/wr safe league. His stats would be rediculous, especially with a great coach. I tell this to people when having the greatest quarterback debate. I start off with being very clear that today's game is very different from when players like Elway and Montana played. The second thing I state is that if John Elway was on the 49ers teams of the 80s and 90s he would easily have 5 or even 6 championships! He still is the highest rated QB coming out of college.

Went to college with him, The receivers used to talk about the “Elway cross”, which was the mark the ball would leave on your body because the tip of a football forms a cross from the seams and if you got a ball in the stomach it would leave a mark. Was entertaining to watch him play right field on the baseball team, best throw I’ve ever seen in person was him throwing a guy out at home plate with a throw that was a line drive from close to 300 feet away

The stats don’t reveal what a clutch player. this guy was in the fourth quarter. He just took over games. Like MJ in basketball. Incredible talent.

If it wasn't for Elway (and all the receivers who didn't flinch) I could never have had football pumping through my veins all theses years. I am a woman but Elway made me fall in love with football about 40 years ago. Thank you so much for the awesome upload.

You can count on one hand the number of guys who ever played who could roll to one side, throw across his body, and still get the ball there. Amazing arm talent.

Elway is my favorite QB ever. He wasn't statistically great like Montana or Marino. He could have a pretty trash game statistically, but in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, he would win you the ballgame. People forget what kind of player he was because they never saw him and they just go by the numbers. He might only throw 17 or 18 touchdown passes in a season, but 4 or 5 of them were game winners. And none of this footage is sped up, his physical talent was such that he could take over the game, especially in the 4th quarter.

My favorite Elway years 85-88 and 93-98. First batch it was the arm and athletic skills. Second batch he still had an arm but he was mastering the west coast offense. Was so happy that he finally was able to play in an offense that matched his skills.

And to think John Elway played his whole career without an ACL in his left knee, even makes his accomplishments even more superhuman.

I grew up and Elway was my favorite player. He is easily in GOAT conversations. Sometimes we have to be reminded of these great QBs because modern players are surpassing them statistically so we have to remember. Elway also went to multiple Super Bowls. Let not forget this. Lost to giants, skins and 9ers but eventually won 2. The Sb losses were all blowouts to goat teams. Broncos didn’t have a defense. He had a great run as afc champs.

You never saw Jim Kelly throw deep. Dude had a cannon and looked like he wasn’t even putting much on it yet he threw 60 yard bombs.

Could you imagine Elway 6ft3 rocket unlimited range arm with mobility playing in today’s league. Today’s NFL QB top five could thank Elway for doing it first. I know he has the strongest arm of all. He throws 60 yards in the air missiles and completes most of them.

It’s funny people who say Pat Mahomes is doing things no has done before hasn’t seen Elway play, great arm strength accuracy pocket awareness creating of schedule plays throwing on the run tough as nails and clutch, can you imagine if Elway Marino Montana played in today’s soft ass league where you can’t touch QBs /WRs

John elway was my favorite quarterback growing up, his arm strength and what he could do with the ball was amazing. I wasn't a huge broncos fan, I had many favorite players, most of all was Walter Payton I was a huge bear fan growing up, in New Jersey close to the meadowlands, so I also would watch a lot of Giants games because I did enjoy watching them, and watching them win. I especially enjoyed LT. But when it comes to quarterback, give me a John elway in any era, and he's a winner. And I remember when Terrell Davis got with the team and that's exactly what John needed, he needed a good running back to take off some the pressure, that John had on himself, he would run the ball he would throw the ball he would do everything. But like I said when TD joined the team, and they had a good running back that's when they won those two super bowls. And I was so happy for the broncos, I rooted for them in both super bowls. Because God knows they were in many super bowls and lost. I believe that was the greatest era of football, but maybe I'm biased the '80s were my time and the early '90s. I watch football today, and the game has changed so much every quarterback starts out in The shotgun position, they turned it into a passing game passing friendly game. You don't see the great running backs, like you did in my day. The running backs like, Eric Dickerson, Bo Jackson, and of course my favorite Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, emmitt Smith you just don't see running backs running the ball 25-30 times a game. Like an Earl Campbell, I had the pleasure of growing up in a era when used to see some real great running backs, and some great quarterbacks like John elway. I just don't enjoy the game as much as I did back then, I guess I'm getting old and a new way of playing I don't care much for, I still watch but I miss the days, of the workhorse running backs. Who complimented the quarterbacks, they've changed the game so much, that pretty soon you won't even be able to hit the quarterback. I guess I'm a dinosaur. Let's not forget Adrian Peterson, now out was a workhorse, and there was many many more that I can't mention here, or it's going to turn into a huge message. I have always been a Niners fan since 81 but I remember cheering for the Broncos as my AFL team because of Elway. The “drive” against the Browns was a classic. Nobody has had the velocity Elway had ever since.

Jesus look at the throws he made at 0:59, 1:17, 3:28, 3:31, 4:08, 8:16, 9:57, 10:55, 11:50 and 12:11. This whole highlight tape is nothing but absolute dimes, but the plays I highlighted are straight BBs. He had a absolute ROCKET. I don't believe anyone ever unleashed the ball on a line like Elway. Favre was right up there, but I don't believe Favre's was as pretty or accurate as Elway's. I became a Packer's fan in the early 1990s too, so I know exactly what type of throws Favre could make, but Elway still threw it on a rope better than anyone ever.

No question. Elway would have at least one 5,500 passing yard season in today's game. It goes without saying that Jameis Winston threw for more yards last year than Dan Marino in 1984 (which I still believe is the greatest quarterbacking season in NFL history).

That arm had a super charger on it. Ol boy Watson had great hands. When football was fun to watch.

I first started watching football in the early 80s ...Elway and L.Taylor got me hooked...Broncos fan ever since . Elway was golden to watch , most of his recievers where just really good , if he only had a J Rice like Montana did in his early carreer.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED watching him throw. Beautiful to watch him and happy AF that I did.

back in the early 80's it was Elway maybe Vance Johnson and nobody. And he got them to the super bowl. that's amazing.

I remember him being feared as a runner in a pre Vick era. He wasn't easy to tackle. He considered it his opportunity to hit someone, I think.

I played in a summer soft ball league and Elway was on one of the other teams. We didn't expect him to play very hard, because we knew how costly a silly injury might be. Still, there was a "John Elway rule". He was only allowed to hit one home run per game, because, he probably could have hit a home run every time he went to the plate. The level of difference in athletic ability between him and us mortals was pretty astounding, even though there were some other Broncos and Nuggets in the league. He was a good natured guy.

Looking back after so many years it's a foregone conclusion that Elway, despite my bias, was dangerous. I don't know how other teams were could muster any confidence in playing against him. I still have my "MACH 7" - John Elway/fighter jet poster from back in the day. Other things that come to mind - 'Damn the 80's were blurry.' & 'So long...took so long to get a running game in Denver, & it was right on time too giving John much needed reprieve in his later games.' That duck & pass for a TD @ 8:51 has gotta be my favorite. The angle they showed it on tv though was from behind. It looked almost surreal; here in this one you can actually see Elway dip low enough to avoid being tackled as the guy flies over him & then he pops right up to make a beautiful connection in the end-zone. Amazing.

Having been there for every Elway game, I agree! Ifn the right coach gets involved_ the entire NFL will say, "WOE, is us!"

Every time I see a QB these days do something great and wonder if they're "the best," I get slapped back into reality when I watch an Elway highlight reel. We'll never see his equal.

Those 30-40 yard frozen ropes are just incredible to watch. His arm strength was legendary. The Bronco receivers used to put the jugs machines to 60 and 70 mph to prepare to catch Elways finger breaking passes.

I was practising my bagpipes by Wise River, Montana, and 3 guys flyfishing came from the river. One as Elway, i played a tune for him.

If this Doesn't put a Smile on your Face watching it, You don't Love Football! ELWAY Had A ROCKET For an Arm!!!!!!! He was Definitely the Quarterback I Dreamed of being growing up.

Looks like you got a lot of Elway's most memorable passes, one that I didn't see was at the Vikings where the pass ricochet off a couple of players into McCaffrey's hands and he fell into the end zone for the game winning touchdown. Thanks for putting that together.

I've seen Elway throw lasers in blizzard conditions. By far the strongest arm ever.

In 2021 there are NO quarterbacks throwing the ball that far or hard.

Although I watched him growing up I didn’t realize until just now how lucky us sports fans are now to have all the technology especially all the cameras because watching this you could really tell how much better it showcases these athletes especially a great QB.

Go Hawks! I hated John Elway as a kid, "Bronco Busters". I just wanted him to go away. He'd beat us and there was nothing we could do about it. The Boz sacked him ONCE and a billionaire bought our franchise to keep it from being the Rams and Raiders. But I watch John Elway's highlights and see Russell Wilson highlights. Elway has a stronger arm, but the pocket mobility is the fricken same. Russ made riskier throws in his earlier career, but now just looks like a carbon copy of Elway. BTW, I seen Jonh Elway play live. The ball coming out of his hands was like a laser beam. It was Terrell Davis's first year. They killed us that game.

When your quarterback is so much better than the rest of the offense, gunslinging is the way to go. It's going to be ugly sometimes, but it gives you the best chance to defeat superior opponents. Elway had little coaching and offense help for about the first 2/3 of his career. Despite his elusiveness, he was still sacked a billion times because there's only so much one man can do. The Broncos wouldn't have even been in the Super Bowls he lost if not for him. Nobody else was going to beat those Giants or 49ers either, and it wasn't his fault that his defense allowed Washington to score 35 points in the second quarter after he'd put up a 10-0 lead. Did he need help to win those two rings? Well, yeah......that's how that works. Super Bowls are won by teams. No one man can do it alone. When Elway retired, the Broncos went from 14-2 to 6-10. Not just because TD got hurt, either...when that happened, they were already 0-4 and he was averaging 3.15 YPA. The running game improved significantly after his injury. Not just because Sharpe got hurt...they were 0-4 with him. Not because the defense tanked...yards and points allowed were very similar in those two years. Shanahan was still there. Smith and McCaffrey were still there. What was the biggest change? No more Elway. Passer rating went from 93.0 to 73.6. ANY/A went from 7.11 to 5.23. Points scored went from 501 to 314. And that was when Elway was 157 years old. The man......WON.

I get that these are ultimate highlights, but what you notice in this compared to much of the modern game is just how absurdly covered a lot of these receivers are. He's throwing into double and triple coverages with incredibly narrow windows because there was so much jamming at the line of scrimmage, etc.

I watched these with my dad and grandpa. So many memories. However... The respect that he gets, look how little he gets sacked. They hold back. Never noticed before.

Just Imagine Elway stats with a good supporting cast, for years Elway was a one man band in Denver, he had a good team at the end of his career. His stats dont tell the whole story and dont tell how good Elway was. A Laser arm and a clutch player. Withthe skill set he had he would be even bettee in the modern football era.

Elway I met when I was real little in the 90’s after my Dad took me to see a practice. The players were walking back signing a few autographs. I asked him to sign a football and he said, “I’ll give you two options. I can sign the ball or I can throw it back to you. Then you can say you caught a pass from an NFL QB” so he threw the ball to me, my parents missed the picture..... and I’m out an autograph lol. True story, cool memory but kinda got screwed haha.

You should have seen him throw a baseball. I was fortunate enough to have witnessed that. I was very young, but I still remember it. Decades later, I've never seem anyone throw any ball like that. It wasn't just the throw. It's the way he threw it. The wbole visual was unforgettable. I'm sure they're other guys that can do it, but I haven't seen it.

Elway had an absolute rifle for an arm. It was a curse at first, he had to learn to have touch on the ball. He was the closest thing to a modern day QB in the 80's and 90's, but the league was built around the run. Marino was an outlier.

If I were to pick a QB for my ALL-TIME TEAM >>> John Elway would be the MAN!! Throwing to my ALL TIME WR Randy Moss!!! Nobody FIRES that ball in there like Elway!!!!!

John Elway is the most naturally talented QB in NFL history and what’s even stranger is that him and Joe Montana were almost TRADED for each other in 1983 (look it up if you don’t believe me, I first learned about it by watching a 30 for 30 on the 1983 draft many years ago).

He was great, but Rodgers and Mahomes are more talented than Elway.

@@programking655 Rodgers and Mahomes both had far more talented teams around them than Elway for his entire career minus 1996-998

@@programking655 How so? Explain plz. ... Elway willed talent bereft teams to Super Bowls; as for Rogers, I do not see that in him at all. He's weak.
