    I've been using Citadel paints more and more. They are so much better than the acrylics leather companies sell. It's amazing how many leather workers are resistant to this and cannot wrap their heads around the fact that the paint works on more than miniatures.

    In other armor projects you bathed the pieces in melted wax. What was it for? To make then harder?

  • @DarkHorseWorkshop

    Ya, I do a lot of SCA armor, which is rattan fighting. Wax is a very easy and fool proof (mostly) way of hardening armor. If I was making thing for costumes and I needed to water form it I'd just use some hot tap water, or to make it harder I'd probably Cuir Bouilli (look that up) which is even hotter water which can be a bit of a pain. I'm going to do a broader leather hardening video soon.

    Big fan of your videos! I do have a question if you don't mind. If my leather gets too rigid after dying it, what can I do to make it soft enough to be flexible again? Keep the awesome cintent coming, and of course you should use an effing sewing machine!

    Only thing I'd say is some Fiebing's pro and normal dyes don't mix well and can have this weird reaction where it almost becomes shoe polish.

    Great work! It came out beautiful I love the brass on black. Personally, I being a guy who likes things symmetrical, wonder why you didn't put a strap and buckle on both sides instead of a Chicago screw on one side? Regardless, outstanding piece :)

  • @DarkHorseWorkshop

    @DarkHorseWorkshop

    Chicago screw won't move at all, so I figured that would log that side down nicely. I'm going to play some more with how the front and back joins, I want it more locked together but felt this design worked for costumes.

    Good looking piece. The fit looks a bit loose for combat, but for costume, this looks outstanding. Thanks for sharing this.

    My plan is to build out a slotted version like my original gorget video. So I'll update this pattern eventually with one that butts together and has tabs that help secure it at the neck and ... err.. bib? lol

    I currently have a real nice fighting (one with all the washers sandwiched between 2 layers of leather) gorget, but would totally love to see this design modified for combat as well. Always enjoy having my own hand made armor.

    Real talk, don’t use leather as armor. You can use leather over other armor. But leather should just be athetic or ok addition to other armor already protected that space.

    @AL-lh2ht lol. I have fought heavy combat for over 20 years in leather vambraces & rerebraces with absolutely zero injuries or other conceivable issues. Granted, my elbow cops are steel.

    I really like the work. But, functionally, I hate it. To me a Gorget should have a height minimal of the chin or no higher than the lower lip on that area that shoots upward. That way something that hits the vertical part it doesn't carry upward into the neck or head. That would make it more vorpal and arrow proof. Plus if you were to redo it you could add more designs transcending its expression. Regardless, thank you for a awesome video. can't wait to see the next one.

    @@olqb9532 That's my right to have an opinion, complimenting what I like and don't like. Followed by explaining what I would change. That's literally what defines constructive criticism. Also, I never seen a cosplayer want a vertical half face helmet. Nor have I ever heard a cosplayer say, " I want the most detach and/or unrealistic costume possible". 🤣🤣🤣

    For me you're looking for something closer to a Bevor, which is really slick when combined with a sallet or similair style half visor look. Also this critique was pretty solid honestly, it wasn't shitty like lots of people. Cheers. :)

    @@DarkHorseWorkshop I'm sorry, I thought Bevor and Gorget were one and the same. Like two different countries calling a two-handed long sword differently, or from different time periods for that matter. Thank you for the response and clearing that up, I just learned something new. Cheers. :)
