    It's such a different game. It almost plays as a board game and that makes it stand out from a typical tcg. I think that's why it didn't catch on despite the huge popularity of witcher and even the gwent itself that was in witcher originally

    Magic is by far the game with not only the most different cards, but also the most different game types and and variance in playing pieces. This makes it incomparable to anything on this list, except for maybe Yu-gi-oh or perhaps Hearthstone. If you're used to playing it, the complexity is quite ok. Maybe tolerable to people used to complex boardgames, however it is by far the hardest game to get into, unless you have someone with simple decks to teach it to you.

    Steam says I have about 1500 hrs on Master Duel (Yu-Gi-Oh) in about 18 months. I agree with your tier list in almost every way, and I think you would like YGO if you could get past how intimidating it is to get started. It's an eternal card game so it never rotates, which means there's 25 years worth of potential decks. It has a ton of depth and might be the most skill intensive game I've played. The digital side is very F2P friendly as you can basically make any deck you want at first, but then it falls off as usual.

    Legends of Runeterra seems to be the one to have it all tbh, probably the most f2p, i find myself always going back to it not feeling like i missed much, very underrated. It's all i been playing along with Snap, im slowly feeling burned out from Snap and the fomo is the worst, you can skip a few releases but you just cant skip them all, they did some very weird things lately making some cards stay longer in their series and giving us the most useless cards which is not a good look, i'll be waiting for DC duel as i got a beta key im willing to give it a try despite not being a big fan of how it looked from the recent streams on it.

  • @chazz3316

    The game Legends of Runtera is a lot controll based, with a lot of removal cards and the advantage is always in the defender side (that can choose which unit blocks each atack), that makes the game so slow and it has also very long animations (that you can't skip), without counting the emotes part of it that you can't mute. This factors pissed me of in the first week playing it.

  • @vecheeto21

    @vecheeto21

    11 ай бұрын

    @@chazz3316 Not really control based, maybe during the meta when you played but now the top decks are mostly fast aggro decks, as for being the defender i wouldnt say it has any much advantage than being the attacker, as the attacker you can pick which units to attack with aswell that give you the best value trades, if there arent any then its ok to not attack, these choices are what gives you an advantage you just need to be more reactive to what your opponent is doing whether you are attacking or defending. I never really felt that the animations were long they're only a few seconds, and during those animations im probably thinking about my next play so more time for me, you can also mute emoters by clicking on the emote next to their name in case you didnt know 👍

  • @chazz3316

    @chazz3316

    11 ай бұрын

    @@vecheeto21 no, I'm speaking about muting all emotes permanently, for me only the fact that I need to click there every match is already something boring. The animations and the turn time always felt to long to me, the opponent having 30 seconds to react to every movement of yours makes the game take too much time, even when using agro decks. Heartstone and old school yu gi oh just feels way better to play with each player choosing which unit they want to attack, simple/none animations and each player having their turn to do combos without being interrupted every card they played. The only advantage this game have at the end of the day is that's f2p friendly.

    Was looking into Runeterra, as I've heard good things about it. My only issue is time, I have to actually tone down a bit on my other games, which I am not willing to do. (yet) As for Snap, I stopped playing for a few days as I didn't feel like it. After a week or so, I had no desire to get back to it. The biggest thing keeping people in after the first rush (or honeymoon period) is the fomo. Once you break that cycle, it is actually counterproductive in its effectiveness. You start to feel like you missed out on resources, falling behind a bit, making it harder to motivate to get back into it. Hopefully, I can pick it back up and still enjoy it like I did before.

    Pokemon is almost the opposite of Magic. There is no interaction and the turn sequence is very flexible- you can generally do every action in whatever order you want, except attacking, which ends your turn. It's clear how many times you can do each action. Probably the main thing that is notable about it is the amount of search and draw. It's sixty card decks and depending on the format it's not unusual to draw 20 cards in a turn. Hell, there used to be deck where you could go through your whole deck, shuffle your discard pile and then keep going all in one turn. That makes the decks very consistent- while you still brick and get bad draws you do go into the game reasonably expecting to set up and execute your deck's strategy. That leaves quite a lot of room to focus on in-game decisions to maximize consistency and adapt to what the other player is doing and adapt to the matchup.

    Agreed, unless the option exists of trying it online somewhere, I think a lot of people are never going to pick up on it. In the real life sphere, the game is competing heavily with the boardgame market, which has not only excellent games, but also is way cheaper to buy into. I'm pretty sure buying into another collectible cardgame is just not something I'm willing to do anymore. Maybe if its extremely appealing with the Lore and has a fixed set which you can just buy without the randomness, but the random packs with rarity, hell no.

Sure most of the games aren't automated, but if staying in the comfort of your own home and easily finding others to play with is what you want then TTS is a gold mine. Although if all you care about is the automation side of things sucks to be you I guess.

    Just wanted to say, though you are spot on about the apologia and excuses the community uses MTG is not deserving of E-tier. I'd argue it's easily C or B tier if you aren't starting with the deeper formats. Game is abyssmal to jump into though because it has some serious fundamental issues, both in it's actual game rules but also tournament rules. It has basically stumbled it's way into the front of the pack and it's really not deserving.

You can go pretty far for free. I'm still giving it a chance via a learning curve to see if I'm missing something, but when you go from a 50%ish winner to less than 10% at the flick of a switch, something shady seems to be going on.

    Im a huge sucker for Card Games, Collectables etc. i plazed a lot real Card games: Magic, YuGiOh, OnePiece, Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball and lord knows what i forgot.. I started Hearthstone in Beta und was a sucker till Grandmasters 2nd season. Then i got bored by the huge RNG fiesta and dying to aggro turn 5. sometimes i revisit it but never really. Its an A for me though. I also played Gwent BEFORE homecoming and i played every second of my life. I loved the Dwarfs deck and the ones with the Ships... dont get the names again... It was PERFECT. when homecoming hit and they changed so much i immediately went out after like 2 days. never played since then... RIP and clearly SSS Tier! Eternal i played a lot and its the closest to Gwent ranking wise. You have Mana like Magic with single and double but the doubles have fun effects... like light dark mana and when u have 3 of one you get a bonus effect and if you have both, you draw a card. stuff like that makes it great, way better than the magic chore to draw mana. also there are units / spells that can be used as mana in a pinch. from a mechanik standpooint its smooth, has a lot depth piece, a sideboard where you can get to in a game with special cards (market, a keywork such as battlecry etc.). Overall its really really, really good! theres is aggro but very very few and you have good counterdecks and control decks... boy are these fun. S Tier. Next is CUE: Cards, Universe, Everything. Its am mobile game and it has like 1000 cards but its mechanic is kinda like Snap. You play 5 rounds max and the first one to win 3 wins. each of the games has an Arena where cards from that Part get boost, like Dinos, Ocean, Land etc. and you bank the mana. So i can punt round 1, lose it and have like a lot mana for round 2. The fun part is they have changing rules each week. Maximum Mana, Mana refresh per round, Minimum mana etc. all change. minimum means you can spent all mana on a turn and have that amount next turn. Maximum is clear... u cant store infinite mana, just until max. and mana per turn can be 10, can be 50. cards cost from 2-10 so theres A LOT of room for deckbuilding. play few big cards, play like 10+ cards a turn with only 1-2 cost that are still powerful? Its really good: S tier and for the last online one i played: Snap. I Think Snap is kinda perfect. I love a good cardgame with short games for a ride on the bus, sitting on the toilet, 2-3 fast games before sleep, whatever. Mechanics are really fun, cards are fun, artwork is insane. Overall i really like that one: S tier. sure i played a lot on the phone and there are like 10-15 cardgames i played there but nothing kept me in for longer than a week because they are shit and i cant even remember their name xD

  • @pinobluevogel6458
    @pinobluevogel645811 ай бұрын

    So, the top 'S' tier games are Flesh and Blood and Beta Gwent? Flesh and Blood I find not very appealing both thematically and gameplay wise. Most importantly: its a collectible card game like Magic the Gahering, with insane prices and no easy way to get cards without spending tons of money. Saying a beta version of a game has been very appealing is understandable, but I felt exactly the same way I first played MTG, or even Hearthstone and more recently Marvel Snap. This honeymoon period, though certainly memorable, enjoyable and very important, is not very indicative of a game's true strength. A game's true strength is in replayability and being enjoyable for longer periods of time. SNAP falls flat on its face, once you start to go into heavy grinding territory. The game was like kindling on a fire, lighting up quickly and then fading equally fast as soon as you miss a few days and break the fomo cycle. There is something to be said for a slowburner like Magic the Gathering. Yes, the game has serious flaws (the mana system, extreme pricing, being a collectible game which you cannot ever hope to complete), but once you have a bit of a collection built up and a bunch of friends that also know how to play, you can and will always go back to it after a period of inactivity. I am currently on a long break from the game, but even then I played a few times with a friend when it came up randomly, it was still enjoyable. Sure the company that creates magic is a sh*t company, but so is Blizzard. Sure, the game is too expensive, but so are most of these games if you want to be able to play the new cards asap. I just think, being the only cardgame I always come back to (which no other cardgame has ever succeeded doing), even after playing for most of my life, it deserves an S-Tier for me. I would rank SNAP and Hearthstone as a B-Tier, while my A-Tier would be Star Realms, Jyhad (later called Vampire the Masquarade TCG), Dune CCG and LotR TCG.

But for the physical card game type, I would choose Flesh and Blood over MTG anyday, its just next generation mechanics, super clean and well thought out - it took literally decades before a new good solid card game popped the market! Just reconsider the video and put something like Grand Archive above S tier and drag Shadowverse in front of Heartstone, you should clearly see a mature and or kids card game from miles away!

    Yu Gi Oh is what I moved onto to fill the void left by Gwent's revamping into Homecoming. It sucks for like, maybe a wholeass year? Seriously, do not even attempt to play competitively before 6 months of cohesive playing :P Then it gets...ok. Some formats are pretty good, some formats are bad.

    Ok Freddy. As someone who’s played, and enjoyed Mtg Arena, Runeterra, Yugioh, now Snap. I completely agree with everything you said except for Snap. Easily S-Tier. No debate. Easy to get into, Great gameplay core mechanics, interesting artwork. I would say the only thing holding it back is the hostile environment for newer players. The card acquisition is easily the worst of any card game I’ve seen, but at the same time is not mandatory to do well. That’s what makes it good imo in addition to fast games. Sidenote- YU-GI-Oh = F-Tier 😅. Given what you said about mtg yeah…….. never 👎 play this game. Think of mtg without a mana system and you just solitaire most games. Or get stopped and watch them do it. Long complicated combos. Or try and draw cards that say NO. This is probably the worst game for newer players. Also………… CONQUEST MODE TOMORROW!!!!!!!🎉

    Man, I appreciate so much your opinions and experience (met you for the first time back in Gwent days) but this Tier list is all wrong 😅 I’ve played almost all listed games and just cannot agree. MTG is in top 3 for sure, so is LOR and perhaps Pokémon (in terms of mechanics at least). Snap is close but for me this is pure casual game, not much strategy involved. Just good time killer. HS is boring after couple of years, YGO is totally not my lore. Eternal, Shadowverse good but felt apart somehow. Gwent… I was enjoying a lot but then it felt too “mechanical” and repetitive. They wanted to minimize randomness and went too far. Every game was the same, literally I know all cards which were about to be played by opponents. Got bored a bit.

    Card games that are still great yet absent from this list: Ashes Reborn, Android Netrunner, Keyforge. For those who like lane battlers one of the best is Radlands. It’s a card game in a complete box so don’t expect a TCG or LCG but then that’s also one of its appeals. I feel like you should have at least played all the games before making a tier list. They’re easy enough to learn as they’re all based on MTG yet all offer something different.
