Love this. I tend to call it a bolt tong. Not sure if it’s correct. But I need one just like it but want 16-18 inch handle behind the pivot. In both 3/4 and 1 inch

Yeah, calling it a bolt tong works for this style. But I will make some adjustments and try to come up with a different name. Thanks for your support.
Those look great! I may order a pair next year, but I will want them to have longer reins. Have a merry Christmas Glen!

Hi Scott, my thumb is still hurting. In about 2 seconds I created a small divot by removing multiple layers of skin. Have a great rest of your holiday season.
Thanks for sharing your craft with the world. My-T-Fine! Also interesting your use of Bonehead approved. In my seventh decade I find myself using Bonehead for many who lack common sense. My dad used to refer to me as knucklehead too. For the effort you put into your craft, your prices seem extremely reasonable.
Thanks Glen, I watched this video this morning and went out and made a pair. Very quick tong, good design

Hey Steve, Thanks for this latest donation - I say that a lot to you. I'll give you the usual shout-out... I'm intrigued by this tong style and made another today. After making a few pairs of my version, I can say these are excellent tongs. As you say, really versatile... Thanks.
You could widen the lips of this tongs and make it "flat" with square V in the middle, this way it will hold wider range of things. Also, if your V would be 60 degrees, not 90, it will better hold smaller stock sizes while still good with big stock.

Thanks Solid Punch for the solid ideas. Let's see...
you are the Tong Master
Thanks for yet another cool 😎 tool, at this moment here in western North Carolina it is 7°F!!!🤦♂️🥶 predictions call for be -1°F below 🥶🥶 before heat wave of 32°F Monday, doesn't get this cold every winter but when we do, would really like to know where that "Global Warming" is and where can we purchase some!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! I love these tongs! I'll try to make a pair this week. If it doesn't go well, I'll be ordering a pair! 🙂 One question: why do you use the guillotine to flatten just behind the bit? Is that to give more strength by widening in the dimension where it will be stressed (up and down)? Or is it cosmetic?
@gstongs
Жыл бұрын
Hi John, I flattened that area just to make a reference point for when forming the hoops. But in subsequent pairs, I flattened that spot 90 degrees differently than in this video since I found that thinning in that way allows me to more easily slide whatever stock I'm holding back towards the handles and into the hoops, if that makes sense... Thanks for watching.
Those look really nice! Any suggestions for someone getting ready to make their first set of tongs?

Interesting jaw type but I would have drawn out the rains.
Love me some Brian Brazeal
👍👍👍💪💪💪
Sweet video. The anvil to the right on the stump, what are those metal nipples on the top and side?
Got to admit I am disappointed in this video. A good part of the versatility of Brazeal's design is due to the very wide platelike jaws on one side. Making them the same size is in no way a fair and honest test of his design. You are better than this.
@1agates
Жыл бұрын
It's not meant to be an exact copy or validation of Brazeals design. It's meant to be his take on a similar product.

Hi Todd, I don't mind your criticism and understand your perspective. But he used 1" and 3/4" square (a different size for each half) whereas I only used 1/2" round. However, for the second pair I did, I upset one half to get more material. Anyway, this was in no way a test of his tong since this tong is purely mine based off of a pic I saw, that's all. And my tong, to be honest, works very well. I made myself a pair and you may see it in use in my next video. Thanks and have a Happy New Year.
@gstongs
Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew and thanks for your support. As you realize I was just making my take on a pic of a tong sent to me, that's all. And besides, my smaller version works very well so that's at least some proof that Brian's design is on point.
The fact that your anvil bounces around is a bit of a joke. Like having too much play in your steering wheel or smudges on your glasses.
