The UGLY TRUTH About Rashaad Penny.

Спорт

In today's video, I discuss Philadelphia Eagles RB, Rashaad Penny. Just like many of you, when we signed Penny, I was excited. I thought if his health held up, he could be a freaky good signing behind this O-Line. However, the NFL is a tricky business, and he has a total of three carries on the season. What is the UGLY TRUTH about Rashaad Penny and the Philadelphia Eagles.

    I don't believe this is fair to Penny. The Eagles brought him in on a "show me" contract. The Eagles basically got a quality back dirt cheap for the season, but the reason why Penny agreed to play for such a small contract was because he believed he would get an opportunity to show the league that he was back from inury and still one of the top backs in the league but the Eagles refuse to give him the opportunity. Yes, he did have one holding call that brought back an AJ Brown touchdown but when you get beat on pass protection as he did on that play, it's more important to hold a guy and save Jalen from injury much like when a cornerback is going to be beat for a touchdown so he takes the holding call in order to save a touchdown. I just don't get it. A back like that with our offensive line could actually demoralize an opponent when you are leading by two scores and are stuffing the ball down their throats. I just don't get it.

I think Rashaad Penny has something left in the tank that he can still play , and proved to them that he could rack that yardage and get the first down, and instead relying on Number “1” risking his injured legs! Thanks for the info about Penny. But I like to simplify the answer. This is just my opinion, Steve's answer is backed by in depth research. I believe the Eagles rely mostly on Hurts with the Brotherly Shove. Plus when you only have 1 football and 60 minutes. There can be an actual "Too much of a good thing" I believe Eagles signed both Swift and Penny as insurance policies on each other. But Swift showed more upside during training camp. Plus with Gainwell being an actual draft pick of ours. I believe the plan was to mainly use 2 RB's in our normal rotation. Which we have seen. I don't have an answer for Scott, but he seemed to be a solid red zone target last year 🤷 As far as Penny. I believe the Eagles haven't needed to use that insurance policy. I don't believe we will trade him, because the season is only halfway over, and you never know. A fan made a comment a week ago, saying they should hold Swift back so the Eagles could resign him for least money in the off season. Clearly I mentioned that wasn't a good idea, especially when we are trying to win a SB. However, It makes me wonder if the Eagles know we can't sign both, most likely no RB to a higher money contract, since the RB position is clearly undervalued. But here is an idea. Let's say the Eagles liked what they saw from both Swift and Penny. But Swift was the favorite. Would it be to much of a stretch to think, the Eagles salary cap will get tougher and tougher as we reach the end of some of these rookie contracts. So keeping that in mind. Is it possible the Eagles are putting Penny on ice, hoping teams may forget about him. (Kind of like how Gainwell, who was talked about being a high draft pick during the CoVid season. But he decided to sit out, and the Eagles got basically a steal drafting him a year later) Maybe the Eagles are hoping we can resign him on the cheap in the off season. When most teams basically forgot about him. 🤷

    What's up Orlando! Those numbers are specific to a particular area of the field, the red zone. They're not representative of his play between the 20s. Over the last two years, when healthy, Penny averaged over 6 yards per carry, and his career average is 5.7 yards per carry. This is really informing people that over the last three years he hasn't been a red zone back, despite his size. Even in Seattle, he was used in a similar role. The break in case of emergency back. The injuries seem to have caught up to him a little. His leg break seems to have really hindered him so far in the 2023 season. He wasn't terrible in the preseason, but he didn't have that same juice in his legs either. This might just be a lengthy rehab and heal, or it could be indicative of a larger issue with age and injuries catching up. It's tough to really say without seeing him used in a consistent role. Some people think they're keeping him fresh for the post season. I don't know about that. We saw this same thing last season with Trey Sermon. What I'm trying to get people to realize is the coaching staff didn't identify him as a 3rd down, 2-minute, red zone back. That's an attribute more so of Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott. Both of these guys are true to that role. However, as good as Kenny G was last year in that role, he's struggling with it this year, and he's now put the ball on the ground 4 times in under 250 total touches. You can play a guy out of a slump, but ball security is a much larger underlying issue, and that normally gets you removed from the field at least temporarily. To me, the staff is likely going to give Kenny G one more opportunity this week. However, with the bye week following this game, if it still doesn't look right, I wouldn't be shocked to see Boston Scott get a larger role, and Rashaad Penny could be activated. Once upon a time, he returned kickoffs. If they shuffle their rotation, by the way, not a guarantee; but they might need to shuffle ST play too. It becomes a matter of whether they would keep Boston returning kicks, or do they take some of the workload off of his special teams use. We won't really know until or unless that first domino falls, Kenny G being reduced in his role.

    @@CoachHeitter They brought him in on a prove it deal. What is he proving from the bench? That’s all I am trying to say. Before he was signed he had to pass a physical, in the preseason they got a chance to see his game and the organization could of cut him if he didn’t fit the bill and could of found someone else all I’m saying. They don’t even use him on kickoff? If he’s that awful why waste a roster spot.

  • @CoachHeitter

    @CoachHeitter

    8 ай бұрын

    @@orlandorosado6171 I think they view it as you're only 1 play away from needing a back, and he is the most proven guy between the 20s of their reserve backs. Now, I can't say for sure that Rashaad Penny is first up, knock on wood, in a situation where D'Andre Swift is injured. It probably depends on the nature of the injury, the length of the injury, and even to this day, how they feel about Kenny G. Those are things we really don't know unless that type of situation occurs. However, they would need another body, whether he's primary or in a reserve role. With that said, I would say watch out for how they shape the roster over the next two weeks. We got a list of guys returning, and we will need roster spots. I don't think Rashaad Penny is 100% safe from being cut, and signed to the practice squad.

I believe that Swift only managed to come off the bench because it was hard to ignore how impactful he was over gainwell. I think Penny is off the field to avoid us banging the doors down to see more Penny than Gainwell.
