Hi Chuck, glad I was able to catch this video. I have lived in Alaska all my life now for 76 years and have always lived remote until about 20 years ago when I moved to the road system to be close to the VA healthcare system, I was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. I live in Willow, Alaska I just recently bought a cabin on the top of Hatcher Pass and my property is well hidden. I enjoy being alone and I don't like crowds of people. I worked as a Winter caretaker for remote fishing lodges for 30 some years so I could be by myself and enjoy the outdoors and wildlife. In my 76 years, I have been charged by many bears and only two meant business and They are now hanging on my wall. I totally agree with everything you say. Thanks for providing this video to let people know, there is nothing wrong with being alone if that is what you want. Take care.

Feels like I just watched a big season finale or something...lol I can totally relate to being alone and not feeling lonely. It's like hitting a mental health 'reset button' when the world is too busy for us and we just need to relax for a bit.
Excellent video! I believe it's beneficial for us all to be alone with ourselves and nothing but nature to connect with. I go solo camping when I need alone time and the forest provides the only company I need! Being alone in the wild recharges me and soothes my spirit.
Man, Shelter, Fire and Dog. Caveman, no words required.
Great video chuck , you get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the company of your dogs for alone time . I understand when living a busy life getting away to recharge is much needed for your metal health. Thanks for sharing and all the best

@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors actually went and done some trouting this evening. Even though I didn't catch anything, I enjoyed the sound of nature around me. Looking at the beautiful sunset brought me ease.
Great topic! I'm much the same out in the woods, sometimes I feel as its a mental and physical retreat. I've even slept outside in the fall after hiking in for a hunt, just to be there early. You explained it much better that I could though. Cool get away cabin you have there. Till next time...Peace.
Congrats to the winner Chuck. Liked this little "get to know" thoughts bud and the fact of alone time being good for the soul. I love that very much; if my little cabin could talk! I worked with prov govt dealing with public and dam phones and I too don't even care if I see any more of them! Alone show contacted me as well but I figure why put myself in an early grave, at 75 yrs I figure I spent enough time under canoes in a thunder and lightning storm ahah! If I were 30 again no problem to give er a go. You are a great speaker and visionary Chuck and hope your future stays bright bud! Really enjoy your videos btw.

Tks bud. Great comment
That is a great way to explain why being alone is important to me as well; like a restful sleep. I like it!
Congrats to the winner. I love being Alone and being in the woods is my favorite place to be. have a great weekend
This really hit home with me...I get the same response from people when I go off by myself. It is scary, I guess, until you've been through it and come to the understading that being alone is not where the most danger comes from, it's from being around the masses. Once I spent a prolonged period alone, and then came back to "civilization" I felt uncomfortable with the pace, noise, congestion etc. I suppose I'm a bit weird but I just crave the quiet time and ability to be alone with my thoughts. I guess that is why I don't get lonely. It's not that I don't like people, because I do, I just prefer short interludes rather than prolonged contact. Space to breathe and a slower pace, that only comes from being away for a while, is what I need to get re-centered, for lack of a better word,
You would make a great contestant for Alone … maybe give it a second thought… have a great spring.

Hi there Chuck, you certainly did explain the feeling and insights of being alone. Spending allot of time in the Alberta Boreal I can relate and very similar in sentiment. Nice ole shack you got there and enjoy the serenity.
thanks Chuck.
First time watcher. Great description of the irrational fears associated with being alone in the backcountry.
Absolutely necessary to balance life. I'm with ya... I don't winter camp so I get sooo excited when roads are dry enough for me to just go "alone" with my pup :). Enjoy that quiet recharge!
Feelings are mutual Chuck, I never feel lonely or alone... even after living at my cabin for over 15 years now. I too have been considering applying for that show, as it would be a challenge in many ways! Nice footage of the Borealis show by the way! I just got home tonight and am catching up on KZread videos before heading out tomorrow on a camping trip.

I got over being alone in the woods because I was tired of waiting for someone to go! Besides I feel safer there than anywhere around people! My dog is always ready to go, he's good peace of mind as he's a big boy.
Great conversation Chuck being alone is so different for so many people I to think I could be by myself for a long period of time but I don't know never really been in that situation but when it came right down to it I would probably be craving the comrades of being around other people's
I’ve watched every single episode of that series. Many times it’s the contestant who has the ability and mental fortitude to be alone who wins not necessarily who has the greatest skills. Chuck I think you are selling yourself short. You have great outdoor skills and mental fortitude. You should do it!!!

Always wondered if you ever felt alone or lonely. I guess you answered those questions. Interesting and informative video. Would love to see you on the show "Alone". I think you would give them a run for their money. Enjoyed the video and awaiting the next.
Interesting perspective to hear you say that hunger or other factors would take you out of the competition before lonliness. I know myself well enough to recognize that would not be the case for me. Lonliness would be my downfall. I am an avid outdoorsman and retired Canadian Armed Forces mbr, so being outdoors is nothing foreign but I recognize in myself for example after a few days or a week at my cabin to "get away from it all", I am starving for human interaction so much that I'll sometimes pack up early and head home. I beleive that one of the reasons is that my career was based entirely on teamwork and reliance on your team mates that it has carried over into my retirement yrs as a factor contributing to my uncomfortableness with being alone for an extended period of time. Interesting to analyze and recognize that we are all different. Thanks for the great video! Congrats to the Bluetti winner, youre gonna love it!!

I’m with you Chuck. Being alone isn’t that big of a deal. I love to get away to the cabin to rejuvenate, alone. I was also in the business of public service for over 30 years and getting away helped me a lot near the end of my career. Keep up the great content. 👍
Another great video. As a retired long haul truck driver I enjoy my alone time. I think people like us that live off grid and enjoy the outdoors and nature and a simpler life style just have a different mind set than the majority of people. Not saying it’s better or worse just different. Being uncomfortable when alone or nervous in the bush or scared of animals is just unthinkable. Put me in downtown Toronto or Chicago is a completely different story I guess it’s all about what’s familiar to you.

Enjoy, the 24 weekend at then Trailer with the family
Totally enjoying my morning tea, sitting by the stove at the cabin on the 2-4 weeking listening to everything outdoors. Congratulations to the winner! I may just have to purchase a bluetti since for some unreal reason I haven't won either on here yet. (Lol) Oh my, that bear mat brings back a bad memory for me. To make a long story short, we where visiting some friends at a remote cabin by boat, cell phones was something captain kirk owned, and the Ladies had a fear of bears and would not go to sleep without it being put down. A recipe for disaster. I would rather hear a bear scratching at the door than go through that again. I could not agree with you more on wanting solitude.. at times.. especially when that includes the great outdoors. Being totally alone in the back country makes time slow down, your mind gets reset, a feeling of relaxation and peace along with many other benefits. And yes, there has to be a balance where you need people to interact. I think sometimes people get stressed out because they haven't found how to escape from what's stressing them, be it alone or a hobby. I have found 3 solid hide-a-ways,..remote cabin, metal detecting, and gardening. Nothing weird about wanting to be alone. A friend asked me one time if i was depressed because I wanted to be alone when I would to go in the woods... ha ha .. absolutely the opposite. When you speak about fear of being alone in the country i too have never felt that... But... As I get older and I can't seem to do physically what I could do when I was younger ( tired feet, muscle in back hurts, cramp in hand, etc.). I am not sure if that is fear but I feel better knowing that I have a cell phone, at least my wife feels better also. I am always amazed how small technology has made this world. Some time back I noticed that we have a common friend on Facebook, we worked on a couple of projects together, and I asked him how he knew you. He said that he was contacting you about a show on off gridding. I now suspect this was that time. If you do decide follow up on the offer, it should be an interesting experience. I haven't watched any of those shows yet but I will. A bit long winded comment today but thats what cabin life and solitude does to a person.

Certainly do enjoy being alone. After spending 25 years in a classroom of students, I treasure the peace and quiet that solitude allows. Sure do enjoy having Otis with me though as he just exudes excitement out of the very core of his being with being outside on an adventure...no matter where or how small. Indeed, being my one's self gives an opportunity for the brain to reset itself I feel, and gives me that little extra recharge to help face the world once again. Nope, not weird, that's for sure! lol Congrats to the winner...that's the prize of the century!!
