I am also a 49 and ended up with the wide 48, which is still too narrow. The biggest issue is actually the shape of the last, they curve inwards instead of following a natural foot shape (straight). The CX201 is better, but it doesn't come in a wide version (but does come in 49, although I haven't been able to find it). I guess Bonts are the only shoes that has the straight last and a wide fit as well

The 49 foot person is underserved 😢

I really need a 49. I have wide feet, and there's nothing else apart from the Bonts that will do the trick, but I just don't like a super stiff shoe. I can never get comfortable with it.

Yep Bonts are not for everyone. They are overly stiff for most people. I just took another video today of someone I think would have benefited from a 49 shoe. He ended up in a 50 but since it was a lower model he doesn't have any molding capabilities. I will probably finish the editing and release it Sunday 4/28. Thanks for watching please consider subscribing.

I am a size 50 and i literally have to buy whatever there is at the time if i was a smaller size i could get the ones i actually want luckily i found Shimano mostly caters for the larger footed even doing a wide fit in the bigger sizes lake never have stock in the UK.

This gentleman's feet look like they're amazingly healthy for someone his age... no bunions, hammer toes, etc., the typical damage one sees from years of wearing shoes. Hence, I noticed he wore flip-flops into the store which may explain his happy feet! That being said, I long for the day when Lake (and all other cycling shoe manufacturers I'm aware of) start making shoes that are actually shaped like human feet and not dress shoes. It's pretty clear that this man's toes point straight forward from the base joint like mine do, but the CX238 is going to force his big toe and small toes unnaturally inward for no good reason other than style. Hence the overly large size 50 feels better because it's not crushing his toes, but the end result is this odd space in front of his toes that is purely the result of the dress-shoe shape. My size 48 MX247s are a good 1/2 or so longer than my feet, but the space isn't used by my feet because it lands in front of my middle toe when my big toe is the longest. Lake shoes have extremely rigid toe areas (either for protection or to hold the leather's shape) and so there's nothing one can do to modify the shoe for some "give" in the toe area. Lake is making strides to create "foot shaped shoes" with their CX201 and MX201 shoes that have the Comfort Plus last. That last has a wonderfully roomy, wide toe area unlike any other cycling shoe I've seen. Hopefully more models will follow with dual BOA, heat moldable heal cups, and more leather up front.

I have the same problem with the CX219, I am a 50, but their shoe is slightly too tight. They have no 51, next bigger size is 52 :( so weird and unfortunate, as there is not a lot competition in this size segment.

The MX238's I tried had the same issue, insanely aggressive and - what felt to me like - elevated toe box.

Explain what you mean by “insanely aggressive” - that’s an interesting term for describing a shoe fit

I've wondered this too. I run a pair of Lake Super Cross 237's in a size 48 and they fit fine with thin sock. In the fall I'd like to run a thicker sock, which I could only do if they came in a size 49. Has Lake ever told you why they don't make a size 49?

It’s possible they may make a 49 in the future watch this space as they say. According to most of the rumors I’ve heard they say there isn’t that much demand for a 49 or 51

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I figured it had to be a demand type of thing. I am a big fan of Lake shoes in general. I find them to be very high quality and worth the money. I run their moldable carbon insole in mine and like them a lot.

All cycling shoes taper the toes. Both the little toe and big toe. Its is so stupid.

I agree with you. Only Bont will step out of the norm and make a shoe that doesn't come to a point.
