As a Hispanic women myself this makes me so upset. Not only did she blatantly accuse two Hispanic women (which is one of the biggest community's who's kidnapping/missing cases often go without care or are delt wrongly) but she also harmed and stereotyped a whole community! Knowing he’s divorcing her and trying to get full custody of the kids, makes it hard for me to believed he was involved in anyway. That was his endgame? I actually think the husband was skeptical from the beginning (hence the awkward 911 call) but not part of it. Living with and being in love with a narcissist had him confused and maybe even brainwashed to an extent. He knew deep down there was a possibility that she could have run off with someone else. I think the insincerity that people are seeing in the husband is that doubt in the back of his own mind that is telling him she is capable of hurting him and his children, but he doesn’t necessarily want to paint her in that light to the public. I also have a feeling that when he made that initial call, he had no idea how big this was going to get or how far she was going to let this go until it was too late.

Sherri sounds like an absolute nightmare person. The way she made her husband worry, leaving her kids behind, and the liberties she took after the fact are all just staggering to me. It's hard for me to even conceptualize the thought process behind everything she's done.

Have you covered Sherri’s old classmate’s story? Her name is Tera Smith, there were articles that stated the kidnapping that Sherri described is similar to what people believe happened to Tera. It is still a cold case to this day. I want to add that they were attending the same high school at the same time back when Tera went missing. Another reason I hate that Sherri faked her own kidnapping because someone close to her home actually went though this and she reopened those wounds to that poor family.

This case still has me intrigued. What was going through her mind? And her poor husband and kids. Knowingly leaving your family for days, making them so scared. How do you do it? I just can't wrap my head around it. It's just cruel.

I figured she had faked it, but what pisses me off the most is that the prosecutors said they will ask for the minimum sentencing of maybe 8 - 14 months. That is insane. Even more insane is that her husband is still with her. FFS how crazy is that.

Sherri Papini has made it a million times harder for REAL kidnapping victims to be believed! I hope they give her the maximum punishment. SMH.

My only thought is WTF,the amount of other people that are out there that are missing & being se* trafficked that could’ve maybe been found or actually needed that money to find their loved one and the fact that someone could think to do this is just crazy too me just CRAZY

She should be ashame of her self and good for her husband for finally seeing the truth and taking the kids

I live in the same town as her and is crazy and sad that she got all this attention yet many here in our local native community have gone actually missing with no widespread coverage or anything to help. Nick Patterson for example has been missing for two years now yet there’s been barely any action taken. So many people especially natives and other minorities are so underrepresented and it’s sad to see people like Papini just get away with this when there are actual cases here

And there was another women that went missing around the same time and there was minimal coverage. Sherri got all the attention. I don’t know whatever happened with the other woman.

Something I always thought was weird was that she chose to not speak about her blight so much with media or law enforcement. Like I feel like a decent person would tell both forces everything to actually catch the people that did that to you and to make sure she won’t do it again.

This really makes me mad! When I was a teenager I was taken from my home and assaulted. I immediately ran to a neighbor’s home and asked for help. They called the police and bc my reaction was not “normal” the police instantly said I was lying. They didn’t have me to go the hospital or anything to be examined. They even convinced my parents I was lying! All because I couldn’t remember anything that happened, what the men looked like, where they took me or anything. It was so horrible! It wasn’t until I was an adult and sought counseling that someone finally believed me. So, it’s jerks like this that make the police question a victim when we are telling the truth. Twenty years later and I am still traumatized not only by my sexual assault but by how I was treated by the cops when I was at my most vulnerable. No one should have to go through that trauma.

i'm so sorry this happened to u and that horrible ppl make it worse by actually faking. i will ALWAYS continue to believe victims until there's solid proof (like this case unfortunately) to support otherwise. wishing u so much peace and healing.

I will never forget this case! It happened in Redding and my sister lived very close to them. I was an hour away at the time but would go to Redding regularly. It caused so much anxiety in so many people I know.

The harm and fear she caused to her children is something that will always be there throughout their lives. She betrayed her whole family for attention and money. She later said she was “so deeply ashamed.” She should be! And she did much harm to the Latino community. Wasted the resources of law enforcement who have REAL abductions to deal with.

This is insane. I saw the recent articles about it being faked but I didn’t know the monumental evidence against her until now. Wow. I am BLOWN AWAY at how fully committed she was to this. The restraint rashes, the branding, the bruises at different stages of healing, all of it. Wow. She’s going to go down in history as someone to the likes of Teresa the fake 9/11 victim. This is insanity. I hope she receives the maximum penalty for this.

@@joanmcnulty2221 She disappeared on purpose for about three weeks (stayed with an ex-boyfriend) and led everyone, the public, law enforcement, the media and her husband and children to think she had been abducted. She did it because she's an a pathological liar and an attention w***e.

The moment her own parents doubted her story, I felt pretty confident Sherry was lying. I held back my harsh opinion on her, because everyone seemed to support her, and believe her story. I feel absolutely horrible mostly for her husband and kids, they are going to have to deal with for years to come. I hope Keith finds comfort in his loved ones and is able to move forward with his life.

I feel bad for her children because of the stress that they went through when she was gone for those three weeks, having to watch their mother be arrested, and now there's a good chance that she's going to jail. I was working in a local salon at the time and everyone was so freaked out after she “went missing” no one was to work alone or walk to the car alone. Every person was on edge after this. I remember on thanksgiving when she was “found” that’s when I first thought it was faked. Seemed too good to be true. And once she never really wanted to talk about the situation to maybe protect other women a lot of people started calling her a faker. If I was kidnapped and by the grace of God returned I’d be shouting from the rooftops on women protecting themselves while running or out walking in secluded areas.

Her speaking out could potentially STOP her “attacker” Redding is a pretty small town in comparison so people tend to look out for eachother. If she gave her whole story and it was legit many would vigilante in keeping an eye out. And I’m not talking she should have spoken out the second she came back but even years later when asked she wouldn’t talk. It’s very sketchy coming from a smaller town. Every female was terrified they would be next because it seemed so random. I get it if her attacker was real and still out there. But it’s so hard to say. I’d want every single person to be aware of WHO did it so it didn’t happen to anyone else and maybe they were not so lucky to have made it out alive, personally I couldn’t sleep at night if that were the case. But now that we all know it was her ex it makes the whole situation that much more slimy.

That’s what made me skeptical. True many non Latinos refers to brown people speaking Spanish as automatically Mexican. Even though there is a whole continent of different Spanish speaking countries. And the way she described them something wasn’t sitting right. At the time. Of course I assumed something happened but it felt really off. I said to myself if she is lying, then she is a pos. Haha right?! When she said “annoying Mexican music, and that she was fed only rice and tortillas” made me crack up as a Mexican descendent myself. But it all sounded so stereotypical..and in my mind, who would describe music as “annoying” when captive? I feel like I would just call it the genre of music it supposedly was and not describe it as annoying or anything really.

@@fraggelrock9974 I don’t think any husband would ask their wife to run off with an old boyfriend for 20 days. Plus if he had been in on it- the burner phones would have had some evidence, or otherwise.

what enrages me is knowing that she's fully enjoying the attention she's getting whether it's positive or not

just like other commenters have said, this woman has done so much damage. there's a nonzero chance that, going forward, when someone says that they were kidnapped and/or assaulted, ppl will think "yeah that's exactly what sherri papini said", as if there's not already enough ppl who don't believe victims. utterly disgusted and so angry. this woman is VILE
