I have been a history professor for 27 years. It is appalling how little students know about the history and how easily they believe all the antisemitic rhetoric they are hearing on colleges. You ask them what river and what sea they are chanting about, and they can't tell you. You tell them Gaza was controlled by Egypt not Israel from 1948-1967 and they look at you with this blank expression. You ask them why are upset about Israel and not real atrocities that nations like Iran and China commit and they can't even tell you what is going on in those other nations. It is both depressing and funny. And for anyone who does actually want to know the history of Israel I am more than happy to share my lectures.

I'm a Christian, an ex leftist atheist who hated Jewish. It turns out that I'm a PhD candidate and one of my closer friends is a cultural Jew from Israel, Jerusalem. I can't believe how many things we have in common and how thankful I have become to Jewish x Culture. I might keep saying that Jesus is my God and you that the Almighty is the only one. But at the final of the day we know that our religions are pacifist in their fundamentals. We will keep having disagreement but we know that we are open to dialogue and honest discussions. If anything happens, I will support you by any ends and I know that a lot of Christians will do it too.

That fits w a culture that does suicide bombing & uses kids as human shields. Being raised (atheist) Jewish I found that interpretation shocking, but it makes sense. There are always lots of ways to interpret Torah (or Q'ran or whatever). I don't know what Christian culture does w the story of Abraham & Isaac, & I am now curious . . . . It's changed w youth because gen Z in the states (at least on college campuses) has bought into the bs that Israel is a white colonial power, but the older generations of African Americans loved Moses for freeing the slaves. Much appreciated, now go out into the world and spread the truth. It might not be a Christian trait to hate Jews. All that tells me is that they are not good Christians. But that does a not solve the problem. As humans with all the normal failings and frailties, they sink to their baser natures, and not recognising the error of their ways, never try to improve. That's the problem. Mankind has to take this notion to heart. Recognise the worth of every other person and even if you don't like them, don't mistreat them.

I believe conditions weren't so great in Arab countries after Islam rose and began to spread throughout the region. Christendom learnt the lesson after 1500 years of infighting, became a bit more secular and it helped, not perfect by any means but workable. The Islamic world may still be 600-700 years behind. Turkey under Ataturk emerged to start becoming a modern state. Then they had an aberration some 20 years ago and regressed. There is not one Arab state in the ME that is a democracy, that grants women equal rights, not to mention minorities or LGBT groups. That tells you how far they lag behind the west.

Thank you for this very helpful discussion and tracing the history of Israel and the Jewish people and for showing how they were victors in every war, even though 6 Arab states lined up against them as soon as Israel was made a nation in May 1948. The writer below 'History for the ages' said 'its appalling how little students know about history'...That is so true and the ignorance of the younger generation has made them naive and easily influenced. (That is tragic and partly due to schools erasing history as a subject in schools). No doubt Marxism was an influence in this area. Another area of ignorance is the Bible. Wherever students neglect to read the Bible, there is no understanding of what God's plan was for mankind and the Jews. God gave Abraham and his seed the promise they would inherit the land of Israel (hence Abraham went to this land God gave him). There is also total ignorance about the Hamas in Gaza and their mindset as the mainstream news only shows children who are injured but no longer speaks about oct 7 and the barbaric attack on the Jewish people who were peaceful and living in Israel. The recent interviews with hostages that were released tell horrific stories of rape and torture (even in captivity) and of the slaughter of over 2,00 people Oct 7. Tragically, there is no understanding by the pro Palestinian protectors at Universities, that the Hamas would treat them in the same way if they came to live in the West. The radical Islamic agenda is to annihilate every Jew and to take over the land of Israel. This means anyone who does not agree with Islam is 'an infidel' (Jew or Christian) who must be killed as well. There is also a verse in Romans saying 'has God cut off the Jews?' Apostle Paul answer 'never' as God has made a life long covenant which is to last forever and ever. He is a God who cannot lie. (Sadly, many in the western churches have not read this passages and so have not understood God will still stand with His people the Jews to the very end. This is because the church didn't teach the full truth of the Bible often after the Year 300 and as a result passed on church traditions instead of reading the Bibe to find out for themselves. This is partly why Hitler was able to kill so many Jews as the church didn't resist often, but there were however ones like Corrie Ten Boom 's family hid Jews and others helped them escape concentration camps by smuggling them out to safer countries. The recent wonderful film "One Life' shows how one man sought to save the lives of all the Jewish children he could save by transporting them out of Ukraine before the Nazis came. That man saved hundreds of innocent children- many who were already orphans, as he saw their plight and had a conscience. As it happened his grandmother was Jewish too. He showed the world what one man can do to fight anti Semitism and to save lives. Anne Franke's Diary also tells the inside story of those terrible days of persecution in WW2.) God warns 'those who curse the Jews will be cursed.' (That is true and he will be He judge on the final day) and 'Those who bless the Jews will be blessed.' Thank God He is a faithful, and all knowing Judge. Thank God He will protect His people and their Land in the end times.

It's very simple, the land is the land of Israel. Jews are the ones that were expelled from the land. If you are a follower of Christianity or Islam, you must know that both are BASED on the Hebrew bible. In the New Testiment and in the Quran it is very clear that this is the land of Israel. The "Palestinians" are the Arabs of the land, they flee the war in 1948. The ones that stayed are Israelis now. I thought this talk was interesting bc he brings in the character of Haman as sourced in a talmudic commentary from bereishit in the context of 'Did you eat from [=hamin] the tree in the garden that i told you not to eat from..?'. And what upset Haman- (the 2nd in command ) the most was Mordechai (and his people) that refused to bow down to him. Im thinking there's a parallel story of Yosef and his brothers who tried to murder Yosef after he related his dreams to them about bowing down to him. Yosef also became the 2nd in command. (Yosef's response to their hateful actions is famous). And then we read the story of Esav ... the first born who became the 2nd born....whose hatred was inherited by Eliphaz and Amalek. Did King Shaul try to emulate Yosef by sparing King Amalek? Edom- the cultural empire of Esav- consequently is motivated to hate and trying to annihilate the Jewish people because we don't bow down to their King, Jesus. The Muslims are motivated to hate us because we don't bow down to their King, Mohammed. The parallel with Yosef and his forgiveness of his brother's hatred is fascinating. His forgiveness is based on his understanding that his brother's actions were the Will of Hashem in order to ultimately save his people.... there are parallels to this now... that Hashem has orchestrated this terrible hatred of us from the nations in order to ultimately...save us? That is what we read in zohar...'Don't be afraid (at acherit hayamim) because I do this all for you'. As crazy as that seems....Rabbi, what do you think of this?
