The improvement in conditions for animals before they are killed for food is not the prettiest site for animals. yes these ranchers and farmers could make them better. My problem is the consumer always pays the price. The consumer does want a good product w/o the inhumane way of selling the product. Just like with the industrial revolution with all the pollution and labor laws therefore the product has to be sold to the consumer at a higher price for the better conditions. Now here in Oregon our eggs caged-free are twice the price. We don't even get a choice. If you don't believe me you can look for yourselves. Yes I have eaten fresh farm eggs whether caged free or not are the best. But when an industry like egg, pig farming, and ranching, the product should live humanely and killing an animal for food ( there is no method I know can not be done correctly than what is all ready done) for production for millions of people to eat. When the government decides cage free all laying egg farms is best for the consumer, then consumer cannot afford to buy the product at double the price. I believe the government has stepped over the line. Yes we need laws to be more humane to egg laying chickens but don't pass it on to the consumer. I know the government has given them a tax write off for this regulation. They didn't do that for cattle ranching, if they did i didn't notice the difference in price only when there was a shortage or like right now, it is still $5.99 LB which is ridiculous. No wonder there are so many food banks and feed the children ads. Plus when most schools have a breakfast and lunch program. I feel the government is making things worse by their regulations.
