Skincare story that only you (& other skincare lovers) will appreciate. So...I’m currently in the hospital - sepsis, aka infection in my bloodstream, that has unfortunately also found its way into my spine & lungs, so not something I’d recommend- and have thus been pretty darn sick the past week that I’ve been here. Only late yesterday did I start to feel a bit like myself & today the biggest indicator? An actual skincare routine!! Still couldn’t wash at the sink so that’ll be the next excitement but it still felt FAB, working around my oxygen & IVs be d*mded! Nurses were surprised I was doing as much as I was but it made me feel SO much better...not b/c I care about what I look like atm but b/c it feels good & I enjoy the routine itself.🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyhoo, always appreciate hearing your thoughts, & thanks for keeping me company while I’m in lock-up (aka hospital-land). 🔆Melissa in Ohio

There is always more to the story but at the end of the day,we should be giving this man credit for starting THIS company and HIS products. He was the visionary behind it all. This is a weird comment, but I also like how their packaging is so gender-neutral. A lot of guys tend to avoid "skincare" because it seems so feminine with the pink packaging, and smelling like flowers and stuff. Like, it's not even that it threatens masculinity or "looks gay" or whatever. It's just the branding seems very exclusive for women. When the package is more pink and flowery than a box of tampons, a man is generally just going to overlook it, because the marketing says "this is not for you". I really appreciate how the Ordinary doesn't market itself as "turning you into a beautiful woman", but instead as just providing good cosmetic care to your skin no matter who you are.

True story. I remember many years ago my brother made me pick up a face mask for him. I said "why can't you buy it yourself?" He then protested that the (tiny) bow on the lid meant that it was for females. And he didn't wanna come across a certain way buying it. Back then I laughed and said that is ridiculous, just go and buy it, but he didn't; I ended up buying for him instead. I forgot about that, until I saw your comment and got reminded about it.

@@jessiepolana800 Honey. You have no idea who you're talking to, first of all. Don't come at me talking about what "men" think. I even explicitly said that it's not about fragile masculinity. Who said it was embarrassing? I'm just saying I usually just overlook it. I've genuinely confused certain skincare products with makeup before, because it just looks like it's for making your appearance look more feminine, which is not the style I'm going for. Like, for instance, women can shave with the same razors men can. In fact, it's often the same razor but cheaper. But most women look for the razors that are marketed to women. Is it because it's "embarrassing" to be masculine? No. It's just because it's not marketing that's very welcoming to what you're intending to do. Way to take a perfectly positive comment about gender-neutral marketing and twist it, Angelina

I'm becoming a The Ordinary junkie. 😍 They're freaking perfect. They have AMAZING prices & I freaking love that shopping for their products forces you to learn about the science of skin care. On their website, you can't just get a product that says 'Dark Spot Corrector' or 'Fine Line Smoother.' You have to actually learn the scientific names of ingredients in skin care & what they do. I just started a skin care routine other than cleanser, moisturizing oil, & an occasional mask at 31, so I am now really into serums. I started using their Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% & their Retinol 0.5% in Squalane. I have their AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, but I have not tried it yet.

Random question: Can they compare to luxury brands? As someone who does have disposable income it's very frustrating when people say "you can't compare," because what I want to know is are they a good product overall or are they a good product just in their price range. Should I invest in these expensive products or do is the reality that they aren't better or only marginally better than a cheaper competitor. If the difference is significant then I find no issue investing $45 or $75 dollars, but if its marginal then I'll opt for the cheaper brand. I don't care about the exclusivity or luxury.

He said his least favorite was their Glycolic Acid because it has a pH of 3.6 He then admits he doesn't understand chemistry (duh). Acids have a low pH. If the pH was any higher, the acid neutralizes, it is literally no longer an acid, and won't do anything on your face. Any Glycolic he's using is likely in the 3.6 pH range, and he says the pH is why he burned. NO. He burned because it's a 7% concentration Glycolic, and he's likely using lower concentrations. He also disliked the Pixi Glow Tonic for having sodium hydroxide as a second ingredient behind glycolic acid and said it would strip your skin like a harsh alcohol. Which is wrong with glycolic acid as the first ingredient you better need some NaOH there to buffer it or you’d be burned to a crisp. He also criticized people for using essential oils when the person used something with a carrier oil (even certified dermatologists etc. commented that several times that this is not a problem). And many other things. I can’t remember everything and I don’t watch every of his videos but I feel like under every second video of his you will see people commenting that X or Y he say is wrong. I 100% say the ordinary does NOT market themselves for people new to skincare at all! On a lot of their products, like that red solution one, the description online literally says that people without experinace in using acids shouldnt be using it and that it CAN be harmful if not used correctly and directions not followed. They got really trendy on social media because of how affordable they are and in particular THAT solution because it "looks cool." I don't think that's their fault. As someone with really sensative skin I love that I know EXACTLY what's in the products and can pick and choose what I need/want to focus on. In the end I find other brands packaging WAY more confusing because they have all the random ingredients I don't understand. At least with the ordinary a quick Google search gives you what you need because their ingredients list is so clear. In the end, I see the negatives in this video as less negative about the brand and their formulation and more of a personal consumer choice. Overall, their products seem pretty great and I only recently put some into my routine and I'm seeing pretty awesome results! Obviously, everyone is different but the ordinary seems to be exactly as they say they are, have good ethics, and are really transparent.

About Rose Damascena Water, the rose plant itself has naturally a strong scent. I am from Bulgaria, and this ross is found only in my country. We call it a pure gold from nature, and believe me it is highly used in cosmetics and it is good for the skin. PS: i really like your content and channel-thanks for bringing awareness about ingridients in cosmetics. Sending positive energy ☺️

Typically what I would do would be to pick a particular thing in your skin you'd like to tackle, choosing one of their products that will benefit that, and choosing the one that suits your skin the best. For example, if you have oily/acne-prone skin then you would want to look into one of their exfoliators, or if you have dry skin you would look into a moisturizer. My number one suggestion for making a decision would be checking out Cassandra Bankson, she's an aesthetician on youtube who has a whole playlist on The Ordinary. Hope this helps

Try with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide they're really gentle and helps your skin to recovery from dark spots and oliness, that's a good start if you don't know how to choose the ingredients. Xoxo
