I had one of these a good decade and a half ago in New Zealand, with a 4A-GZE from the AE111 with the supercharger changed for a TD04 turbocharger, RX7 550cc injectors, Link ECU, shortened Hilux LSD and W58 gearbox. 12.8 second 1/4 mile PB. Doubling the power and lowering the gear ratios more than solves the straight line performance

So lucky!! Man I always wanted to see how these cars are to drive. Now that you compared the tech to V-Tec I can imagine how it drives as I have driven Honda Integra Type R , its not most powerful but yes very good to drive.

Great review. The 4age 16 valve engine and ae86 chassis is a legendary combination and is hands down one of the best everyday sportcars. Australia only got the 4ac (carburettor) engine in an ae86 chassis, the rest were imported. The 4age 16v engine also did duty in the fwd ae82 and ae9x corollas, which were also gems in their own right. I also believe the level of variable valve timing (vvt) in 4age engines is less aggressive than Honda vtec. Hondas have bigger cams as well. What should be mentioned is that the 4age 20 valve engine is often swapped in ae86 chassis. With 5 valves per cylinder, it is extremely potent. That has to be one of the finest 1.6L normally aspirated motors of all time. 121kw, 160nm and 8000rpm redline in a 900kg shell with lsd…it can compete with many a turbo and v8 manual cars..relatively speaking. You should do a review of an ae111 levin trueno which has stock 20 valve engine from the factory, although it’s fwd.

Hell yes, I love these kinds of car's for driving flat out because it all comes down to my own skill with no crap trying to take over. This is pure driving to me, give me a twisty road and this car, I'm in heaven. Love the movie as well, it's funny when he took his mate for a drive and he got out a puked lol Reminds me of one of my old bosses son's, he reckoned he could drive fast, so I took him for a drive, poor bugger was white as a ghost and sick when I dropped him home again lmfao 🤣

its only on the Touge that it could beat them.. going down hill.. the roads are so tight here that you cant open thous cars up.. this car is so light it just whips around the corners! no doubt this could beat them with the right driver
