    Hey Gretchen! You're so adorable, love your content. Fellow New Yorker here! I'm from downstate, Middletown/ Newburgh area. My sister goes to Siena College so I'm around your hometown from time to time, maybe I'll see you sometime in between your semesters! VIDEO RECOMMEND: Can you do a video talking about Alpha Phi, a little about their history and why you all pronounce Phi like "Fee"? I heard it's because the sisters thought it was more feminine? Just curious about what you girls do, the things APhi's stand for and the philanthropy. Good Luck this semester!

    Hi Gretchen I just wanted some advice on informal recruitment. So I did formal recruitment in the fall and ended up dropping out since all my favorite sororities dropped me and I didn’t feel like I fit in with the one I got. I really want to do informal recruitment this February like I just want to be in a sorority more than anything since I haven’t made many friends and I’m a freshmen. I don’t know how to really impress them and get a bid since I know they won’t accept a lot of people in the spring. Do you have any tips on what informal recruitment is like and how to get a bid?

    How do you even start a conversation with someone while rushing/ going to each sorority house? I'm such an introvert and want to rush next year but I don't really like to approach people

  • @caseyhelen3814

    @caseyhelen3814

    7 жыл бұрын

    emily rojek when you're going through rush, active sorority members know that conversations can be awkward. I can't speak for all chapters at all schools, but at my university, my chapter just finished a week-long workshop series where we trained in conversations because it's our job to really get to know the girls going through rush and effectively communicate our organization's values to them. I'm not personally introverted, but I used to be so shy as a kid so I totally understand feeling like you won't have a good enough conversation with the girls, but when you find the right house that you click with you won't have to worry about it because you'll make that connection with the girls. I've always been awful at initiating conversations, but I still received a bid from the house I wanted all along. Sororities are a lot of great things but they are first and foremost sisterhoods of women that lift each other up, support each other, and give back. There are lots of introverted women in my chapter, and they are just as included and loved as the extroverted women. So if you're introverted you have nothing to worry about, there are extroverts and introverts in every chapter. And if Greek life isn't for you, that's also okay. College is full of so many organizations and opportunities for you to branch out and do the things you love. You'll find something that fits you.

    Id just like to add to Gretchens point of the commitment of a sorority.. It is a commitment and not something to take lightly. You will probably hear the saying "it's not 4 years it's for life." . It's true! Of course there are ways to disaffiliate but for the most part this is a life long commitment. Also members in collegiate chapters have obligations to fulfill (being present at events)in the chapter so if you are afraid of being overwhelmed that is something you will need to decide for yourself. It's not like a club in highschool where you meet once a month or less. You will have to make time for both school and sorority. That's just my 2 cents. P.S I have been in my sorority for about 3 years and have seen many women not aware of the commitment it is.

  • @evelynnb1813

    @evelynnb1813

    hey girly, usually rush is later in the evening to help accommodate for people with later classes BUT I recommend two things 1. making a friend in that class that you have at 5pm just in case- to take notes for you if attendance inst mandatory in the class - if you happen to need to miss a class/if rush happens to intervene with your class schedule - but classes are in my opinion more important so 2. if you are able to talk to your Rho Chi about your conflicting schedule they should be able to help you out.
