I can almost guarantee that it was gpa is why you were dropped. I would deff recommend going through it again when your grades get better especially as a junior as you now aren’t counted towards quota.

I love how positive you are about it still! I have like the exact same story when I rushed the first time my sophomore year, had two houses and then one which I didn’t want to feel like was my only option. I kinda gave up on the idea of being in a sorority although I still wanted to be in one and 1 1/2 years later I ended up informally rushing and am now a member of Pi Beta Phi! If you’re still interested I highly recommend informal if your school has it or even going through formal again. The rush process is just as intense for the pnms as it is for the members in the houses. Sometimes things don’t always work as planned, good luck to you!

This same situation actually happened to me this semester as I went through rush week and I thought I did really well & when you mentioned the GPA thing it made me think that ... I mean I'm hoping is why I ended up getting dropped too. My cumulative GPA definitely met the requirements but my school undergrad GPA fell a little short.

I go to a school where very few people get dropped so take that into consideration. But as the recruitment chair, I have some insight into how invites back and bids work. I will say GPA is a big thing and one of my now sisters transferred and the same thing happened to her, we had to wait a year to have her join. As a group the Panhellenic community choices rules on things like GPA but there is also only a certain amount of girls you give bids and invite back. Being dropped doesn't mean that a sorority doesn't like you, its all a matter of how many girls they can take sometimes. Which is heartbreaking but its the only way to keep the system fair, I would definitely say if you felt at home somewhere reach out and see if they have something continuous open bidding or COBing events. Hope this helps, I think this is a really important video to make and I'm glad you did.

Omg, the same exact thing happened to me. I am super outgoing and Im the type of girl that loves going out. I meshed super well and I swore I could’ve been in their introduction video, but I was dropped by all of the top houses, who also happened to have the highest GPAs on the row. I was actually so shocked the next morning after the first round to have been dropped by all my top houses. But then the only explanation could’ve been my grades, too. So I’m so happy that someone else can confirm this.

I went thru the same thing. I feel GPA was also an issue because I had to undergo surgery and missed some classes (even withdrew from one the year I rushed). I spent the rest of my college career trying to catch up and boost my GPA. It never got above 2.8...so frustrating.

my school also does rush in the spring and now being on the opposite side of recruitment i realize how messed up the process is. the girls literally stalk PNMs on social media and invite girls out the first semester so that they already have a list of who they want when rush comes. the system is also all numbers and some sororities may rank you lower because they think you are going to choose a certain sorority which leaves a lot of girls getting bumped out by accident, so for anyone that feels upset about getting dropped do NOT take it personally, the whole process is just a complete mess and you will still have an amazing social life!! after realizing how horrible sorority life is at my school I ended up dropping a year later and am much happier :)

my school rushes in the fall, therefore the potential new mems only have a week to be in college and by week 2 they're in a chapter. Almost no one gets dropped out of every house at my school. The only people who do are the ones that are no shows or drop out of the process themselves. Rushing in the fall is so much better because there are no pre-assumptions about girls and pretty much no one knows the new members unless they went to high school with them. GPA is a huge consideration though. I know that if you do not make GPA, no matter how great you are can not get you into the chapter.

I don't normally comment on you tube videos, but as someone who was in a sorority all 4 years way back when and has been on the other side cutting, I can tell you that pretty much the only thing that causes that kind of mass release off the first round is gpa and/or junior status. Some sororities take a very limited number of juniors and all of them have minimum GPA requirements. That is also why your Panhellenic does formal rush in the Spring, they want to see if the freshmen and transfers keep their grades up. Sororities generally have release figures based on their size and return averages from previous years. They usually want to invite back as many women as possible off that first impression, and the easiest way to make their release figure is do a sweeping cut with the GPAs. Some have national requirements for GPA that are higher than your Panhellenic's requirement and they MUST release anyone below it, no matter how much they love her.

S180 120 Hi! Informal is totally different from formal. There’s a lot less pressure and it’s a more casual atmosphere. If you know a sorority you’re really interested in being apart of is doing informal, I recommend going to as many informal recruitment events and talking to as many sisters as possible!

I rushed as a sophomore (and was a transfer student) and was told by people from the very beginning that it was more difficult to rush as a sophomore. They told me I should expect to get dropped right away from most (if not all) of the “top” houses based on that alone. My gpa was never an issue though, so I ended up joining a sorority I liked, but it probably wouldn’t have been my absolute first choice if I had been invited back to most of the houses I ranked at the top. I don’t know if this is a big factor at other schools though.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I know recruitment at marylamd is going on right now but if your grades have improved. I almost guarantee that's what happened. I was in ZTA at UMD a long loooooong time ago and I totally agree with the preconceived notions bit having recruitment in the Spring. I was lucky that I was a commenter and because of that had literally heard nothing about any chapter. This was before social media as we know it (dating myself lol) so I couldn't even stalk IG lol! I'm really glad of it because I ended up exactly where I belonged.

Okay from my personal stand point you can be dropped by gpa, values are not similar and if you talked about something that you shouldn’t have been talking about. Like if you had a good conversation and you kinda said something that you felt ok talking about and this house member felt that it was a bit out there they cut you. Sometimes if someone knows you personally and they DONT want you they can argue that too

When I tried going back to College I took Spanish 1101 and I got a low C, you needed at least a 75% to go onto the next level, so I took it again and got like a 75.02 or something. But I decided not to continue with school. It's so much harder now.

It's a club basically that you drop tons of money into in order to be a member of, and they're named thing like Sigma Alpha Phi or whatever. Usually only rich white people are in them. They do lots of campus activities and charity work, but they also are notorious for being party houses. The stereotypical sorority girl is blonde, tan, and wears her Greek letters and yoga pants to school. Rush is basically when new members join but they have to go through interviews with the different houses. They have to dress up nice and it's pretty superficial imo. They reject people based on chemistry in conversation, your looks, and your GPA. You have to pay money to be in them so I always considered them to be a way to buy friends. It's good for people who are socialites and need a safety net when they're transferring from high school to college.

Freedom is a great cause and is usually well perceived by the public. and also "Crowdfunded KZread doom closets of wonderfulness"... also a great cause! and maybe, Studying! because its school! You are going to need a name for your sorority too, like Chi, witch is represented by the symbol X and holds the value 600! why 600, cause 600 wonderful bikinis in a doom closet isn't enough! You'll also need public support ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓ and so on.

Hey I’m in a sorority and I just want to explain some things. Beauty is not everything. However, let’s be real we want the best of the best! We want all of us to represent our sorority the best way: being the kindest, the smartest, the most attractive(not just physical). I know at most universities- including my own if your gpa isn’t high enough we don’t even consider you. You’re the first to be dropped off the list. Most sororities have different gpa standards but they are usually around 2.5 no lower than 2.3 but my sorority it’s a 2.7- we also consider if you have failed a class because all the girls that come in are so perfect it’s really difficult to not accept everyone. They could have wanted her but there were girls just as pretty just as kind and funny but had better grades. Also when you rush what you say really matters. If you say something that’s a little bit off you’ll be put lower on the list- this is because we can only accept a certain amount of girls and we want the absolute best. I wanted plenty of the new recruits to get in but we just didn’t have the space for them, they said something that was a little iffy(talking crap about anyone is a MAJOR no) or there grades weren’t perfect or they were just forgettable to a lot of girls. I mean most universities get A LOT of girls that come through and if we have the same conversation with 5 girls y’all are gonna just blend in our minds or be forgotten. being forgettable is a huge problem. if you’re annoyed or just finding us dull it means we aren’t connecting and we just don’t have space for girls who we don’t connect with, beauty is not everything. We are trying to form lifetime bonds and if you’re bored we are probably bored too. She’s gorgeous and seems nice but realistically there were just as pretty and nice girls that got in and it was probably because of a lack of connection and not the best grades. Hopefully if she still wants to be in a sorority she rushes again and maybe finds the right home for her in Greek life!

Jealousy and spite has no place in a sorority. We are meant to form lifetime bonds filled with love and bringing other women up and nothing less than extreme support. Sororities are filled with the most beautiful women inside and out- if someone was jealous they just would not survive in our environment because its women surrounding you non stop. There are women just as beautiful if not more beautiful in every sorority- probably including the ones she rushed. Hope nothing but the best for her and that if she connected with any girl she reaches out to them and tries again. Sororities just do not have the space for everyone unfortunately. If you didn’t connect with us, said something iffy(talking about partying too much or trash talked anyone or just stand offish), or don’t have the grades we just can’t afford to accept you. Limited space and wayyy too many perfect girls.
