i was the same 😭i'm pakistani muhajir and i spoke urdu but after moving to america as a child i lost almost my entire ability to speak urdu but i randomly got into linguistics and learned urdu for fun, now i can read and write urdu as well 💀

I’ve been a reezy for a year now and my life has suddenly took a turn better my grades, a sudden glow up, no more stress, better sleep the reasons are countless thank you Courtney for just simply making my life better!!❤

I’m igbo too and the thing with our culture and the culture of other children of immigrants is that being raised in the US or anywhere abroad kind of creates a disconnect from our mother tongues. A lot of us are passively fluent which is what you described, completely understanding a language without being able to properly speak it, but let’s strive to continue the culture so it doesn’t die with us 💪🏽. Though I am able to actively speak igbo, I’m making sure to pass it down 🙏🏽

I'm Ghanaian, but it's the same with me. My mother tried to pass the language down and spoke it to me as a baby, but for some reason, I ended up speaking English instead. Never picked up Twi or Daagare.

I have actually been considering anger management classes and therapy because the first and most recent time I went therapy they spoke to my mom the entire time and they said that I'll grow out of my anger issues but as I am older now and more mature I still feel anger over the littlest things and I think it's because I never had a father-figure in my life and that I didn't want to lose my mother to someone who is not her child as I'm her only child and one five to my father so thank you courtney for being able to spread the word about BetterHelp
