I revisit your channel to day and realized that you've uploaded another video a month ago. I understand that the way you argue about learning languages will make many people out there feel annoyed. They like to learn english through tips, tricks, methods but not principle. About me, I'm always waiting for your new videos. I love the way you approach language. Please don't stop sharing your knowledge! Thank you so much!

I have spent the past 3 month in watching these KZreadrs 3 to 4 hours daily in order to find a good way to learn English I just wasted my time and ended up by learning nothing, if only I used my time for reading and learning new words instead watching these nonsense I could definitely become much better. First thing I do is to unsubscribe those channels. You're the best teacher ever thank you so much

It seems to me that you bring a different, valuable approach to the language acquisiton. I agree with you especially on the futilility of seeking someone with whom you can practice your english; in the sense that the more you familarize yourself with a given content, the better you speak about it when it is neccesary to do so because it all starts in your brain, and making use of those words after you have gained enough understanding, even if you haven’t spoken on it much heretofore, is not actually that difficult. However, the issue with the deliberate studying of the words is much more convoluted and involved; to me, this comes down to personal preference and doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all solution, so one must experiment with both approaches her/himself and see what suits best to them.

Language is knowledge. Language=knowledge. If i have no knowledge= no language. I considered that i've no passion to english again like chilhood because today I dont know for what i learn english. Vladimir, what's the point of these crappy Hollywood movies you keep plugging? I know any exposure to the target is usually a good thing except for U tube language teaching podcasts. If one doesn't want to treat learning the target language as an academic subject, then how does the learner go about acquiring the target language? First of all, you must stop using your native language on a daily basis and try to live through the target language as must as possible in your daily life, this can be easier said than done! But the point I am trying to make is, how should one be an active independent learner? Not to be too dependent on the mass media and the internet which can be overpowering for the beginner. For one to be able to enjoy their language journey. We have to leave out movies for the beginner in my opinion. Thank you for such a stimulating podcast and letting us know your thoughts about language acquisition. Many thanks Patrick

I think you just explained why I am so frustrated at learning foreign languages. I learned English because I was geniunely interested in topics presented only in English (e.g. Hollywood movies, American/English culture). I do not learn a language to communicate with others (I am an introvert) or better my career prospects. I have been ttrying to learn Dutch and French for practical reasons. With French it's a bit better because there are some things about French culture that I am interested in, but with Dutch it's really difficult. The Dutch culture really has nothing for me. It sounds silly to me and I feel like an idiot speaking it (Sorry Dutch people I mean no offense). How would you advise me? I also do not learn languages because they sound "beautiful". I think how a language sounds depends entirely on the speaker, not the language itself.

This thesis 'language is knowledge' is somewhat flawed. To get knowledge you need to be able to communicate. You can gather as much of it as you want in a language you know, but if it can't be communicated between people it's dead in the water. And this notion that you just set out on a path to acquire knowledge through the chosen medium and it develops, is fantasy island thought. It's just another example of the never-ending conveyor belt of language 'gurus' who think they've cracked the code for learning languages. 'Be specific regarding things you want to talk about', yet 'make as many examples of things you want to talk about'? So practically everything, just like you would in your native language? That rather brings us back to square one doesn't it? The patterns and content for 'talking about' things, aside from topic-specific words, are all the same. As an adult learner these things won't just come to you on a plate through exposure/osmosis just on the back of desiring to talk about a topic and trying to pursue it through that language medium. Knowledge is not tied to any language. Thought is not language, language is a means of communicating thought, it's the other way around. Sure enough it's a great idea to copy the vocabulary and patterns functional speakers use, but that itself is no guarantee that the information is correct or if the language makes sense.
