Just a quicky! BB/CC creams aren’t colour adapting foundations. They come in shades that can suit 2-3 shades lighter or darker than that shade in a lot of cases. Colour adapting foundations literally come in one shade.. but pretend they can physically adapt to a range of shades.

I love Korean bb creams because they often have a greyish undertone (nro 21) which really matches my light olive skin. I don't find greyish or olive undertones usually in western bb products. I hate the yellow ones😬 I've tried a color adapting foundation and I absolutely hated the rubbing part and the finish didn't wow me. I do apply foundations always with fingers but it's different when the color is the exact right one and not some random one tone suits everyone shit... My skin gets red if I rub it and gentle application is different than trying to mix foundation on your face from white paint with sand particles in it!

There isn't any blush/gloss that changes with ph either. They are all typically colored with Red 27 (also listed as CI 45410), which reacts with the water in your skin. The blushes/lipsticks only look different on people due to undertones affecting the appearance.

I remember when I was in jr high, Almay came out with a shade-adapting range of foundations with little pigment pearls that burst to adapt to your skin. I am super fair, and most drugstore foundations don't work for me, and this was no exception. I bought the fairest shade that was supposed to be fair to medium. It was either white, or if I tried to blend it in, it was light medium and very yellow. It was a fool me once situation. Never again.

I think you’re better off using pigments that you add to foundation to alter the color. LA Girl Mixing pigments are great. They come in white yellow orange and blue to help alter the color or undertones of a foundation so they’re not rendered useless. And if you’re a POC forget about it. It’s not happening. The mixing pigments are fabulous and you only need a tiny bit to foundation chemistry experiment.

I guess kinda the “flip side” of having a wide variety of foundations, is that now it seems as though some brands have overwhelmed you with shades and if you’re at a store where you can’t access a sample,it makes it even more of a guessing game. Unironically what I do for my olive skin is but a green color corrector (some brands make inexpensive ones) and mix a tiny bit into my foundation. It's another product yes, but also means I'm not limited in trying to find my specific olive shade when brands all seem to think olives only exist in three medium shades if we exist at all.

@mortuuscerebri950 yeah I got the elf green color corrector and I'll use that. Right now I'm not using foundation, I just use the NYX serum concealer, and it has a pink undertone, so it works perfectly for my under eyes(I have dark circles), but I don't use it everywhere. I do like using the CC+foundation, but I have eye problems, so I haven't been doing a lot of makeup this last year or so cuz my eyes have gotten pretty drastically worse (I have exotropia, which is where my eyes drift outwards whenever I try and look at something close up)

Not sure if y'all have this brand or if it goes by another name overseas, but Almay came out with a product like this decades ago. I used to use it. It was okay. But, I'm very fair...so, there's that. I have such an issue finding something to match me. For the longest time, my options were pink or yellow. It got expensive on my limited budget (as a young woman) trying to find that match or buy two shades to mix myself. Very thankful that the shade ranges have expanded over the years. Now that I'm dealing with very different skin due to aging, I have found that CC creams work much better. Finding one with a bit of coverage took me some time. But I finally found one that has sunscreen, coverage, moisturizing, and the closest match I have ever found. You are one of three beauty youtubers that I pay any attention too. So, I hope you won't be offended that I don't watch ALL of the videos. Have you done any videos on Purlise/Yensa Beauty? I'm loving the Youth Glow Vitamin C CC Cream. (Ugh...that name is too long😂)

Even if such technology existed, it would be useless in a foundation because if it adapted to the colour of the skin, how could it possibly cover discoloration, dark circles, etc...? It would be the same thing as applying a transparent moisturizer

I remember the first time I saw this when I was in maybe high school (mid 2000s) from one of the major drugstore brands (my brain keeps picturing Hayden Panettiere in an ad but I think I’m just defaulting to her Neutrogena ads). I remember being so excited about it, but then I realized - I am FAIR. Like, almost to paper fair, and I have a lot of redness in my cheeks. It basically turned me a few shades darker and was constantly changing color throughout the day (like oxidizing, but obviously there was shifts in the pH of my skin through different amounts of sweat). It was hideous and I went back to my dream matte mousse haha. That was also orange and hideous, but I thought it would make me “tan” and no one would notice my glowing white body.

Never understood the idea 8fcolor chanhing foundation. If it would actually work then all big makeup brands would have done it by now.

Thanks for explaining the colour wheel and addition of black and white (gray). Also, the way the pigment balls pop and release. I have been leary of anything one size fits all colour changing make up. I do like and have used a UV light BB in a tube by Lancome off and on years. Ulta released a similar product later. Those are light cover with sunprotection and look super natural. The shade range was limited but two shades could be blended to a better match need be. In summer or warmer temps these BB cream types offered a nice base and day look with some added perks of hydration and sun protection. For work, all day, I would use a setting powder and they held up well with a super natural look. Not ashy. That video you inserted shows exactly why these colour changing varieties don't perform for every one. They look pastey. I would like to try a good one though beacuse of being curious. Thanks for sharing.

I actually tried that TLM brand, and it had the fragrance and performance of sunscreen. There was no color coverage at all. I passed it along (with her father's permission) to a young teenage girl at church, so she could learn and experiment with make-up.

I tried a colour adapting foundation years ago, as I struggled to find a proper colour match for my very pale skin. It went on white, but as I blended it went a sort of orangey brown which did me no favours! I learned the less I blended it, the paler it stayed which was better for me, but once I discovered BB cream I started using that instead! Although I feel like I’ve forgotten all about BB creams now, since it is possible to find pale skin foundations now - from what I remember, I did like them 🙂

I worked this out when I was younger because I got super excited that a foundation would match my SUPER pale skin tone when everything else was too dark. Turns out it was just orange beads, the disappointment was real 💔😂

Yes, and in winter you are paler and in summer you are tanned. It's natural beside you are always in a dark room and never go out.

Dating myself: I remember my sister and I getting really excited about color changing lipstick back in the 1980s. They were green in the stick. It was fun and a novelty, in the vein of mood rings. Everything old is new again.

I recently saw a shampoo ad that claimed to penetrate the hair to the molecular level. Unless it’s been heavily irradiated, I highly doubt a shampoo can do that.

I remember buying the TLM one after watching Jeffree's review. Mind you, I was new in the beauty world and had no clue about make up. The finish itself was very nice, but my skin broke out badly. Let alone that it was most likely too dark for me, but I can't remember.
