Nice video. Was just going through the same experiments with my Africa Twin. 6'1" here and it's the reason I've ridden naked bikes most of my life. I've always preferred even smooth wind, instead of it all being concentrated in one spot (usually the top of the helmet for us tall guys). I ordered a short and touring windscreen from National Cycles. The short one, though very different from stock, didnt change much, so ended up chopping it as short as I could. I now get more wind noise, but turbulance is completely gone. Great for hot weather and offroading. Also ordered a Batzen screen adjuster, and will allow me to try a few settings with the touring vstream, as my first impressions so far is that aside from having to look through and above it, it removed pressure on the shoulders, but not a huge difference in terms of turbulance vs stock. Always a bit surprising how bikes made for tall riders (most adventure bikes) seem to have been wind tested for riders in the 5'6 - 5'7" range...

Thanks for an actual review I just picked up a 2012 super tenere and I was looking into a different windscreen and I found the National v stream and looked closely at the logo and found out it’s already got one on it 😂 I’m 6’5 and I already adjusted the windscreen all the way up after about 30 miles of freeway travel and that helped but it’s still not ideal for me. I think I’m going to try a visor now

Definitely like the production value of this video...someone's been learning some new stuff....Anyways this is something I'm looking into after riding on the freeway for the first time....I've always thought shields look a bit silly on motorcycles but then my Speed Twin doesn't protect me from anything wind related at a fast enough speed. But that's just one of the many more additional things I've got to get for my bike. My wallet is already crying....As far as the helmet, I wholeheartedly agree, it makes a world of difference. I couldn't bring myself to buy a cheap one. It's gotta protect your brain and I'd rather have a functional brain than anything else...so I'll look forward to your helmet review.

Well said, I very much agree. The screens do look dorky, especially the larger they are. I think I was ruined by owning a goldwing and got spoiled. That speed twin of yours has some pretty great looking options for small screens and I'm sure some larger ones will come out. So true about the wallet though. Seems like I always need to spend about 300-600 bucks on something. Thanks!

Have a Vulcan S 650 that came with no windscreen. Bought a Puig windscreen which comes up a bit over the level of the bars and gauge. It gave a huge reduction of pressure on my chest but dramatically increased air and noise around my head. I am 6'1". I am very likely going to remove it. The problem is without the screen, any speed above about 65-70mph, gets exhausting very quickly.

It's all dependant on bike speed. I've got a little run around PCX125 scooter. On a good day 68mph is it's hopping pot. I fitted a Kappa touring screen with a top deflector. Total cost? £85 . It works really well as I only plod along at 50 to 55 but if I had a faster bike there is no way I'd fit one or when touring I'd at least keep the speed down for comfort. Bikes are just plain windy to ride it's the nature of the beast . Strong cross winds with a big screen are a real bitch, my old Matchless 650 was a nightmare but then screens in the 60s were real slabs.. Happy riding and stay safe guy's. The wrinkly rider 👤

I noticed that a larger windshield makes visor on my helmet fog-up due to reduced air flow. Also it created a lot of buffeting noise. I fixed the buffeting by adding an adjustable windshield spoiler, which however reduced airflow even further and increased fogging up. Maybe buying a different helmet with larger vents might help...

I just bought a Vstream for my NC700X and I have the same issue with a brand new Shoei Pinlock insert. I also just added a MRA Sport. I am starting to think there are really only 2 options. No medium / large windscreen upgrades as they create more noise or simply buy something tall enough to put you in the pocket of quiet air. I think stock or no windscreen is really the best as the air is undisturbed and all the vents now get plenty of air.

I have a National Cycle Wave AKA Stingray windshield, & after much experimentation realized that while wearin open face helmets & sunglasses, that buffeting can go as far as shake my prescription sunglasses to the point of causing serious headaches. The shield itself LOOKS cool as shit all blacked out (95% tint) with its jet-streamed looks, aerodynamics & precision forming. I purchased it to prevent the full force of the wind which causes way too much rider fatigue on the arms, neck, shoulders & helmet resistance at highway speeds. It also diverts air rain & road debris around me. However now I have this turbulence blowin my wrap around prescription glasses all over the place. Any suggestions? A windscreen spoiler to help deflect the wind over your head?

I feel I am an expert on motorcycle windscreens. Obviously, I am a former V-Strom owner. (2007-650) I had 3 or 4 screens on that bike and never solved the wind noise problem. One thing, I think the torso height of a rider is actually more important than than their overall height. I am only 5' 8" but I have such a tall torso that I don't even consider the height of a reviewer. I haven't tried a Yamaha FJR1300 with the electrical windshield, maybe that would solve the problem but damn that's a heavy bike.

@@motodrang4287 I am 5'7" tall. My helmet is a Bell RS2. I went with a Givi D2138S Windscreen, Smoked for my Yamaha X-Max 300 (2019). I figured out how many inches higher than the stock windscreen I needed to place the top right at nose level (about 3 inches). The new Givi screen is 4-1/2 inches longer than stock. In the top position it's too tall (I'm looking thru it). But on the bottom position (2 inches lower mounting holes) it's perfect (2-1/2 inches them the top of the stock screen) just at nose level. It's very quiet up to about 40 mph, with just the slightest smooth wind sound above that. So at higher speeds I just lean forward a little bit and it's quiet. I can feel and hear when the wind is just skimming and flowing off the top of the helmet without turbulence. Also, the wings on the new screen shield my hands very well from the wind, and I'm sure that will make a big difference in cold weather. January and February were pretty challenging! As far as effect on fuel economy, I was somewhat surprised that it improved from about 77 up to about 82 mpg (50-75 mph over the same routes). Definitely not a big drop in efficiency like I might have expected. It definitely improved.
