It’s horrific that she is being made to wait so long for a referral when her acne is so severe. The mental anguish this causes is no joke! I took a course Roaccutane in my late 20s and unfortunately my acne did return, although not as bad and has been managed since with Dianette. However I am due to come off it as I’ve been on it a long time. Looks like I’ll be going private if I need to see a dermatologist again!

My own acne problems disappeared within a year of leaving school, but that was a miserable time in itself because kids as we know can be (and were) very cruel. I geniunely feel sorry for people that suffer from it in adulthood though.

I started getting acne at age 11. I’m 31 now and still get spots. I started using Epiduo gel from the doctors about 3 years ago. It has helped a lot. I don’t have big breakouts anymore. It’s a very strong cream though so it does dry your skin out, and if you use too much it will burn your skin and leave you red and peeling. So I’m careful to only use it when necessary. All those years I never went to the doctors assuming it would just go away eventually. My mum never took me as a teenager either. It massively affected how I am now as an adult. I am very very introverted. My teen years I had friends. But I avoided at all costs talking to anybody new because I didn’t want anybody to look directly at me. Now, although I’ve got better over the years, I’m quite shy and not the chattiest in the room. So I believe it had a massive effect on the way I am today. Those important years developing my personality were hindered by me just wanting the ground to swallow me up.
