What It’s Like To Get A Chemical Peel For Acne Scars | Beauty Explorers | Beauty Insider

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A chemical peel is a skin treatment that removes the top layer of the skin. It’s said to make the skin look smoother, brighter, and younger. It also helps with hyperpigmentation and scars on the face, which is what Insider producer Caroline Aghajanian is hoping to fix. Caroline visits Blue Medi Spa in Sherman Oaks, California, to receive the $295 Perfect Derma Peel treatment. Then, for a week, the top layer of Caroline’s skin will peel off to reveal the baby skin underneath. Caroline will see how the treatment feels, if it heals some acne scars, and if it’s worth the steep price.

I am a dermatologist practicing in Bangalore. Chemical peels are the commonest procedure done in our office. The peel done here is a medium depth peel with probably a very low pH (very acidic). Such peels cannot be done in Indian skin or people with colour and can in fact worsen hyperpigmentation. The most peeling we see is with retinol based peels or retinol based sealing agents. Newer products give great results without the visible peeling shown here. It costs a fraction of what the lady here paid and we use high quality peels imported from France, Spain and USA. One session of a peel for the face would cost around 50$ for the face and upto 100$ for large areas like the back and arms. Peels are a blessing to patients who suffer from severe acne and post acne scarring and hyperpigmentation!

It's so difficult to find appropriate post peel care in India. Moisturizers just don't seem to agree with my skin, and i can feel my skin warming up after application. Even on a daily basis and not just as post peel care. I've never had a doctor recommend a calming moisturizer. Only the greasy warming ones 😭

It depends on the type of chemical peel she would have done, a phenol peel requires a doctor to perform it. Where as a TCA peel, which I believe that is what she is receiving, does not cross the dermal epidermal junction of the skin, and is within the scope of practice for a medical aesthetician. She does not look as unhappy as if she had a phenol peel. Those are brutal. A TCA peel can be done once every six months, it makes me worry that she did not show a series of chemical peel to build up for the TCA.

I just posted my before and afters on my channel incase anyone wants to see how it works on active breakouts. I hope anyone dealing with skin issues can find a resolution soon. My skin can be so terrible at times and it makes me very insecure. 😥

I would love to see this treatment on someone with dark skin. A friend in highschool had HORRIBLE acne scars. Actual honest to goodness deep marks on his face at the age of 14. He kept talking about how hard it was to find acne scar treatments for dark skin tone. They were all light colored and meant for lighter tones. I'd love to see if this would help people like him too.

the darkest i've seen it work was on quenlin blackwell and even then, he should go slow and do his research on peels (i heard vi peel is good). dark skin overproduces melanin when invasive procedures like a peel are done. melanin inhibitor pre treatments can help reduce that. if it works great on fair skin, never 100% trust it 😭😭

Ma'am this is what WFH is for, I'm literally shocked she went into the office while the peeling was that bad. Shook! Also there was a noticeable difference in the scarring before and after, I think the results were impressive! Still, getting it done 4 times as the spa recommended would be 1200$ and you'd spend 1-2 months in total healing time (cumulative) so that's a BIG investment in looking nasty and being in pain and discomfort.

Peels are almost always meant to be done in a series so if you follow the whole protocol, you'll have to buy the full size after care products. Some places won't even do just one session, you have to pay for the whole series.

except with a sunburn your skin is peeling from sun damage. I hope no one uses the sun as a way to get a cheap peel because the sun is way more damaging and will prematurely age your skin. The chemical peel is only suppose to peel off the top layer of your skin. The sun damages deeper layers of your skin and it can lead to skin cancer.

In my country dermatologists don’t approve this treatment cause they say it has damaging effects on your skin in long term. It makes the layers of your face more sensible to UV lights. You can see good effects in short time but you can damage your skin in long term. I’m afraid I have to say there is no miracle in skin-care. Skin-care is a consisting treatment that you should follow during all your life. Always be kind to your skin and avoid harsh products or treatment guys. Clean your face with a gentle cleanser, avoid heavy make-up (like foundation etc), moisture your skin and use a good sun protector (and re-apply every 2-3 hours regardless of the season) every single day. Most importantly love yourself and give your skin some time to heal itself. 😘

That peel made a definite difference in skin quality. I would continue with the full protocol. I would however be careful with the moisturizer and spf they gave you as depending on the ingredients they could clog your pores all over again. I’d probably stick with my own products that I know will not clog my pores all over again

Peels can be a great boost - but you can also get peels that don't require downtime and see wonderful results. As an Esthetician, I find that guiding clients on what to use at home is a much more effective way to deal with scarring/pigmentation. Other in office treatments like Microdermabrasion and NanoFusion are AMAZING for scars and have ZERO downtime.

isalovi people 50 years ago never had the education and technology we had. There’s nothing dangerous in typical peels. Enzymes and glycolic acid peels are packed with natural ingredients and the acids come from fruits or milk. Thats not dangerous. What IS dangerous, is not holding oneself accountable and asking about ingredients or looking them up themselves. Peels are completely safe if you go to a reputable doctors office. The acetone and dawn soap used to clean your face before hand for a peel this deep, is to strip/dry out and prep the skin.

Here in Brazil is a lot cheaper $30 each session, but does not come with the post treatment so we need to buy our own and I feel it's not that intense. Most of them (my esthetician has used different acids already) only itchies once its applies or right after removing it. Does not itch after that. I'm now free from old acne scars. I used to have cystic acne and really bad scarring. I had a chemical peel done in a doctors office in London about 14 years ago by a Consultant Dermatologist. It was done as two treatments - two full cycles of application, full peeling, healing etc. The results were outstanding. My face had once been full of scars and craters and was like brand new. It makes me laugh how this is described as painful - yes it burns and stings but it’s not painful. I will take a guess that you are blessed in life and haven’t experienced true pain, if this is what you class as painful. It’s just a little sore is all. I can’t believe this wasn’t done in a doctors office. America is crazy sometimes. 😅

I actually do see a minute difference between the before and after, and I agree that doing some more sessions (with large breaks between them) could help increase the effects. but i think i would rely more on using vitamin c as a treatment. i would also use lactic acid for exfoliating. i have acne prone skin (and when i say acne prone, i mean even when i'm doing everything im supposed to do, such as cleaning my face, changing bed sheets very often, not touching my face, not eating excessive amounts of sugars, oily, and spicy food that can cause breakouts, and etc, i still get so many pimples). and the products that really helped clear out my skin was from the ordinary, i highly recommend their brand. i would personally say that using their niacinamide every night has greatly improved my skin texture. by the way, i was wondering if anyone else here suffers from those little skin-coloured pimples or clogged pores all over their forehead or cheeks? because i feel like the root of my problems rise from that. like if i could just clear those, my problems will be solved. also feel free to recommend your own products for acne scar depletion!! of course, not all products work for all people, we all have different skin types and sharing similar skin types (oily, dry, etc) is not enough. just curious about other brands and such. speaking of which, another tip is to not mix and match too many brands, and to not use too many products, because that could just end up clogging your pores or stressing out your skin.

I had the little bumps on my forehead that you mentioned! What helped me was taking codliver oil every day. Twice the recommended dose. If you try it, make sure you get a minimally processed brand. At first I tried Rosita and it was amazing but too expensive. Now I take Nordic naturals. The bumps went away in two weeks. It's been 3 months and they haven't come back and my skin is much healthier overall and doesn't get as oily over the course of the day anymore.

I had a mild version of this peel and it really helped with my previous acne scars from my teenage years. The quarantine got in the way of my monthly facial treatment so there was a problem with not maintaining it (also a new staff fucked up a bit and I was left with more acne popping up after the last treatment). I want to do it again after I have time and the money, a package of 8 treatment, once a month, it almost cost 1000

Yeah, but the point of the review is, like the commenter above me said, to share the experience. She went through the treatment with a few noticeable scars so she could review whether or not the treatment worked. As it turns out, it was pretty helpful, because even with the small amount of scars she had the peel didn’t really make them less noticeable. Now others might think twice before trying something like this themselves.

As a chemist, the thought of putting pure acetone on your face pains me. It won't horrifically harm your skin but it is an irritant and will really dry your skin out (possibly cause redness and soreness too) and the thought of an irritant on sensitive skin in particular 😖😖😖we use it to clean all sorts of nasty chemicals off equipment/ surfaces in labs and once you see that it can basically obliterate so many nasty chemicals, the thought of pure acetone on your face just makes me cringe
