The Truth About A Chiropractic Y-Strap

My thoughts on the Y-Strap…
You’ve probably seen it all over KZread if you search “chiropractic”. The Y-strap is basically a strap that wraps around people's heads and a diversified chiropractor yanks at the Y-axis distraction, which causes a whole series of joints to pop.
But if your problem is…let’s just say a herniation at the C6 level, something that crude CANNOT give you a specific pressure type of adjustment that actually repositions it in the right place.
We are out for a specificity, not for a bunch of pops everywhere.

Thank you, I agree. I have had chiropractic adjustments since in my teen years. Later, I became a Chiro Asst Therapist and a Radiologist Tech in a Pain &Chiro Clinic. I applied therapies including including ice and heat therapy. Deep Tissue Massage, Interferential and Russian Stim as well as Ultrasound. I cringe when I see this being everywhere and encouraging the "One Yank" Miracle..I would NEVER allow a Chiro to give me this type of adjustmen. Although this seems very satifying to have one long crack down the entire spine, this could turn out very bad. I don't know if these doctors take x-rays before giving adjustments ... but I hope they do. I personally took xrays of three different patients over my career that did not know they had a fractured neck. This could truly be a disaster. 😮 Many loud adjustments give a satisfying crack that you think "Im cured!!" Realistically the next day you may find that your muscles stiffen up and you need more therapy/treatments. I think a Y Strap could end with a disaster such as ligament or blood vessal trauma .

I've been a chiropractic physician for almost 33 years. During that time, I've developed my own technique (as most of us do over the course of so many years) that's a combination of Diversified, Thompson and a few of my own ways of reducing a subluxation. There are quite a few patients I treat that I've been treating since shortly after becoming licensed. I've been using the Y strap technique for less than a year. Regardless of whether the patient I treat is someone I've never treated before or someone I've treated intermittently over the last three decades, they've ALL experienced extremely positive results. Anyone I've ever treated in this manner requests that I do again. Some of the patients who are new to me have been treated by other chiropractic physicians for years if not decades. Every one of those, ones I've treated for decades or those someone else has, has expressed to me afterward that they felt something move that has never moved before and that absolutely needed to move because it gave them the most relief they've ever experienced. Although I can't be certain as there's no evidence, peer reviewed or otherwise, which proves it...I think that when the spine is decompressed in this manner that it occurs so quickly that the soft tissues, especially the nerves and the muscles they supply, don't have time to respond to or limit that decompression. I think that the decompression frees up the areas of concern that are causing the pain, even that caused by a buldged or herniated disk, and that when the decompression is over any tissue being affected by the misalignments that allowed pressure on the nerves or disk immediately reduces and naturally returns to where it should've been and where it belongs. Again, the only evidence I have to support this theory is anecdotal; however, dozens of thrilled and relieved patients grateful for that relief it's and always will be good enough for me ☺️

Keep in mind that patients are usually not educated enough to know what is good for their body and what is not. If it feels good, they want more of it. However, "feels good" doesn't mean it is actually healthy. Fact: Chiropractic is pseudoscience and its founder was an esoteric weirdo who was dissatisfied with the medical system. They spend a lot of time adjusting all the trouble areas and getting everything opened up before they use the strap. Its usually the last thing they do. I don't believe any of them would put their career on the line unless they know it works! We see what they want us to see because it works for so many. This is how they continue to leech off of people just looking for some relief, but the unfortunate reality is that it just is not possible to achieve instantaneous long-term relief for anything musculoskeletal. Without a doubt the most effective way to actually treat things is through repeated, often low effort exercises and stretches done daily over a longer period of time, most effectively under the recommendation of an actual physiotherapist. Additionally, I highly recommend you take a good look into how chiropractics started, it will tell you all you need to know about whether or not this is something worthwhile if actual results are something you are looking for! I hope your pain gets better and I'm truly sorry to hear you had such an awful experience, I promise you are definitely not alone

@@Nightmareman3Yeah, I would really like to SEE how many people who disagree with that assertion are actually doctors because, I as a medical student myself cannot agree more with that assertion, the spine is composed of the 33 vertebras, the disk annulus, the spinal cord and all the ligaments of the spinous apophysis, the transverse process, etc, all of that structure provides solidity and protection to your spinal cord that are just a bunch axons of your brain neurons which gives you the capability to walk, breath, etc. If your spine was able to be adjusted only by cracking it, you could NOT even turn your back without becoming a quadriplegic or die.

how likely is it that one bone in an extremely strong column of connective tissue surrounded by inches of powerful muscle is “out of place”

They dont just use the strap. They relax all the muscles and do all the other pinpoint adjustments, the y strap is just one part in that, not a one and done cure all or anything from what i know

I’m sure a good DC will address the shift before giving y strap It’s more just give relief of pressure on spine overall which gives life to people and firing nerves again that might be compromised
