Exactly. I see a lot of "woke" posts all around that condemns the show and calls it dangerous. I think that those people are being severely condescending towards the show's audience. Hollywood is so over the top, that no one in their right mind would think that it reflects reality in any meaningful way. Claiming that the show is dangerous is not far from claiming that The Sound of Music is dangerous towards our understanding of holocaust survivors. And this is exactly the point. Hollywood is not only trying to mimic the style, clothes, music etc. from that period, but also how stories were told. I think that the key was when they discussed whether to rewrite the ending of Peg/Meg. This was a discussion that pointed back on the show itself. They said they were doing it because they thought it would be more empowering for women in Hollywood. Obviously everyone is painfully aware of reality (and in this context: the real story of Peg), so rewriting history isn't the same as deleting it, it's a tool to inject hope into people and battle cynicism. This was also the function that movies had during that time and during the great depression, where reality was exceptionally bleak.

They spent FAR too long spending a half-ass effort to set up the true stories of Hollywood before switching late in the game to this alternate wish-fulfillment fantasy. Had they set up this alternative reality much sooner, people may have been along for the ride. The point the intended to make was valid but what they made was overstated cinemasterbation.

Camille deserved so much better. While the other main characters (Archie, Jack and Rock Hudson) have MANY insight in their lives, where they are from, their conflicts and motivation (all of the men show their passion, why they wanna be in hollywood, and how long they are willing to go to achive their dreams for MANY times in the show), camille has just a few scenes developing her character. Until more than half of the show they really just don´t show enough of her. They say she is the best actress in the studio but they don´t show that, she only is shown acting 2 times before the casting (the 2 maid scenes). They cast her as the protagonist of the movie but until half the show she is NOT a protagonist in the show. The show portrays her more like an idea ("we want a black woman in a lead role") than a human character that the audience roots to overcome racism in hollywood and achieve the goal of being a successful actress. I really wish they have invested in her character development as much as with the men.

It's a reimagining though, a complete fantasy with realistic rules to see what would happen if these things had happened. Either way, a lot of these people existed and were who they were in the show. So even if they made a realistic show about Rock Hudson or Anna May Wong, he'd still be gay and she'd still be Chinese American.

Pink panda: The perception of Steven Spielberg on THE COLOR PURPLE by Hollywood was that he should be satisfied with the monetary success of his films so that the Oscars could help lesser known films. Judy Garland did give a better more emotionally involved performance but the film cost $5.4 million, double than it should. As a result, it would unlikely break even; it was a small story told on a big budget. In addition, she had no studio behind her and was not too well liked professionally. She and her producer husband should of been better.

The thing about the cast is that at least for me, all of the actors looked vaguely familiar but I couldn’t place any but two (Jim Parsons and Patti LuPone). I think it works really well with the aesthetic of the show all of these characters with familiar Hollywood faces but still only people in the show. (Sorry if that wasn’t explained very well.)

In other videos some people even commented that even tough they never wanted to work in cinematography, were persuaded by the show and were close to become a director. 3. I definitely won’t be surprised if they win all awards this year. Seriously good job.

The actual film role might require the actor to be horizontal most of the scenes so he was being tested. He might be required to raise his emotions quickly to a fever pitch and then slowly deflate. There may also have been a minimalist costume design and so he was being tested. The film might have a specific audience target in mind. Since the executive fit the profile, the encounter was part of the entire audition process. And lastly, acting as a professionactor

I adore Jim Parsons and his role in this movie is insane and he pulls it off like the star he is!!!

Let me be the one to say that Hollywood gives hints of the book Star Power written by the late Scotty Bowers. The underbelly of LGBTQ Hollywood actors being matched with dates from a gas station within the same town. Very little diversity being catapulted during the celluloid era in the golden age of entertainment. Mr. Bower himself told me once that it was rare for him to set up interracial relations, though it was done just as it was. Either way, I love this re-imagination through Ryan Murphy's perspective; it couldn't be more fitting.

Absolutely love this show. I may be 37, but there was something hilarious in hearing Jim Pearson swear.😹

That apology scene between Henry and Rock was extremely powerful. Both stole the show in my opinion.

6:05 Holy crap Jim Parsons looks exactly like Henry Wilson! And even Jake Picking looks really similar to Rock Hudson!

I really like the series. It shows the hidden dark secrets behind the bright spotlights of Hollywood glamour. The casting couch, racism, women equality, and homophobia.
